Everytime I start recording her programs that are being televised on ESPN, they break down the screen and start running news at the bottom of it! I find it very distracting and aggravating.

It isn't just Sasha. They do it every so often, throughout the telecast, and, the viewing of whoever happens to be on gets a little ruined.

My husband said its because men have such a short attention span, that the ticker gets run so people are less likely to change the channel... Based on his viewing patterns (no channel gets more than 30 seconds of viewing time... drives me crazy!) this makes sense...

He went on to add that its the only way the wives can make their spouses watch figure skating on ESPN during the NCAA tournament... he blames Disney for ruining the "Men's Channel."

Yes, I am thinking of divorce!  (for the PC police, that's a joke...)

The only thing that makes FS tolerable for Mr. Doggy is some of the costumes. He is a fan of whoever invented illussion fabric and fringe (see Dance examples). Well, that's not totally true or fair. Mr. Doggy also likes many of the ladies pant suits these days!! (see Sarah Meier) ;) I hate to agree with him when he is being chauvanistic, but I have to agree on some of the pant suits!!

I too hate it when ESPN does that...I don't know which is worse, that the screen gets shrunk or the medley of music that accompanies it! HOWEVER, they are showing Figure Skating, so I will gladly deal with that bit of nuisance if it means I get to watch figure skating!

What is more annoying is how much time they can waste trying to drama-up everything and in doing so we are missing precious skating time.

I seem to complain about how hideous the illusion fabric is and how little the ice dancers wear and my hubby just seems to say "mmmmmm." However, being a diehard football fan, I am the one saying "mmmmmmm" during locker room interviews!

Worst of all...

it augments the aspect ratio (in most cases), so it makes the skaters (in this case) shorter and wider.

One way I get around the title bar at the bottom when trying to retain a good video is by importing into iMove to start - rather then using VT at all. There are free effects on cfx for aspect ratio and or using crop when they use the title bar and a side bar to keep it in correct ratio, 4:3 instead of there 4:2.829 or whatever they warp it into. MAC RULES!!!!! - great, now I'll have more enimies

DG, I to have to agree to a certain point with Mr. Doggie. For me it is an "Additional element" that is nice to be able to have my friends watch Skating with me instead of making me change to something like Basketball - which I don't enjoy very much at all.

As far as the pant suits, YEH!!!!!!! They are equally appealing to me if not more so on some skaters. My friends still rave about Irina's "pink belt" outfit - SP 4cont.s so they aren't disappointed either.

Worse yet is when skating and horse racing are scheduled, but the local affiliates run an infomercial or college ballgame in that spot!

Not only is the ticker at the bottom of the screen but the channel letters over in the corner ESPN, ABC excuse me but I know what channel I am wathcing.

I don't think I know ANY network that doesn't put their symbol up during a show they're broadcasting.

It doesn't bother me one bit. Besides, they're transparent, and it's nice to know what channel it is...esp. fi you're flipping...
