Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

I am so disappointed by judge's treatment of Liza. Two clean skates, triple axel from a former World Champ of Russia, and 7th place? WT.?
Her technique should have been at least 72. Also, with better spins and another 3lutz instead of second 2A it should be on the level of Zagi. Also her short is fabulous and I don't get why Gabi gets +3 goe on her 3t-3t and Liza only +1.
I hope she continues fighting and makes the Olympic team she deserves more than anyone aside from Med.

Good news! Liza did her 3A!!! (There was a step out, but it was fully rotated!)

The bad news...she came 7th?! Like...I get that her PCS won't be the best, but she has by far the best jumps of anyone else there. Frankly I'm annoyed...why did she work so hard to get her 3A back when it seems pointless? May as well have worked on putting all the jumps in the second half.

Sigh, I'm really disappointed. On the upside, Mishin was adorable in the Kiss and Cry with his giant panda plushie.
It's just the way CoP is now. Everything little detail counts, especially when you haven't been skating well in the last two seasons. Liza has bigger jumps with better technique than most of the top ladies. But in terms of spins, stsq, transitions entering and exiting the jumps and the ability to back-load jumps, she loses out to them. And all these add up in the final TES count. The 3A is a significant achievement but what it really means in terms of actual scoring is just an additional 2.50 points in base value over her 3Lz. So that was all that was added to her FS. Whether we feel it's right or not, this is the way the system is.

I don't think it was pointless because she has to start somewhere and landing that jump gives her so much confidence. But I also hope that her coaching team will not neglect the other aspects which need work on.

And about her dresses this season, I like them too. It's a refreshing change over the batwing or thedressthatshallnotbenamed.

True true! (Evidentally it was feeling a little down last night  Skating makes me DRAAAAMATIC ;) ) Beyond that, I guess I'm not very good at recognising transitions or maybe I just find programs with too many of them too busy. But yeah, Liza's spins aren't as good as the other ladies'.

And 2.50 points, that kind of stinks, I thought there was a bigger margin than that, considering how difficult the jump is for ladies.

I'm still a fan of the other dresses, I liked the billowing sleeves, but the new costumes look really nice, Liza looks fierce in them!

As I said elsewhere, but would like to repeat here - I think it's a positive sign that she actually skated the LP better here WITH a 3A than she did without at Lombardia and Finlandia. She didn't pop, fall, stumble or omit any jumps. It seems that her confidence is growing, as the season is progressing.

I hope she will be able to successfully integrate the 3A in the short program at her next outing.

A question, as I'm curious, and like to hear from those who know more - were the GOEs on her jumps fair?

Her GOE was expected. In my eyes. It was not low but had she been skating consistently well over the last 2 years, it would have been higher.

Also, once she gets the jumps stable, she will need to add more transitions and steps, since the amount she does is not enough really anymore.

i don't get why she didn't get much GOEs on her jumps, is transition really gave much GOE? i mean some of her entries are same with most of other skaters. her 3T-3T and lutzes should have +1/2 across the board. Sad to see with 3A she still have less than 62 BV though, well if she have old layout it would be above 63 (put 2nd 3Lz and 3S-2A SEQ) i also wonder why she didn't do 2A-3T since she has good axel... or maybe try 2A-Lo-3S. she also need to focus on spin and steps, get her level 4.

But those things where she loses out are mostly TES. Where Liza Turks was lowballed and lost big points on was the PCS. I get it that previously, she was not the most consistent and hadn't skated clean. But CoC was the cleanest she has gone and you could see she had more energy and enjoyment than before. She really ought to be scored for what she had delivered than low balled due to previous performance.

I will quote what I overheard an American ISU judge and sometime US Team leader say to a parent of a well-known former junior ice dancer at JWs 2017: "PCS is subjective... it's an indication of whether the judges like you or not."

I don't understand why she would rather work and jump a risky triple Axle than work and compete spins at level 4. It can't be more difficult than jumping a triple axel. And had she had all spins on level 4 she would have been 5th and not 7th. Two Places is a huge difference.

I guess that would depend, apparently Liza's not very flexible for a skater, so it might actually be impossible for her to get into a Level 4 spin position, whereas she can jump the triple axel even if it's a bit iffy right now.

I've heard you can work on flexibility but it's a lot harder when you're older and it takes ages! (I've been trying to get more flexible for like four years now...needlessly to say it ain't working  although admittedly I don't stretch every day)

She could work on her rotations.... entry into the first position- 1 level (if a difficult entry or backwards, 2)
position change 1 level
rotation min. 8 1 level. So with a difficult entry she would have already 4
another position change 1 level
or edge change 1 level
There are so many options!!

They need to do more run-throughs in that coaching group. The attention paid to the details in the CoP guidelines is not adequate.

Gosh, I so hope she's planning to level up her spins for her program in two days! I think she would have a good shot at the podium if her spins were all level 4

I can't say I'm hoping for that, seeing that Team Mishin are notoriously lax when it comes to those things. So I'll concentrate on hoping for something that I feel is a more realistic wish: I hope for Liza to have two great skates.:)

Note: I'm not going to say that I don't care about placement - because of course I do. I'd love nothing better than to see Liza raking in the medals, but... for now, I'm contenting myself with wanting to see Liza the way I love seeing her: confident and fierce.:)
