Elena Radionova

I'm glad other people enjoyed Elena's program more than I did!! Hopefully she still has her jumps and today was just an off way, and when I see the program in its final polished form, I'll like it more. I did like Gracie's Gershwin program which is what people keep comparing it to. I wish her the best of luck for tomorrow's FS. She definitely has her work cut out for her this season, and I think she has what it takes to be on top, it's just a question of how much she is willing to work for it.

I totally agree with you Seruleane!

I'm afraid I got my expectations up too high after Inna Goncharenko was raving about how much they liked Lena's new SP and how all the hockey boys would applaud loudly when she finished. I'm now thinking they came to see pretty Lena and not her program... :(

At least she does have an opportunity to use her charisma in this program. Maybe it will look better if she can actually land the jumps cleanly and has a snazzy costume to match....?

You know I love Lena, but looking at her performance today, I wonder what she actually worked on over the summer. Obviously her jumps looked worse, but she also wasn't even trying to fight for the landings. Her posture is still bad and her arm movements still look flaily and unfinished to me... I did not feel like the choreography covered that at all! In comparison, at the beginning of last season I could definitely see Anna Pogorilaya's improvements in becoming more graceful and trying to emote more; I can't say I see ANY improvements from Lena.

Perhaps I'll feel differently after we see the LP, but looking at what Lena did today, I feel like she has A LOT OF WORK TO DO!

At least we got some pretty pics of Lena with fans!

Lena is not doing her LP today, health reasons. Hopefully that's what was wrong with those jumps. I would find it difficult to believe she worked on nothing this past summer and improved very little. She at least fights and yesterday looked like she was not really fighting.

she looked not well in her pics from fans and frankly not really in fit form. :ohwell:
hopefully she will spend the time now to polish her programs and present a stable competition.

I don't know. I did not look at pictures and think that she was unwell or unfit. That SP did not look like her at all. She usually is so gritty that she will fight for landings and that seemed missing. She did not look overly upset after the performance. I guess we shall see. Hopefully she will do a B event or two.

Thanks for the video! It's so nice to see Lena's big smile!

Well, this is bizarre!! I do HOPE that Lena looked so out of shape because she wasn't feeling well. And someone on one of the VK skating pages said that Elena Vaytsekhovskaya had written somewhere that Lena had been ill and on antibiotics, but I haven't been able to find the original article or blog post. But even if that's true, she seems to be quite susceptible to getting sick and she needs to do more to avoid illness!

The strange this is that we still have no idea what Lena's LP is. Does she even have one?? Is it possible the Fed vetoed her new LP and that's why she didn't skate?

hopefully its just really illness and nothing to do about not being prepared with a FS.

I get sick a lot too so I am in no position to crticize Lena. I'm sick right now. I doubt that her long program was dinged by the Feds. I am more likely suspecting that after the SP Lena and her team decided it might be better to not skate anymore this weekend and address whatever her issues are.

Yes, I hope you're right winky97! :agree:

Here's the article I mentioned earlier--finally found it:
http://www.sport-express.ru/figure-skating/reviews/ukradennoe-shou-v-sochi-1043393/

Among the ladies, Elena Radionova was limited to the execution of the short program because of a recent illness and sufficiently serious course of antibiotics.

Well, I hope Lena gets well soon!

And I'm still super curious about her LP!!

Yes, I hope too that she just did not perform well because she was ill...but we have all seen her perform while sick, and she typically fights a lot more. I know it was only a test skate, but still.

I would love to see an interview with her and Inna soon. No news makes me worry a bit, and Inna probably has her hands full now with Kovtun and Voronov...I just hope Elena is getting the attention she needs.

I think seeing the other ladies perform so well has made me quite anxious. I hope this lights a fire under Elena so she is motivated to continue working.

One other thing I find very interesting. While I don't really see any improvement in her posture or lines during this program (compared to last season), I have read multiple other posts commenting on her improved posture and lines, arms, etc. So either this is too subtle for me to see (which is quite possible as I have no training in dance or skating), or much of the complaints of her posture, lines, etc. from last season were just people finding something to dislike about her skating. I do find her skating from last season much improved from 2014 though.

Well, Lena has definitely grown up and developed into a beautiful young woman. It is clear that her body filled out more over the summer. She may just still be getting swift kick from puberty and will have to ride it out. She may just have been sick. May be both. We just don't know. Some of the other young ladies had their share of problems too. It's early. I would not worry so much about an interview from her or Inna. No matter what they say, until Lena is landing those jumps, you are probably still going to be worried. Her smiles in the photo and video give me some hope that maybe what happened this weekend was not carryover from last season's struggles. She largely seemed sad last year, I think because of the struggles. As for posture and lines, honestly I don't really think that much about it. There are skaters known to have beautiful posture and lines who bore me to tears such that I hate watching them. Lena just needs programs that hide those weakness in her skating, since I doubt at this stage of her career it's not going to change much.

I am hoping that she will do B event, but right now she is not listed for one. How are those assignments done? Is it up to to Russian Fed who to send?

On the other hand, if she struggles this year, which I hope is not the case, better to get it out of the way before the Olympic season. I'm sticking with her no matter. I adore that personality too much not to.

I have a sad impression that more she is beatiful, more she has problems with her jumps.
But I believe in her. She will be back

This is the flaw with these young ladies having so much success when they are 13, 14, 15 years old. They have to grow up. Depending on genetics, the body will have its way and change, making things that they used to do easily more difficult. Meanwhile people freak out. This is the best time for Lena to have her problems. It is not the Olympic season, so her dream to be Olympic champ is still in her reach. Her coach even acknowledged in a interview at the end of last season that Lena would still be having body changes this year as she grows into a beautiful woman. Every female skater has to go thru it to some extent, it's just that some of them have so much success young that when there is an issue it is more noticeable.
Genetics are what they are. She will always be one of my favorites regardless. It took her a minute to win me over, but now I am her's to keep.
