Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

I'm not sure if this interview with Mishin was posted yet. It's very interesting. He believes that the more flexible the skater, the worse the jumps...and he wants to see revision in the way GOE is graded for jumps. I definitely agree w/him on that - it's crazy how much differentiation we see on protocols.

With all due respect to Mishin, I think he's just politicking in favour of his skater with the flexibility comment. :) I wouldn't take it too seriously; past history has shown that it's not true. Yuzuru doesn't fall a lot because he's flexible; he's falls a lot because he attempts some of the hardest content, is somewhat injury-prone, and is well trained in COP's "rotate first, worry about landing later." Even then, he doesn't exactly fall more than any of his (less-flexible) competitors.

I love hearing about the biomechanics of figure skating. Plushenko was very flexible (Biellmann spin status!) when he was younger, but also prone to falling. It wasn't until after he lost his insane flexibility that he became a more consistent jumper.
Plushenko didn't lose his Biellmann until after 2005 Worlds, and he did his best performances--and won most of his titles--before then. He fell sometimes, but not more than anyone else. He just had a habit of headcasing at Worlds in the very early years ('98 and '00) after skating well all season.

His quad did reach a near 100% consistency in his later career, but he was also attempting less of them. Even then, he didn't lose his flexibility entirely--the guy was still doing a Y-spiral two years ago.

Interview with Liza's mom...she watched the SP at work! How could she hold it together when mere fans have panic attacks watching competitions?

I am not sure about the men (Plush is totally an outlier though) but there definitely is some correlation between steady jumping technique and moderate flexibility. Take Midori Ito, Michelle Kwan, Yuna Kim, Liza Tukt... all of them have great technique and consistency but "average" flexibility by skating standards. I think it is not a cause of good technique, but simply a correlation. Because these skaters worked a lot on their jumps, flexibility wasn't there main focus (as in the case of, say, Sasha Cohen).

Congratulations to Liza! The 2015 World Champion. Won the SP AND the LP. The only skater to receive above 130 for the FS, even though she wasn't at her best.

Bow down to the new Empress of figure skating.

Bitter about Liza's score? Losers. Look at some skater with terrible jumps still get full credit, I'd say Liza is underscored.
Anyways, congrats my Queen on her first world title.

I'm exhausted and need to catch some sleep before the men's FP, but of course I had to come here to say....

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, World Champion

It hasn't even quite sunk in yet, but....

Congratulations, Liza! :)

I'll never understand why some people are so full of hate and negativity, especially toward teenagers...makes you wonder if they really enjoy this sport at all.

My stream kept freezing so I couldn't really appreciate the moment, but suffice to say I'm thrilled for her and Team Mishin! And seeing her cuddle with Elena on the couch was so cute.

With all that whining, you'd have thought that the judges had given Liza 70 for PCS. lol
Some people are very bitter because their own favourites just can't cut it. They don't even realize how stupid they sound.

Yeah, Liza and Lena were really cute together.
