Elena Radionova

Does "Sov" stand for Sovjet at all? I know very little russian, but there is the word "sovsem", which vaguely translates to "just", "any", "altogether" etc. So it could also be read as short for "all sports" or "just sport". Maybe a native speaker can clear this up?
Soviet Sport. And not the other way.

In this case it does. The newspaper is literally called Soviet Sport.

It surprised me why it is called "Soviet Sport" (SovSport), but not "Russian Sport". Didn't the history happen there?

That newspaper is like 100 years old, they're not gonna change their name just because a country collapsed

And it seems he Russians are not at odds with their history..

I see, thanks! :)

addendum: In the website about-us section they call themselves "Советский спорт" - Sovjetski sport.

Except when the Soviet Union collapsed, a lot of town names and street names and city (!) names were changed! And yet, this newspaper remains the same. :P

Now when is this Sovsport history crap going to end!:sarcasm:

There's so much more interesting things going on and the whole page 42 looks so ruined now.

Where are the mods.... and where is Batsuchan. Even my monologue is better than this off-topic nonsense:disapp:

edit: when I look at it, the page 42 is actually quite hilarious. Me talking about Elena......alone.....in the dark:biggrin:

 we might as well continue until we get to page 43 and then we can forget about 42!

Alright, I've watched the whole thing. The biggest shocker was when Lena said she wanted to go to GITIS, the biggest film/theatre university in Russia, she wants to be an actress. I hope that doesn't happen any time soon, because I don't see how you can study at GITIS and skate at the same time  Even Machida waited quite a while before commiting to studies!
Also, she says she's perfectly happy with her childhood, since she's meeting a lot of people and seeing a lot of places. So she doesn't feel like she's missing out.
And she says she eats whatever she wants. She doesn't have a diet and doesn't really think about her weight. But when asked how much she weights right now, she replied "I'm not telling" :laugh2:
Also, in the Anna Karenina program apparently she's supposed to be a piece of paper (or maybe a leaf, it's the same word in Russian, hard to say what she meant) flying in the wind. That blew my mind.
And she says she likes old movies, Soviet ones especially.

Ah! I am so not surprised that she wants to become an actress, considering how Audrey Hepburn is her hero! Of course, I am not sure how well she can act, but she certainly has the demeanour of a star. :) And with her determination, I am sure she can succeed at anything.

Everything else: aw, she really answers the questions like a star from the Golden Age of Hollywood.

I'm sorry!! I was at work and all the fun sites are blocked!
You're totally right, though, CutieP! The pics are to die for and it's like my birthday and Christmas in one!

That photo with TAT (Tarasova) with her hair sticking up was just

I haven't had a chance to watch the video yet, but I will!

Thanks to gallavich and AlexRus for the links, and BIGGGG THANKS to Noolan for summarizing!!

I'm not really surprised that Lena wants to go to a film/theatre university--she did say she maybe wanted to be an actress or singer when she grows up. Hopefully that will be many years away though, so that we can enjoy her wonderful skating for a looong time!

I'm not sure how good of an actress Lena would be either--she seems to be so charming just as herself. I can more easily see her as a TV show host or something. Also, I feel like she really enjoys feeling the energy of a live crowd, so I'm not sure she'd enjoy doing films as much. Who knows, though? I'm definitely sure that Lena is destined for show biz at some point! :agree:

wow she will be a star! I know it. FS is too lucky to have her. I hope after she retires she will become an actress and make movies about FS. :cheer:

Thanks for the translation. I think Lena has the starpower to be successful in acting, if that's what she wants. Plus, if she makes it, this could only help figure skating's popularity. :)

Hopefully it won't be anytime soon, since she still has quite the figure skating career to look forward to.

Thanks, Noolan!:cheer2: Well, I'm not that shocked at all, Lena is meant to perform, and I'm sure she can also be a dramatic actress in the future. Although, for Lena, I'm afraid the "age of Audrey Hepburn's" is gone. I'm not completely sure about Russia, but in the west people, the crowd, the average movie goers are only looking for "fast satisfaction". It's a culture of pornography, fast food and special effects. They are not too fond of creating a platonic relationship towards an elegant actress. And this, I think, is what Lena is looking for. Maybe she could end up doing theatre, but those crowds will always be small.

I knew she could eat whatever she wants! She will stay tiny. And more than anything I can relate to her not telling her weight (I also, always, refuse to tell). We have somewhat different reasons though. That freakishly small number would expose me to mockery in a masculine culture. That freakishly small number would expose her to all sorts of silly rumours of an eating disorder, which is not really there (and some mockery).

Thanks for the info regarding the Anna Karenina program:thumbsup:. I'm guessing it's a leaf flying in a wind:)

Aww... You mean this! http://www.sovsport.ru/s/preview/mf1024/351914.jpg?t=142304539357363090 Took me a while to actually notice the background in these pics when the foreground is so very interesting indeed.

Elena chose this for her Instagram and vk accounts (a good choice:)): http://www.sovsport.ru/s/preview/mf1024/351916.jpg?t=142304539190323539

This is quite fun: Elena in Wonderland: http://instagram.com/p/xuAaHXrI80 Interesting detail on the right hand side of the page is that Elena herself is actually commenting this.
