Elena Radionova

Elena will not be at the EX GALA  but maybe she will be on 18.Team Russia Perfomance...

Thank god that Radionova will be in the team EX. I hope she dominates E. Armanovna Medvesian and slaps Kovtun upside the head a few times.

Seriously, Radionova is a star. Wagner earned less points that Rad and gets invited instead? Do these people know who makes the money? Do they have brains? :hslap:

Don't cry razor3k. Zayebali ridat', seryozno...

Can't help but be pleased with Lena this week; she came to the event and did her job, effectively putting herself back in the Olympic conversation after Worlds.

It was always going to be tough to compete with the Japanese women, who were both getting the Worlds bump while skating at what is essentially a home exo event, and yet Lena performed two solid efforts that, while weren't perfect, do well to remind viewers of her ability to grit through and improvise. That short program combo was money and she's one of the few skaters who can consistently pull that off in such a high-pressure event.

When it comes to Medvedeva, Lena has to be consistent; Zhenya's hardly gotten a syllable wrong all season and that's contributed to these astronomical scores. Our girl's gonna have to be nails to start next season, otherwise the gap is going to get crazy big all over again and it'll suddenly be a battle for second/third place at Nationals.

The short program is one of my favorites from her this season, and I hope she brings a similar energy to the free, much as she likes more lyrical options. I'd be fine with splitting the difference a la 2013-2014, and doing something more lyrical for the short so long as she's able to bring the fire in the free.

All in all, given the last few events, I sense she's back in the hunt - beating Ashley was important and finishing second in the short was also huge.

Congrats to Lena and Team Russia for getting second place! :hap57:

I'm sad that Lena didn't get invited to perform in the gala, but I'm glad she'll get to perform with Team Russia. I feel like that will be SUPER ENTERTAINING!! :dance3:

In my heart of hearts, I was hoping that Lena would be able to pull out a perfect long program and score 145+, but based on her performance in the short (with a little problem on the 3Lz), the free program probably went about as good as expected. I knew it would be VERY hard to beat Mihara/Wakaba at home if they went clean, and also Daleman too (because she's a reigning World medalist). If Lena had at least managed to skate without underrotations (but sloppy landings), I would have counted it as a victory over Anna and Masha. As it is, she did score more here than they did at Worlds, so at the very least, she did her job. She didn't fall, and she didn't fall apart! :agree:

However, it is clear that she's still not quite where she needs to be to be a consistent medal contender. As we saw in the short, her grit and her charisma can get her to the podium if others falter, but if the others do well, she's not a medal favorite.

Here are some of my thoughts...

1) JUMPS - I know she had some jump issues in the second half of the LP, and some of this might be stamina-related. Overall, however, I thought her jumps looked MUCH better than in the first half of the season. The 3Lz+3T was a beauty, as was the 3Lo+1Lo+3S. She also got nice height on her 3F. Her axel continues to give her problems though. For the other jumps, I think her technique is fine, but it might be worth getting a jump specialist to work with her on that one, because she has to do it at least 3 times at a competition.

I think perhaps they should consider going back to the jump layout Lena had in 2015-16, with 3 jumping passes in the first half. I know they wanted to do 5 in the second half to take advantage of the bonus, but the quality of the rest of her jumps seem to be suffering as a result.

2) SPINS - Lena lost levels on two spins in the short and one in the long. There's no excuse for this; those are easy points she's leaving on the table. That being said, her layback spin and Biellmann looked really gorgeous at this competition.

3) SPEED - In the first few seasons when Lena was on the senior GP circuit, her speed was really impressive. She just seemed to fly across the ice with freedom. I think she still needs to work on this more. I feel like she seems especially slow in the short program because she tends to match her speed to the tempo of the music, and the first part of her SP is pretty slow.

4) LENA NEEDS FUN PROGRAMS - I think the ONLY way that Lena will have ANY chance of making the Olympic team next year is if she has some kick-@ss programs that everyone wants to see again and again. I know that the LP in the Olympic year is supposed to be something grand and majestic, but really, I think the best programs for Lena would be ones that showcase her personality, so they should be upbeat, fun, and sassy. Lena, you are a pop princess, just embrace it!! Her SP this year was a step in the right direction--at least the step sequence part--but the first half of it is kinda slow, and the music is kind of screechy.

I'm hoping that Lena works with Shae-Lynn Bourne again, and I'm kinda hoping that SHE picks the music. I love Inna Goncharenko, but she suggested Titanic and Turandot, and neither of those programs turned out that well, in my opinion.

Maybe something like what she did for TAT's gala (Chopin waltz) for the SP, and something super fun like her 2013-14 LP for the long...? Or maybe an upbeat Broadway or jazz number for the short, and a Latin dance-y piece for the long?

5) SMILE  Well, no matter how Lena did, what a treat it was to see her smiling so much and having a blast with her teammates! I still  when I think of Lena pretending to be Katya Bobrova in the K&C.

And man, she just looked GORGEOUS with the Russian headdress, like here:

My other post was getting pretty long, so I decided to put this in a new post.

Apparently some of the skaters wrote messages to Mao...? I only saw this on Twitter so I'm not sure where the messages where displayed.
But here's a picture of Lena's message for Mao:
https://twitter.com/eikapervaya/status/855804191976980480

It says "Dear Mao, I'm a big fan of yours! It is unfortunate that you have finished your career, but you will always remain in our hearts!"
Aww, so sweet!! :luv17:

Lena posted a pic of her with Yuzu on IG

I told you she would!!

She looks gorgeous, she is always the best dressed amongst the Russian ladies. And I love her assymetric dress too.

Yes, she's a supermodel, what can I say?
She actually wore this dress to the wedding she went to last summer:

The "La la land" EX was cute, but still didn't have enough Lena in it for me! ;)

She totally has the best dance moves though: :agree:

And her loooong hair is to die for....so jealous! :drama:

She always looks so comfortable (and not awkward at all) when she's dancing to pop music. I said it before, and I'll say it again--Lena, please skate to pop music!!

Lena shared in her IG history these photos of the gifts and drawings of her fans! In case you did not see them![emoji2]

Averbukh about performance of Elena.
"Quite unsuccessful, its season is hard to name. She still won the Universiade. Indeed, when you do not get into the national team after the Russian championship, the motivation to continue the work disappears. It's good that she was allowed to go to Almaty and there Lena won, let and not without mistakes. When it was decided that she was definitely not going to the WC, then, as I understand it, there was a final reset of the form, because it is difficult to prepare only for the team tournament in Tokyo. Radionova's hand was played by the fact that Anna Pogorilaya was unsuccessful, which no one could have guessed. Elena came on as a substitute, and for a short program her stock was enough, but there was not any spare. She is a very gifted figure skater, even a pity that she repeats the fate of Alexander Abt, who brilliantly skated, but performed at one time with Evgeni Plushenko and Alexei Yagudin. I want to support all the girls so that they continue to perform at a high level. A year later, the fight for a place in the national team will only increase, because Alina Zagitova, who has already won silver at the Russian championship and who bypassed Medvedev's technique, will be added."

*Rem: 1."she was allowed to go to Almaty" ??? - she actually qualified for this tournament (5th place RN) 2. "then, as I understand it, there was a final reset of the form" ??? - Elena has demonstrated SB in SP, FS, Total on WTT. 3. "even a pity that she repeats the fate of Alexander Abt" - no words...

I knew that I have seen this dress somewhere before. She looks so pretty, and the dress is fab. She's also grown so much in the past two-three years.

Ah, I totally forgot that she competed at Winter Universiade :slink: Then she competed twice in 4 months, and not just once. It's still a good thing that she stayed in form and could skate two great programs at WTT.

I don't think Averbukh's comments are that out of line. Even Lena said she thought this season wasn't very good.

But the important thing is that she's not giving up, as she says in the interview below!

Elena interview about WTT-17, about last season and next OWG season.
http://www.fsrussia.ru/intervyu/296...byli-kreativnymi-splochennymi-i-veselymi.html

Thanks for posting! Lena is so cuuute with the Russia cap.

I particularly loved these parts of the interview [GoogleTranslate]:
Q: How difficult it was to deal, as you said, with the circumstances, to overcome them?
A: Complicated. Lately I have grown. However, a little bit. But any change affects the technique of performing elements, and for this reason it is necessary to get used to. When you go out on the ice, you feel different. Yesterday they were alone, others today. To this must be adapted to control his body. But most importantly - it is necessary to believe in yourself. To not give up. It's in my nature. I believe that everyone faces difficulties. This is normal. One who has a strong character, is able to overcome everything. She who does not have a strong attitude, will not be champion. Yes, everyone has injuries, everyone grows, changes, adapts, trains. And she who can overcome all this, is still on top. By no means have I folded my arms; I am not desperate. We must only move forward!

You can really see Lena's fighting spirit here. :yes2: Only forward Lena!!! :hap10:

And this was sweet. I know Lena has mentioned before how much her mom supports her. Here she says it again:

Q: Who is supporting you in difficult times?
A: Mama. For me she is the most important person. And Dad, of course, also supports me. My mother and I are very close. She knows everything about me. I share everything with her. Mom is aware of what is happening in my life. At the right moment, it will always support me, in which case, give a kick.
:luv17:

I think she means "encouragement" when she says "kick"...

Lena also had some nice things to say about Mao. She talked about wanting to go on vacation by the sea, and she said she's learning to coach now, but that she might pursue another career like acting.

Thanks to Tatjana Flade for the nice interview! :agree:

ETA Oooh pretty!

just wanted to say, I kinda hope Lena will rehash or re-use her SP in the future. It;s such a fun, flirtatious piece that she obviously enjoyed - and showcases the best of her charisma and effervescent personality.
(plus, I really love the dress XD)

She did really enjoy that SP! Personally, I hope that she works with Shae-Lynn Bourne again and that they come up with something even better!! :agree:

So I don't know what to think about this... :scratch2:
On FSU, there is a RUMOR that Lena will be switching coaches, but no indication of who the new coach would be:
https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/in...er-to-spring-2017.100605/page-26#post-5064237

I'd be really surprised if this is true, because Lena's recent interview didn't make it seem like some big change was imminent...

I do feel like Buyanova would be really motivated to try to steal Lena away, now that Adelina has left her for Plushenko.
But I also feel like Lena would only leave Inna Goncharenko if the new coach/Fed would guarantee her a spot on the Olympic team (and in that case, I feel like even Inna herself would encourage her to leave)--but that seems kinda impossible. Even if Buyanova offered Lena a chance to work with any choreographers she wanted to, and lots of funding, and premium ice time, I'm not sure that would be enough to convince her to switch...

And if it's not Buyanova, I have no idea who it could be...unless it's going to be something like TAT becomes her "official" coach (while Goncharenko does all of the actual training).

So, hmmmm, we shall see.... Of course, this could all turn out to be false!!
