If you could start an eponymous figure skating award (but you were in the mood for fun), what would it be?

I'll start with the idea that I found on the other thread (originally suggested by @elektra blue ):

Golden Kusaka Happy Coach Award - named after Tadao Kusaka's reaction to Shun Sato taking the Olympic bronze in Milan:

Please, post the references if the eponymous person is lesser known but worth it!

Please, come up with suggested award design if you have any!

Please, stay positive and keep in mind the forum guidelines!

The Midori Ito Award for the skater that EVERYBODY likes and nobody EVER speaks an unkind word about. This year's nominee, Kaori Sakamoto.

The Charlotte Oelschlägel Award to the skater whose post-competitive career had the greatest influence on show and professional skating. (Must be retired from competition for five years before becoming eligible.)

The Trixie Schuba "Figures Goddess Award." For obvious reasons, this cannot be a continuing annual prize -- it is awarded only once, after which the trophy is retired.

The Dick Button Jump Innovation Award (first double Axel, first triple jump). Projected winner for next season: Mikhail Shaidarov for his quad/quad combo.

Most emotions in the kiss and cry - award. My succestion this year (or any other year) is Kevin Aymoz, or it could be Kevin A-award.
Pair or dance award to the couple who actually realize their partner is another person and not a piece of gymnastic equipment. The Underhill-Martini award: Barb liked to catch Paul unaware and see if she could make him laugh, he being the serious one. At the opening of their When A Man Loves a Woman show program, she'd circle behind him and pat his butt, which he knew she was going to do at some point and try to avoid. But she'd suddenly grab anyway and make him jump and/or blush. A running joke between them. Or if you wanted to split the award into two, for dance I'd nominate Wilson and McCall, two great friends off the ice and it showed on the ice as well.

I got "Video not available in your country." with the explanation, "We have received a legal request to restrict this content. :(.

But here she is at Eoropeans. 4:02 is labelled, the "most rewatched" part. :)

These sound fun! Giving me ideas already for the summer!
Talking about ideas for summer, what if threads could have prefixes like "ideas" or "fun"meaning that forumers are expected to come up with their ideas or have fun - similar like there is the "news" prefix?

This forum has a lot of content in it (it's a compliment); it may become confusing to tell if we talk about a fanmade eponymous award or a real eponymous award (and it causes a bit of headache regarding the thread title wording :slink:)

And of course, if there was a handy prefix, more threads of the kind would appear because... why not?😃

Any Best Save award just needs to be named after Yuzuru Hanyu, the king of most creative saves, including this most iconic one from WTT 2021, lol. Time stamped here for you.
You can name it Yuzuru Hanyu Most Creative Save award, lol.

This video seems geoblocked though, this one isn't, I put it just before the (in)famous 3A save which looked like a sort of windmill/illusion exit:

But it's not his only save of the kind, Dark Messenger in RE_PRAY had one, and there are also general collections of impressive saves by different skaters:

Here's the second part of this collection (honestly, many of these "saves" don't look so very impressive to me, so if someone could explain me...):

^ I agree that putting your hands down on the ice to keep from falling is not an impressive feat. The Yuzuru "illusion spin" one is great, though. Cat-like reflexes, body awareness and balance.

Here's a variation. The Sasha Cohen Award for playing off a huge mistake as "all part of the act, folks." At the 2005 Marshalls cheesiest, doing Romeo and Juliet, she lost her balance on her final I-spin and fell out of her closing pose. Thinking quick, she grabbed up a pretend dagger and stabbed herself -- ta-da!

Both Yuzuru and Shoma are experts at saves that any lesser men would have flumped. That iconic Let Me Entertain You is maybe the save of the century, pretty much every other man would have splatted straight on his face! let alone managed to look beautiful (I know some viewers who thought it was a 'cool move') and Shoma does manage to get his legs into origami folds which far taller and thinner people would squirm to do. I think the Japanese style lends itself to good saves.

I was thinking of him, maybe call it "To Cry or Not To Cry" for his sheer Shakespearean drama

The most "peek through your fingers she's gong to diiiieeeeee" death spiral, though I am not a massive pairs fan and death spirals scare the hell out of me, I do think that on a sheer extreme sports level they are one of if not the top move in the entire sport.

The Ginger Rogers Award for drawing so much of your attention to their face rather than feet has to go to Alysa.

Oh, and there ought to be some sort of recognition for the most impressive (not necessarily the greatest number) climb up the rankings from SP to FS, I do recall when Javier Fernandez went from last to second in a GPF people called it "Wagnering", not sure why, but Amber did a spectacular job this year 13th to 5th and Mikhail went from what fifth to gold?

I was thinking of something like this with Adam Siao Him Fa going from 19th to 3rd at 2024 Worlds.

You know, I hate to make national culture generalizations, but there might be something to this. Skating analysts have noted that Japanese figure skaters tend to display a more "sinuous" carriage and flow, compared to the "British Tango" posture of European-trained skaters.

(Possibly all baloney, but an interesting thought nonetheless.) :)
