Potentially, in theory, skaters from "tropical countries" could be no less talented than the current champions. But such talent won't be able to shine if their country has no ice rinks, no figure skating schools, and especially if this sport is unpopular there.

Those are the countries that dominate in artistic roller skating. They do the same elements in the same programs, only on wheels. There's not much incentive to build an expensive arena and switch their skaters to the ice if their roller world champions and international medallists are then going to be lost in the bottom of the pack.

But, to be honest, the questions they were asking didn't even touch on the real issues in this sport. It was mostly concerned about social media and sponsors.

The only questions that came close to asking about what we wanted them to ask about were the ones about attending competitions, and the ones about streaming. And even then they didn't ask us questions that would have given us the opportunity to say what we wanted to say.

Like a lot of sporting bodies nowadays, they seem to be under the impression that fans are more interested in the things that go on around the sport rather than being interested in the sport itself.

There weren't any questions about the rules or the format of the competitions.

A missed opportunity.
