Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

The new EX fits Liza quite well. I get what y'all mean about the song being overused, but I wouldn't have minded that as her SP. It would be a bit more forgiving than Carmina Burana (which is so intense and powerful that she needs to nail everything).

I don't think Liza's adverse to all things colour. She did wear purple for Sandstorm and had a blue jacket for Get Low. Maybe they're still working out the costumes?

Tuk Tuk was fabulous in her Skate Canada free skate - what an amazing comeback. I was shocked about her sp results, but was confident that she would fight back! :cheer:

I didn't mind her costume @ all. I do like that it had some red as a contrast to the black fabric. Bottom line, it's the skating I watch and care about the most.

Actually I am a little concerned about you. Glad to see you back! We are with you and your people at this difficult moment.
aw thanks a lot SD:ghug: (it was my 1st ever flight on the day of mourning:hopelessness:)

I like Carmina Burana (& more than her LP)
Imo intense music & Liza is a match made in heaven
I feel like its pushing her & motivating her

(btw some posts in the rus ladies thread are :eeking: Like really...????....IKEA???? Still I dont get why its Mao fans that bash Liza & our other gals more than others
Just be happy for your skater It doesnt mean - go bash the rival :palmf: They dont seem to bash Ash or Gracie that much)

Agree on this. It's like playing the same song over and over again..And IKEA is beyond my comprehension and all respect:-/ All girls are so different, talented in their own way and growing! What can I say - time will be a judge. Let skaters do their job..

Competitive skating is much more important than those shallow talks. I think Mishin's strategy is very correct, that is, to remain on top Liza has to be superior to her rivals in technique, so honing 3A at this stage is a rather effective way out for her.

I'm relatively new to the sport - this will be my fifth Worlds as a fan - but I've noticed a bizarre Cold War approach to analyzing FS from a lot (not all) of American fans. Few went out of their way to asterisk Sarah Hughes' OGM compared to Sotnikova, for example.

Agree that one of the best things about figure skating is that no two skaters interpret the sport the same way, which makes everyone compelling (especially Liza imo ;) )

lol I have to be honest, as someone who is also a fan of Ashley I do feel like she gets bashed a lot when she does well, but Liza does seem to be on the top of the 'to bash' list right now :hslap:

I think some people's dislike for Wagner is not much linked to her skating.

It's because Liza is a legitimate threat - might actually be legitimately better than those fan-favourites - and they don't want to accept that.

(I think I just realised a connection between Liza and Max in that regard...)

I noticed this one right from the outset, watching that awfully-cut Plushenko fluff piece the NBC did for Vancouver and listening to their commentary.

lol sorry I have a habit now to come here & complain about other posters
but really it feels therapeutic ! its like safe heaven where ppl can actually understand :yay:

all of these social meda sites are like mushrooms after the rain
I'm getting easily lost

It would be a poor reason indeed to like or dislike a person just because of his/her skating abilities.

In my opinion it's also a poor reason to bash someone's skating itself just because you think you dislike them as a person or to like their skating just because you think you like them as a person (I say you think because let's be totally honest, unless you know a skater personally, by which I mean you've actually talked to them multiple times and observed them in a variety of situations you don't really know what kind of a person a skater really is from short interviews and watching their facial expressions). One could say, 'I don't really like Ashley's attitude and for that reason can't support her, but that was a decent skate overall' instead of saying 'Ashley's skate was trash I hate her over the top facial expressions and her scores are a joke, she has no transitions and also all her jumps are under rotated and so on and so on and so on' (insert any skater whose personality someone doesn't like for Ashley).

I also find it bizarre when people seem to feel the need to justify their dislike of someone's skating (or singing, or acting, or whatever - it's not just a skating phenomenon), by deciding that they have to be a Bad Person. I may seriously dislike someone's skating, but I can still hope they are a nice person, and a good friend, and a devoted family member, &c.

Note: Just to clarify: This is not apropos Ashley - I enjoy Ashley's skating.:) But more a general remark.

Yup, I also quite agree with this :2thumbs:

yeah its not fair but imo it happens subconsciously (sp?)
Especially in this age of social media
Once a famous person says smth that goes against some fan's beliefs ppl can start hating on his/her art
Happens with all celebs

I also like Ash's skating even tho she says something I dont agree with like 'sonograms' obviously

Liza at Skate Canada

Since you are just talking about the "social media and critical voices", maybe something for you to read, about Liza at SC ;) from my column
2.2 Liza´s world (I am not a pessimist)

Clouds, she had to dodge as well and for a World Champion, she seems to be very calm and quiet and you got to love the attitude she presents on the ice. It always seems like everyone could do it and while I for sure could never rock the dresses as she does and god beware, manage to land on my feet after a jump or spin with any of my legs higher than the knee, she does it all with ease, like it´s the most normal thing to do.

It almost seems like decades ago, when she had to face a very difficult time in her life. A time that every female athlete seems to hate, puberty. In the year of the Olympics, she only came 10th at nationals, unable to medal and therefore without a ticket to Sochi. While Adelina and Julia won the medals for her country and became superstars at home, Liza was out and lonely, unsure what her future skating life might look like and to all of that, she also picked up an ankle injury, leaving her out until summer.

When many already wrote her off, complaining about weight and other stupid things, she returned, returned with a bang at Nebelhorn 2014, winning the competition in front of Gracie and Alena, followed by seven more wins, including Worlds, Europeans and the GP final. What impressed not only fans, but other skaters was her triple Axel, an element that she landed together with a triple toe-triple toe combination and a triple Lutz, becoming the first woman ever, to do four triples in a SP.

It was very difficult ... but it is very important for us to reinvent ourselves and constantly make breakthroughs

Of course I am aware of the risks. There is a 50 percent chance I would fall. But still I think we need to take as many risks as the male athletes do so that in the future we can achieve more elements.
she noted after her SP at Worlds last season

In the current season, the record breaking Russian traded her gorgeous Boléro from last year, for Carmina Burana, choreographed by Benoît Richaud and what worked OK at Nice, where she however, only came second in the short, did not quite work that well at Skate Canada and for Liza, it was quite a little disaster, not landing any of her triple jumps, while coming 7th only, with a huge gap to the leader Wagner.

Everyone can make mistakes, look at the Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu, there is nothing bad or terrible about that.

And there isn´t, especially if you have the capabilities of Liza, to come back with such a huge performance in the Free, skating to music from the dramatic poem of Peer Gynt, which definitely had the right touch for Halloween, very spooky and mysterious, with the Russian shining in the darkness.

Stephane suggested music of Peer Gynt and I wanted something with a symphonic orchestra and when I heard it for the first time, I knew that this is going to be my music.

In said program, Liza landed seven triples, including a shaky Axel, but gorgeous triple Toe combination, ending up with 68.83, the highest technical score of all ladies.

Yesterday, wasn´t a good day for me, but this is something you need to forget about and go back fighting on the ice, I am not a negative thinking person, you know and what is done is done anyways. I am happy that I could pull myself together and show all my jumps that I can do.

Liza´s performance, however, was not all about jumps. Her Free Skate was choreographed by Stephane Lambiel and received high PCs, especially in interpretation averaging a 8.32. Remarkable was how such a quiet skater, can still create such an incredible atmosphere by her emotes and movements, something that all, except one judge were able to see.

Yesterday I was not so confident, it is harder than last year, but I am pleased that I was able to skate an almost clean performance and could leave yesterday behind me
.
