Elena Radionova

Elena skates 2'nd in the first warm-up group, right before Medvedeva (3'rd st. №). She is first to skate among the main favourites. Not the best start order for Elena but whatever. Our little fighter wouldn't let that get in her way. :)

Lena fighting!:clapper:

Lena looked super fashionable at the draw, as usual.
And lucky lucky Dima!

Lena fighting!

Yeah, it is not the best draw for Lena... :ohwell: I really hope she's in full-on revenge mode after GPF and totally kicks butt in the SP!! :cheer:

Here's another photo--a Masha-Sergei-Lena snow globe!

Apparently some of the skating fans mistakenly thought that Lena is Spanish and were eagerly awaiting her appearance at the Spanish national championships! :palmf: :laugh2:

And this is a bit old, but here are some fun comments about Lena at Rostelecom and GPF:

Seemingly overnight a growth spurt turned Elena Radionova from a fragile Bambi to a beautiful young lady.

See blooming, - a world's admiration, -
The beauty! tall, rosy, well-shaped;
Proficient in each occupation;
A beauty, however she's draped.

Elena Radionova Russia Free Skate to Turandot by Giacomo Puccini: Pretty in pink. Elena looked mature and like a "Miss Russia" winner in this; How's that for mixing Pageant and Figure Skating!

I like the color combination, it looks great on blonde girl. The bodice is nicely decorated with rhinestones. The dress turned out beautiful and tender. I know that Elena designed it herself, well done! It’s much better than her last season’s dress from a famous designer) But I still have a feeling that something is missing, some detail to complete the image. Maybe some hair accessory. And looking at this dress you won’t guess what she’s skating to, I mean it can be any classical music or lyrical song.

Oh... I wonder what made them think that..

I have no idea... I guess Elena can also be a Spanish name...????

The bowl is empty, so I guess Lena was the last person to draw a number...?

And here's a CSKA video. It mostly shows Buyanova's group, but you can see little Lena at 1:28, 1:46, 2:20, 2:46 (yep, Lena always gets to be in the center of photos):

Well, I've been pretty busy over the past few weeks, so I never had a chance to share my thoughts about GPF. Russian Nationals have already started, but I guess it's better late than never!

I have to admit that I was rather worried about Lena at GPF. For whatever reason, she doesn't seem to skate her best at the GPF--she's fallen at the GPF every time she's performed there. And then when I heard that the ice conditions were bad and that it was warm in the arena, I was really concerned. So I wasn't very surprised that Lena struggled.

I saw Lena's score for the free program before I watched it, so I knew she didn't skate well, but when I actually watched, I was impressed that she held it together so well. She basically changed three jumping passes on the fly, and yes, there were underrotations, but she got the jumps done. No more falls, and no pops. Lena is clearly good at thinking on her feet. :agree:

Of course, it would be best if Lena didn't have to improvise her jumping passes. But I think what she said after GPF makes a lot of sense:

Q: How was the off-season - did you have time to relax?
A: Yes, as always, I had a few weeks to rest and then stage my new programs. One set in Canada, the other - in America. I was seriously ill, had to catch up before the test skates. I am also trying to cope with the challenges of growth. I gain weight, and then I lose it. It is necessary to constantly get used to my body, and it is not very easy.

Q: Tell us more about the problems with growth.
A: I can go to the gym, and because of my fluctuating weight, my jumps feel quite different. When I'm in the air, I am no longer able to control the process well.

I said this after Worlds, and I'll say it again, I think Lena just needs more time to get used to her body.

So I'm a little torn. On one hand, obviously I want Lena to skate super well at Nationals and make it to Euros and Worlds. :yes2:
But on the other hand, I'm not sure if it would be better for her (for the long run), to miss the rest of the season but have lots of time to work on her skating and jumps. If that happens, however, it might be difficult for her to maintain her motivation if there is no major competition looming.
So I don't know.. :confused2:

That being said, unlike at GPF, Lena tends to do really well at Nationals, and it looks super cold there, so I am much more optimistic about Lena's skating this time. It will be tough for her to skate second, but I really hope she can find that fire and totally kill it in the SP!! Fight Lena fight!!! :cheer:

Well, I'm happy that Lena looked very pleased at the end of her SP, but obviously she was disappointed with the score. Apparently she was struggling in practice (as usual), but she managed to pull off an almost-clean skate. :agree:

I noticed that Lena changed her entries to her 3Lz and 3Lo slightly. She has been pulling to the outside on her jumps, but now she seems to be entering her jumps on a wider (bigger) circle, so maybe that is helping. Her 3Lo looked much better to me.

Also, she does look like she lost some weight compared to GPF. I just hope someone is making sure that she's getting enough nutrients and vitamins and that she doesn't have a problem like Yulia at Rostelecom.... :noshake:

Here's an interview with Lena after the SP:
http://rsport.ru/figure_skating/20161223/1114162700.html

Figure skater Elena Radionova said that short program at the Russian Championships in Chelyabinsk turned work, but she was glad that she was able to cope with herself and difficulties.
Radionova received for the short program score of 70.19 from the judges.

"Of course, I can do the combination better, but on the whole, the skate was normal I can not say that I was very zdorovsky -.. Is working rolled I was happy at the end because I skated emotionally, there are some difficulties that must be fought, so. in the end I had such emotions - I can do what I am fighting, above all, to myself, "- said Radionova to reporters.
In the Grand Prix finals in Marseille, held December 8-11, Radionova ranked sixth . "After Marseilles I really wanted to go home, to start training to rectify the situation. We are working a little bit differently. Maybe it's even better. It was the work not only of the jumps, but also on the steps and on spins. It was in together - everything had to come in order:., and the head, and the gap between the competition program was very short, but a lot of the girls were in the same situation ", - said the skater.

Well, I hope Lena just goes for it in the free! I feel like if she worries too much about the underrotations, she'll skate cautiously, but she needs to attack attack attack! :yes2:

She's skating first in the final group again (eek!), but hopefully that just doubles her motivation to skate well and put pressure on everyone else. :agree:

GOOOO LENA!!!! :hap10: :hap10: Show us your beaming smile at the end of your program!!!

She has quite good spring for her 3lz. The issue is why she always jumps her 3-3 combo in that death corner. I hope she will fix her jumps for the Olympic season. Things are not looking good for her right now.

I think her biggest problem is her body continues to change. Until she stops having to constantly deal with a different body when she hits the ice it will be hard for her to stabilize the jumps. I remember Mishin saying about Liza during her period of growth that the body will have its way, but once it's done the jumps will come back. Elena is about to be 18. She has to be pretty much done with her growth so I still have confidence in her.

Lena gets some sucky start orders lately. First to go in the last group. Did not work out to well in the GPF, plus I fell like the Russian Fed does not want to give it to her.
