Elizabet Tursynbayeva: Quarantine made it possible to devote time to my health and to be creative

This year, the life of the Kazakhstani figure skater, the Silver medalist of the 2019 World Championship Elizabet Tursynbayeva has undergone great changes. The athlete entered the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. In addition to her studies, Elizabet continues to be engaged in professional sports. However, the quarantine regime still affected her schedule and rhythm of life. She told about this to the correspondent of BaiɡeNews.kz.

Some questions Elizabet answered:

- How is your health now? We know you have had back problems?
-- Unfortunately, now there really are health problems. Some time ago my back started to hurt. At first, I did not pay attention to this, I endured the discomfort. Over time, the pain began to intensify. It was very difficult for me to move. As a result, during one training session I could no longer jump. After that, I began to devote time to my health. For about nine months I was seen by specialists and underwent several courses of treatment. However, it has not yet been possible to fundamentally solve the problem. I understand that the state of my health will no longer be the same. I try to protect my back as much as possible, although it is difficult.

- What kind of sports competitions are you preparing for now?
-- Now, it is generally not known whether the main competitions will take place. As you know, the Four Continents Championship was canceled. The Universiade was also postponed indefinitely. Of the main competitions, only the World Championships remain, which are supposed to take place in March next year. However, I cannot say concretely yet, nothing is clear with those either. The season is generally ambiguous. I must admit that the situation related to the coronavirus negatively affects not only the physical condition of athletes, but also their morale. Despite all this, we continue training, and we hope that in the near future we will return to the previous regime. In 2019, at the World Championships, I did a quadruple Salchow. After that, most of my fans expect a great show from me. However, I am now recovering from my injury. This takes a lot of time and effective training. I would like to perform with excellent results.

- How did the quarantine regime affect your life in general?
-- The year was difficult, no need hiding this. I think it wasn't easy for anyone. However, it seems to me that quarantine has allowed us to rethink the meaning of life. We began to appreciate our relatives and friends more. We realized that at any moment we could lose a dear person. I got the opportunity to spend more time with my family, with relatives and loved ones. At this moment, the sport suddenly faded into the background. I started to be more creative. Besides figure skating, I enjoy playing the piano and violin. I also love to sing. In short, during the quarantine, I allowed myself to relax a little, take a break from the frantic rhythm.

- Liza, what do you especially like about Eteri Tutberidze's team?
-- Athletes of the international level know that Eteri Tutberidze is a professional in her field. She is very demanding, she knows how to psychologically support the skater. There are a lot of talented athletes in her team, there is an opportunity to exchange experiences. I love their focus on results. Not just only something to spend time on, but setting a goal and achieving it. I am confident that I will show even more good results in the future. It is important for me to meet her expectations.

She actually refuted the claims made in the interview.
The reporter seemed to have added A LOT, completely changing the tone and meaning of what she said. Quite absurd, that reporters „edit“ interviews, by creating their own details and narrative to make it more juicy.
