Elena Radionova

Tattoo? When she did it? :reye:
Is that why she wearing gloves?

It's a temporary tattoo that she got done at the closing banquet for Worlds. Other skaters had them too. Lena probably wears the gloves to protect her hands when she grabs her skates during spins.

A few years ago I saw in Inna and Elena's relationship more understanding and some dedication. Previously, Elena was lovely and obedient girl. Now, I've heard in some Russian documentary that her coach is forced to make concessions for her. We've all seen before, Lena obediently listened to her coach, who set up her on a great skate. And all turned out. Now, especially at the World Cup, I've seen some irritation on the face of Lena after talking with Inna. Something going wrong. Everything goes to the fact that Lena will change the coach. And for me more sorry Inna than Lena. This woman is so much invested in this girl - and here's the result.
Well we all become rebellious towards our parents during this age, and Inna is like a mother-figure to Lena

Well, nothing new to report, really...

Here's a backstage photo of Lena getting interviewed (she's wearing my jacket!!):

LOL at her expression!
For better or for worse, Lena's face is extremely expressive. That's great when she's trying to emote to the audience...and not so great when she's trying to hide her disappointment/frustration...

Here are a set of cool (photoshopped) photos that show how much Lena has grown (relative to Mao):

I don't know... I find it quite endearing actually - there isn't a fake bone in her body. It also means that when she is happy & friendly, we know it is genuine and not just "put on" for show.

I didn't know Maria is just 16... I thought she's the same age as Lena....

Yes, it surprised me too! I knew she was younger, but I didn't realize she was that much younger.

I know a lot of skaters have started out with Jackson boots (including me), and sometimes they continue to buy Jackson boots when they advance and need newer skates as it's easier to break into boots made by the same company as your previous ones. Although that is quite interesting, as I would think lightweight people like Lena would switch to a lighter-boot company after the first pair, especially as a young kid when muscles aren't completely developed.

So here's an idea. Elena should skate to Masquerade Waltz by Aram Hachaturyan next season. Long program!

Now, this isn't the best singles music because it is very epic and can overwhelm a singles skater who spends a lot of time focusing on the jumping passes. Asada is a good example of that:

Masquarade is probably best for ice dance; Domnina/Shabalin's WC winning FD was the best program using this piece (EC link):

I thing Lena can do it. I don't think she will be overwhelmed by the music given her insane energy. Plus it's a great classical peice which is not as difficult for her as Rahmaninov and is a great getaway from trash like Titanic and the Jlo SP type of stuff which won't work for her anymore.

This idea might be a strech... what dou you guys think?

I loooove "Masquerade Waltz"; it's one of my favorite pieces, but I'm not sure it's such a great choice for Lena at this stage of her career.

I think you are right that it's best for a couple rather than a single skater--other than Domnina/Shabalin's FD, I also really love Volosozhar/Trankov's Olympic SP. For a singles skater, I think it's hard to match the unrelenting waltz rhythm when you have to set up for a jump.

But while I think the intensity/passion is a good match for Lena, I think it's too dark and heavy for her. It's also very repetitive.

If Lena were to do a more "dark" program, I'd prefer her to do "Danse Macabre." (Though of course all the Yuna-ubers would have a riot.)

If there's a Mao program I'd love to see Lena redo, it's this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMtJ_0yTKtc
It has a strong sense of momentum, so I could see Lena really speeding across the ice to it, and it's beautiful and passionate. But I feel like Lena might need to be a little more polished to do it justice.

After watching Worlds, I really want to see Lena in upbeat program where she can use her charisma. That's why I suggested a Latin program and a Broadway/jazz program. I want to see her SMILE and be sassy or sunny. I think that is of the things that sets her apart--her charisma and her consistency, so she needs to use that charm! :agree:
