Elena Radionova

Still a very emotional girl after all

Awww...poor baby! Who are those men who are with her? I'm surprised Inna is not there...

This gives me even more respect for her! She is such a fierce woman in the body of a girl. I don't agree with "She is still a child, that's the reason". A little child would have been visibly upset in front of the cameras and maybe even cried right on the spot, making a 'scene'.
She on the other hand was able to control herself and with that, in my opinion, also showed a great deal of respect for Liza and acknowledging her moment.
We've seen adults behave like little children during these Euros, and we've seen a girl who is wise way beyond her years

I totally agree! :agree: Mao Asada cried in the bathroom for a long time after she lost to Miki Ando by 0.64 points at 2007 Worlds; it's only natural to feel sad when you were so close to winning. Kudos to Lena for putting on a brave face for the camera and then quickly regaining her composure and smiling sincerely at the medal ceremony!! Even though she looks like such a baby--like in that latest Sergey Bermeniev photo--she really IS wise and mature beyond her years!!

 Though poor Lena! It looks like she totally didn't notice what Kovtun was doing at all until he basically shoved the camera/phone in her face! LOL! Glad to see they had fun at the hockey game though. They had awesome seats!

Thanks CutieP! This is interesting though...in the US, usually left-handed skaters jump clockwise, I feel like. I wonder if Lena was just made to jump counter-clockwise, or if that is actually more comfortable for her...

New interview this morning at Gazeta.ru: http://www.gazeta.ru/sport/2015/02/02/a_6398061.shtml

In it she says, for instance, that she has very little free time at the moment, because she has so much schoolwork (9th grade exams coming up); she's admiring Audrey Hepburn again (and Kim, Kostner, Asada) and her FS is about peace and growing up.

The interviewer also asks about the other girls in the Russian team (seperately): Adelina is closest to her, Anna least close. Liza is very funny and Julia's humor and general way of communication is "peculiar". And she is not as "closed" when you get to know her. But all the girls are nice and she gets along with everybody.

And this bit I want to put here in it's entirety (through Google Translate):
- I admire the way you are able to work with the public: Always smile when you need to, be sure to react to the camera, etc. You anyone ever taught this?
- No-oo! All by herself. But I do it from the heart, because I want to. I love when the audience supports me, and the people are very grateful for that.

There you have it!;) The bad translation says it. All natural and from the heart

AWESOME interview, thanks! I thought it was hilarious that she said that she thought Yulia was like a hedgehog at first (very prickly, I guess), but now clearly they get along really well.

This!!! I love this shinning girl. She's like a little sun!

Little Miss Sunshine indeed!

I think those are Kogan and Gorshkov, the president and the director of the Federation.

Oh wow, VERY interesting! If Lena was crying in front of them, she must be pretty close to them, because I can't imagine her crying in front of people she doesn't know very well/people she isn't comfortable around. And if that's the case, then GREAT! She definitely needs the Federation's support (and funding!!) to continue to succeed! :)

Okay, here are a few things I found:

1) More photos of Lena & Maxim at the airport (and Liza in St. Petersburg too):

2) A Swedish fan got a pic with Lena...(don't get too jealous, CutieP!)

...and posted a short fan vid from her free skate:

3) This is a few years old, but I just LOOVE my Lena & Lena!

4) Were any of you wondering who the lady sitting with Elena & Inna in the K&C after the SP is? I finally figured it out! It's Lyudmila Vlasova, who's a former Bolshoi ballerina who now choreographs.

I guess she is helping Lena & Inna now? If so, then GREAT! I said earlier that I thought more ballet training would help Lena fix her posture and arms, so if she is working with a ballet/dance specialist, then I bet those things will improve! :agree:

5) Just found this--Lena & Yulia from...2013 Jr Worlds? I think?

Anyone has more details about her back? Was she injured at Europe? Has her back gotten better?

I haven't heard anything new in these post Euro interviews, so I'm thinking her back was just sour for a bit before the competition, but it was perfectly fine in the competition itself. So, I'm assuming that everything is perfectly ok in that regard.:)

Oh my god, an entire hour of Lena. I'm not ready for this  I've seen a few minutes so far, nothing groundbreaking, but Lena seems so mature, relaxed and happy. You would never guess this girl works so hard every day, she seems so carefree. I guess that's what Lena is all about, she just loves skating, it's just fun for her.

It surprised me why it is called "Soviet Sport" (SovSport), but not "Russian Sport". Didn't the history happen there?
That newspaper is like 100 years old, they're not gonna change their name just because a country collapsed

And it seems he Russians are not at odds with their history..

Does "Sov" stand for Sovjet at all? I know very little russian, but there is the word "sovsem", which vaguely translates to "just", "any", "altogether" etc. So it could also be read as short for "all sports" or "just sport". Maybe a native speaker can clear this up?
