Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I am still mad about the scoring. They didn't wow me like in 2015, but they are still so much better than Nikita the big ego Katsalapov and Sinitsina who is just there so Nikita himself can skate.

Sorry, this is insulting but I am just so pissed off! To Kazakhstan, now! :dev2:

Awesome quality! And awesome performance!

Seeing in Protocols how much lower BV for S/K was than for I/Z I do not understand why Fed put them behind S/K.... S/B at least hit their levels, but S/K? Does Fed really think that team will do better at Europeans than I/Z would? Btw. when excatly that costume failure happened? Someone noticed? And I'm all for them to skate for Kazakhstan. Citizenship for 2022 should not be a problem, there is so much time. I will miss them at Europeans, but I'd rather see them at 4CC than not at all.

I don't think that they would switch to another country because it means they need to leave Kustarova too and I think that Lena don't want to do it again.

They could stay with her, she has teams from other countries & Kirill stayed with Zhulin when he switched to Spain.

Yeah, I don`t think they would be forced to switch coaches. I mean Mishin is training Kostner in Russia, so why should IZ leave?

Leaving their current coaching staff is not necessary. I really like how their team polished both their programs. Ruslan just has to continue to grow as a showman while Lena has to manage her form very strictly. She will never be a waif but I thought she looked at her best while working with KA last season. Igors program bulked her up too much, IMHO. I really liked the improvements I've seen in both of them at Nationals. Igor and company can consult via skype if they like , but I think they should just stay put and work.

The weight thing is so ridiculous that it makes me LOL. I mean look what they said about Tessa as well. Eat that haters. Not bad for a "fat" girl.

This was wonderful! They keep finding new nuances in their music, making each successive performance even more thrilling than the last. And to skate like this in the situation they are in - I have no words enough to express my admiration for their spirits. If they do the gala, they should skate to "Smile, while your heart is breaking."

I didn't see anything falling from either costume, but if the Russian judges hadn't invented that, they would have given them less PCS and GOEs. 3rd in FD, 4th overall is exactly what I expected.

I just hope they won't do any more competitions this season, so that they could start skating for another country as soon as possible. Reg. skating for a less powerful federation, Denis Ten medaled at two Worlds, skating for Kazakhstan. Of course, ID is less objective than the other disciplines, but skating for a less powerful federation that supports one is still a million times better than skating for a more powerful one that doesn't. Reg. Russia not letting them go, of course, it wouldn't want to, but, according to what Uhh posted a little while back, it may not have a choice. Reg. coach change, other skaters have trained in Moscow, while skating for other countries, so it's quite likely IZ won't have to leave AK, but in the worst case scenario, I think it's better to change coaches than to see one's entire career derailed by a corrupt federation.

And back to positive emotions.

She had a glittering bracelet on at the beginning of the program and its not there at the end.

But the performances were stellar.

Like Alba said, not bad for the "fat" Russian girl. ;) Keep on keeping on!!

And yes, Spiral, time to ignore all trolls. Why do they all end up in here though? Makes you wonder?

I'm curious, do you think it really is possible that they'll leave Russia? I mean, we on this board can talk about it all we like, but how likely is it that they'd go through with it, or even consider it? But I agree with you, Spiral, that it would be infinitely better to skate for a fed that actually tries to support them, rather than one that has dropped them. After 2018, the ice dance field is probably going to thin considerably on an international level, and if I/Z were in Kazakhstan, for instance, they could compete at 4CC instead of Euros, where the field is less crowded and less political.

4CC is just as crowded with the Americans and Canadians. You just have to develop or call it a day.

It doesn`t look like it right now, but Canadian Ice Dance pretty much imploded this season. From the teams that skated at last year`s Canadian Nats, W/P and G/P are the only ones still skating together. It`s very possible that after 2018 Canada will have issues to qualify three spots at Worlds.

Right now yes, but I thnk V/M & W/P will retire after 2018 Worlds, so from Canadian only G/P will be left. All the other Canadians teams are brand new and not that good, now that P/I, P/O and O/H had retired. So it really be only crowded with American teams, nothing more. I/Z could have their chances.

Oh, I definitely agree they need to continue developing! And maybe don't wear so much jewelry on the ice? But the likelihood is high that Virtue/Moir, Weaver/Poje, and maybe Chock/Bates will step away after the Olympics, and Canada at least doesn't have much second-tier depth at the moment, meaning there would be a vacuum for teams from other countries to slip in.

Thoughts on what else I/Z can be doing? I've heard some say that they need to work on their training habits, but that seems to also often be mentioned in conjunction with Lena's weight, so I'm not sure how to take that.

I don`t take these kind of rumors seriously, tbh. Shpilband doesn`t look like someone who would allow such a behavior and Kustarova mentioned after Elena and Ruslan teamed up that she is very hard-working. I think, Ruslan was always someone who had a strict work ethic and he apparently worked very hard in Novi, that`s at least what people, who have connections, kept posting here and on FSU.

Honestly, did any of you found out any part of their costumes that fell on ice? I'm desperately trying and still failing.

I heard someone say Elena lost a bracelet or arm cuff of some sort? I haven't been able to see it but apparently the judges did.
