Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Leaving Igor very bad desicion for I/Z. If I were russian federation, I would also send Bobrova/Soloviev there. Russians -mostly- have good basics but not so good elements, many level problems in season, elements with no GOE bullet. If that is true 2018 will be first year we will see no russian olympic ice dance medals. He probably saved 2014 by working I/K as well, especially for lifts.

I don't like colours of free dance costume, should have been more softer.

According to Skoptcova's ask they are still in Moscow, but if they are really leaving Igor I would accept of the Fed to announce that since they officially switched to Igor back in May.

That's why I was curious before like why they were in Russia while Igor's other teams were competing. I think many here including me consider their move to Igor as a stepping up. So if they do move back to their previous coach team sort of quietly, something might go wrong.

Well, did they leave? Maybe he's still consulting with them, it was never entirely clear how much Kustarova would remain their coach. If he saved 2014 working I/K for a couple months, surely the six months or so I/Z spent with him summer cannot be a waste.

It is not a waste. Look at short dance lift. Easier to level4, smooth exit mean more GOE. Best I have seen from I/Z. He understand how to get high TES. But Kustarova doesn't. She is no help to I/Z.

It's a bit early to predict their decision. Lena's photo on instagram has no clear information that they decided already. We have no official information yet. It might be thanks's photo for keeping memory with dear people. I see Lena's mother on photo, so yes: it's family. I'm very nervous about that. Leaving Igor it's really bad decision. But I hope for the best, and real news will come soon. I really hope that they will stay with Igor.

I have read opinion, that they'll decide after SA results. Maybe we will know in that time.

I also think that it's not real costume ( maybe it's practice costume), and we will see another on the ice.

I'm guessing they have an arrangement like C/L used to have - work with him in the off season, work with Kustarova at other times. It helps to keep costs down, & cuts down on the amount of travelling they have to do - otherwise after SA they will go Novi->Paris->Novi->Saransk->Novi->Hopefully Ostrava... and that's not even accounting for any Challenger events, which I still hope they will do after Paris to keep sharp & improve their ranking. Igor said to people at Nebelhorn that he was still working with them, Elena said at test skates that they were giving the feedback to him and discussing the plans for managing Ruslan's knee problem. It would be very weird to have gone from Novi to test skates and then suddenly decide to stay in Russia - and none of the journalists have picked up on a coach change like they did with S/K, so it seems like this is all planned.

When they moved last year, they said that Kustarova would still be involved with their work. I guess we'll see more at SA when we can see if Igor contributing in the practice sessions or appearing in the K&C. But I don't think it's a disaster if they aren't in Novi full time. They've had 6 months with him, getting the foundation and structure of the programs, and we've seen in the little clips so far what a difference that has made. During the season he & his coaching staff are all over the place travelling to events because he has so many teams, so having a coach during the season that is 100% focused on polishing the work and preparing them for competitions without having other high level teams as a distraction isn't such a bad idea.

Somehow I don't think that they left Igor, maybe they just didn't plan to be with Igor during the season anyway. Who knows? Being at home and saving a little money could be reason enough for them. Does anyone know whether Igor will be with them at SA? He'll be there, so if he is with them in the K&C he's still part of their coaching team.

I love Elena's costume so much. She looks perfect in it. Beautiful. I bet their final costumes even better.I have a good feeling about them this season.I cannot wait until Skate America i miss them so much.
I like Kustorova too but i hope they will be able to be with Igor full time for next seasons.
Good luck this lovely couple on SA.

I think what is upsetting people is that Shpilband isn`t even mentioned in their ISU bio, but he is also not in their choreographers list, although we know that their programs were done mainly by him and Bourzat. One main reason why people were so happy about this coaching change was to have someone with a lot of political power in their corner. If this is just an arrangement for a few months in the summer without him sitting in the KnC, aren`t they basically where they were last season? I wonder about this decision to go back to coaches about whom they said they started to stagnate with, maybe they just didn`t have another choice. I just hope this is going to work out for them and Kustarova didn`t meddle too much with their programs. She tends to construct everything much more difficult as it has to be and we could see the result of that last season.

Anyway, I`m looking forward to their first competition and I`m so happy that I will finally see a fun free dance in this season. :)

RE the political power - that's why so many teams go to Igor just for short periods, because his name and connections gets them a boost, even though they are only with him for a couple of months, or even though they are technically coached by him full time, but really Zuerlein oversees all their training.

But the real impact comes with what they do on the ice, not who is pulling for them behind the scenes - the revised swan lift posted on instagram already looks great, and I'm excited to see what else they have in store for us this week!

What I personally see as the main benefit of IZ's move to Shpilband is that being well-established, he's able to give them (I hope) more sense of security than K/A could. Last year IZ seemed very nervous to me and made costly mistakes; I am hoping Shpilband team's guidance will help IZ considerably in this respect. I so hope they're staying with him!

They have left for the US: https://www.instagram.com/p/BLs1juCBETU/

I hope Ruslan's knee is healed by now, that's the main thing!

I further hope that Shpilband will be with them in K&C, together with KA. I've read lots of admiring comments about KA, and I was amazed with how quickly they'd made a team out of IZ, but unfortunately politicking matters in FS, especially ID. For now, it's good that they worked with Shpilband for half a year and had their programs done with him; Kustarova and Alexeeva must have helped them polish them, so as long as all three are with them at SA, I hope everything will be as fine as it can be. For the future, I hope Shpilband will be their main coach, but they'll continue training with KA as well now and then, especially when Shpilband has to travel a lot to competitions.

And I'm glad the costumes in the picture are not their final FD costumes. I think they could do so much better!

Wishing them all the luck in the world!

Regarding the coaching situation, I think every skater knows better what he or she needs at a specific point, probably better than we do .And political clout is important, but lately I've seen some things at Senior Bs that don't exactly show that there it helped.Political power is shifting so easily in ice dancing. I guess the Grand Prix events will show more in that respect. And in the end, skating matters too.Ice dancing is much more complex than just politicking.

Positive vibes from fans that really care are the best weapon.

Spiral, I love this pic
