OMG, it's so unfair...she has such beautiful arched feet! :eek: I bet a ton of ballerinas (and me too) WISH they had feet like Lena's!! Actually, with her long arms and legs, she would've made a great ballerina. Oh well, the ballet world's loss is the skating world's gain! :agree:

Sigh, if Elena were an American skater, she totally would have a cosmetic commercial and a hair commercial and probably a clothing sponsor too. But in Russia, she's not close to being the most famous or most successful skater so it probably won't happen, even if she's most model-like. :sad21:

Of course, once she wins the Olympics, that may all change! :biggrin:

It's funny; coming from tennis, it's not nearly so America-centric in terms of the marketing. When you go to the US Open, the Nike store, for example, features Serena Williams, of course, but also Maria Sharapova (RUS), Roger Federer (SUI) and Rafael Nadal (ESP) just as prominently. Maybe it's because figure skating is seen more as an Olympic sport, which makes rooting interest much more nationalistic, but that attitude disallows you from engaging with tons of skaters from around the world.

The Russian girls in particular are such big personalities, I feel like the public (American or otherwise) could get invested in them were they given a substantial platform. Of course, it'd probably require they use English more than they might be used to, but I imagine they have a good amount of experience with it from touring and English media.

Ah, I guess I meant something slightly different! I meant that if Russian companies wanted to pick a skater to advertise their product, then they would pick Adelina or Yulia because they are much more popular in Russia and well-known than Lena...Similarly, Japanese companies would probably pick Yuzu or Mao to advertise, rather than Satoko or Rika...

However, if Lena were American, she'd be the most competitive skater in the US by far (and she's super marketable), so I bet she would get a ton of advertisements. :yes:

But I think if Lena did win the Olympics, she could become an athlete with a global presence. :agree:

Yeah, I guess it's good that Lena doesn't have much pressure from the public because she's not that well-known.
But, I do think she's born to be a star! I think she would LOVE to be in the limelight, and it wouldn't intimidate her! :yes:

Well, first I have some more upsetting news to report...this one is not a rumor.

So, Moscomsport awarded diplomas (awards) to Moscow's best coaches and skaters in figure skating, speed skating, and weightlifting, but somehow they forgot to send invitations to Lena and Inna Goncharenko, or somehow Lena and Inna didn't receive invitations to attend the ceremony on December 17. :unsure:
