I bet Pogo wants this season to be over now, and Yulia certainly does and already has been happily on a vacation for a while (good for her!). She is not making a comeback this season!. Adelina has other arrangements as well. And I doubt Russia wants to send Leonova and Artemieva, they're just not good enough!

So really, I don't think Russia has many options to be honest. I think they'll ask Liza and Lena, and knowing that this is in Japan, Lena will not say no. :agree:
 
;) bronze at first World Championship usually means good. Many men with bronze in their first WC latter became Olympic Champion.
I don't want to jinx anyone but usually silver at first World Championship doesn't bring luck.
I think Bronze is a bless in disguise for miss Sunny.

Yeah sorry but this competition is not that big of a deal, big money yes, but seriously. If they want to go, they'll go. If they are too tired then they should be allowed to rest. After this season, they've earn it. It wouldn't be the first time Liza said thanks but no thanks I'm tired (ex: Junior Worlds). I doubt they make anyone go who doesn't want too. Anyway......

Great job Elena, way to be a fighter :cheer:

I remember Yagudin, it was the 1st worlds I ever saw. He gave Mishin the biggest bear hug. Remember Plushenko too!!! I feel so old :biggrin:
 
SO proud of our fierce princess :love: !! I could tell she was sick and fatigued near the end of the program...I did not get a sense of tightness or nerves at all. I think all her mistakes were due to being sick and just terribly under the weather. So to fight through all that and get bronze, is such a huge accomplishment. And it leaves room for her to improve, so it's really the perfect position to be in. I hope she gets better soon!!
 
Kind of a disappointing bronze. Good season for Elena. She's only 16 let's see what she will do next season. The competition will only get tougher just from her own country next season when Yulia and Adelina return and the young Russians coming up seeking glory.

I totally agree with you, Seruleane! I think this is a really great result for Lena. I had said way back that I was torn whether I wanted Lena to win Worlds this year (because Lena winning is always good) or not (because it would force her to work on her many weaknesses). Now I am glad she has this experience because
1) she's learned that she can hold it together even when she's really sick
2) all the pressure will be on Liza to deliver, which means that Lena can focus on improving (or potentially struggling with puberty next season) without the pressure of having to defend her title. :agree:

According to Inna, Lena said that she almost lost consciousness (fainted) during her long program. :eek:

I actually was worried about this happening! The last time I had the flu, I fainted, and I was just standing! I can't imagine what would happen if I would have to skate!! :drama:

So perhaps it was selfish for me to hope that Lena AND Liza go to WTT together. Liza certainly deserves a long rest, and it might be asking too much of her to go into this competition with the pressure of being reigning world champion. And besides, Lena can be uber adorable all by herself!! :biggrin:

ETA Ooops, just realized Liza already said she's going to WTT. I hope Lena goes too then!!

Congrats to Elena for her first world medal :cheer: It's a pity she got sick at the competition but she is a true fighter :points:
 
I wonder if Lena will be picked for any big offseason shows in Japan. So far she's not listed anywhere as far as I can see. Seeing how Averbukh made her SP, she may go with his shows instead... :hopelessness:

Yes, I was wondering why she didn't have her usual spark in the SP until learning she was running a fever and competed through her illness. The illness clearly affected her LP but our fierce princess fought hard. I think the biggest guts moment was after the first 3Lz went wonky and became a single triple. Lena eked out the 3Lz-3T on the third pass just based on sheer willpower. Unfortunately, the illness really hit her and she wasn't able to convey her usual big personality, exuberant performance and her PCS got lowered. Lena is not yet the artist but she depends on her big personality to perform and earn her pcs. So sad she couldn't match her usual spark but she earned my respect for fighting hard through her sickness. Big salute. If only the US ladies have some of her competitiveness and fighting spirit, they would go much farther.

- "I thought that all was lost. I rode the bus to the competition, and I was so uncomfortable, really bad. The thought creeps in, how can I skate? Different thoughts flashed - good and bad. But I tried to think only of good. And I'm very glad that I skated well the short program and it helped.
And why would I panic in such a situation? It already happened, there's no way to change it. What can one do? Just has to get out of that situation and try a final effort. My mother, my coaches believe in me. Their support is very helpful to me always. I thank them very much for supporting."

Honestly, it was better than what I expected also. "My goal" for her before the season was to make it to the GP Final and to the Euros/Worlds teams. Some medals will probably follow.

This was also the key moment that saved her the medal :cheer:

I was so worried about her fitness levels for FS when I was thinking about it on friday. If her illness started just before the SP, and it usually lasts a couple of days, then the FS is going to take place at (probably) the worst possible time. When she's been ill a couple of days and severely lacking in fitness.
When she missed that first opportunity for the combo, I was worried this would turn in to a nightmare:hopelessness:, but when she nailed it on that second Lutz, I was very confident she will end up with a medal. The hardest part was done by then, and even when she was evidently very tired for the easier, latter part, the medal was already "in the bag", I thought. And it was:dance:

I was worried she would be feeling too ill/weak to turn the second 3Lz into a combo, but for a healthy Lena, this is totally normal! At Skate America 2013, she fell on the opening 3Lz in her FS, so she tacked the 3T onto the second 3Lz (which actually was in the second half of the program!). And at NHK Trophy 2013, she landed the opening 3Lz badly, so she turned her solo 3Lo into a 3Lo+3T! :eek: What can I say? Our girl is gutsy and clever! :agree: And her programs are set up quite smartly--she always has a second chance to pull off a triple-triple.

Thanks for the links, CutieP! I'm glad to see Inna comforting Lena, because in the video footage, I didn't see them hugging at all (though Elena Maslennikova definitely hugged Lena after the SP).
