...even monkeys fall from trees...

The fact is Yu-Na's current back problem is NOT new. She has had it for a long time, and unfortunately, it got much worse a couple of weeks after the GPF. It was then that the cause of the pain was diagnosed as herniated disks in her spine.

But the back pain was mentioned during her GP events, long before the GPF, and it was said that she'd had the pain even before she skated in the GP.

That's why the film clip bothered me. It was obvious to me that each time she fell, it hurt much more than a simple fall should hurt a skater. And no one bothered to find out why until the pain got so bad that she collapsed.

As of right now, she IS back on the ice practicing because the SK fed wants her to go to the Asian games.

As far as I know, her back problem is first reported in GPF. Before GPF, she is heard to struggle with her boots problem and knee injury. And as to her rehabilitaion, you may not worry too much. According to the source, Yu-Na makes it clear not to go to Asian Games if she is not healthy and prepared.

Which article/source said this?

As to her collapsing, either she is pushing herself too hard or others are pushing her too hard.

The Korea Skating Union designated Choi Ji-eun,
who was 3rd place National Skating Championships,
a reserve in case that Yu-na is not in condition to compete in Asian Games.

Yu-na is not going Winter Asian Games if she is not healthy enough.

I know injuries have been around the sport forever and also know that skaters have skated through them forever. But it has never been this bad before. I blame CoP. These issues have got to be addressed. What good is pushing the technical envelope if it only results in a roster of skaters too injured to compete?

Injuries happen when the techincal envelope is pushed. Whenever a sport goes through a major push technically, there are more injuries until people learn how to trian for the more difficult requierments.
I noticed quite alot of injuries starting with the men about 4 years ago. The quad is killing them, not the system. Skaters just have to get used to the new technical level.

That is heartbreaking. I'm selfish enough to want her to take it easy, rest, and recover, because I want to be able to watch her for a long time. How very sad and depressing to see this.

Something tells me she's not going to be around for very long. Her career will be as long as Baiul's, or Lipinski's (eligible). Too bad she wasn't age-eligible for the Olympics.

Wow talk about a bad day at the rink. I would have quit after the first fall. Why was her coach and mother letting her continue to practice? Jeff Buttle took a couple of months off to rest from his back injuries. It's foolish to skate while in pain. It only gets worse. I hope she gets some medical attention soon.
