I wonder how much the RF and ISU pressure Plush to go, he said way before GP series started that even if he make it to the GPF, he was not planning on going and after COR he said that he didn't feel sorry for not making the final since he didn't feel prepared.

All and all since I'm a Plush fan, I'm happy he is competing. Go Plush!

I am sorry to hear he is competing. He really needs to save himself for worlds. I hope all the travel and competing (suddenly) won't affect him negatively.

As a fan I am always happy to see him skate, but I want him to win the major competitions- worlds and Olympics. A GPF win at this point may not mean much to him- that's just my feeling.

In Evgeny's condition, I can agree Vash about saving some of his knee for Worlds.

That being said, this is a sport, this is these careers and I commend him for stepping up to the plate. It shows sheer dedication and I think it's great that he is another one who continues to push himself both technically and artistically.

Gotta love those who have not allowed themselves to become stale or mold.

I think he'll be fine and he'll have time to recoup for Worlds. Russian Nationals is during 1st week of January and he may decide to skip Euro's

The nice thing about Euro's now is no qualifying skate.

Good Luck to Evgeny and everyone! I'm excited that the BigCheese of skating will be there - Irina, Shizuka, Evgeny, Shen and Zhao, N&K. Lots of big names still out there skating hard and keeping the sport alive.

I'm not excited about him going to the Finals. He is the number one skater in the Men's Division and the most important event for him is Worlds.

With all the 'drop outs' this GP series, I enjoyed watching lesser seen skaters do their thing and getting a few medals.

I really believe that many fans of figure skating are soley interested in one discipline with their favorite skater(s) or only the results of one country. Still other fans enjoy the 'groupie' like aspect of figure skating. None of this is wrong. We need fans of any kind if the Sport is to survive outside of the participants and their families who number quite a lot in the US, but it's not enough to get people into the arenas. At least with Evgeni there will be some increased TV viewing.

I wonder if he would participate in the GPF if $peedy hadn't threatend discinplinary actions against skaters who were not competing in the GP series, but were doing shows or cheesefests at the same time?

The thing is though, I can understand the frustration of dealing with skaters who say they will be at one of the qualifying competitions then pulling out but the GPF is a whole different kettle of fish. I mean are all those next in line skaters supposed to hang around in case someone might drop out and they earn a place? If so it seems a bit unfair.

Much as I like Plushy, I'd rather he didn't do this, just as Michelle did not got to GPF two years ago, when she also made it on one performance.

If anyone can qualify with one performance, then more power to them. As we learned last year, there's no guarantee that Plushy will win.

There is never a guarantee but whenever Plushenko is in a competition, he is the odds on favorite to win. (I hope I did not jinx him with that statement). Same with Shen & Zhao.

Oh, you're absolutely right, Vash, and I always enjoy his skating. Now that Johnny's out of the race, I know I'll be rooting for Plushy, too.

If Plushy's knee is really in such bad condition that he should only be competing in like 4 events the whole season, wouldn't it have made more sense to just take this whole season off and just get the problem taken care of? I doubt very much it would effect his chances for an OGM if he did so. However, if this knee is as bad as indicated, then it's a time bomb and NEXT season would NOT be the time to have it go off.

I would venture to say his knee is not all that bad and by spacing out some of his competitions and lessor straining fluff events, he can get through this season and make as much money as possible. Who knows what next year might bring?

I actually would say that his knee (and overall his whole body) is worse than before because last season when he as injured he still do the jumps and all the spins and now he has drop out his donut and biellman spin, because he is now injured of both knees, his back and sciatic nerve (sp?) also because last season he was playing with the possibility of having surgery but he didn't and this time it seems he finally made up his mind and will have surgery on the summer.

But back on topic, seeing Plush compete is always good! so good luck Plush!

Ximena - Very interesting report on Evgeni's condition. Where did you get this information? I have been trying to get info on the knee condition all season and there has been no report. I didn't know both knees are now in poor condition and his back is too. If all this is true, I really feel for Evgeni. That's a lot to carry while skating competition.

the last one I actually read it through a translator but in that one is where he mentions going under surgery on the summer and also says soemthing like he has enough of being hurt because as soon as he starts feeling better, the injuries return which is why he want to take care of all his injuries once and for all.

Yes, it is a lot to carry and somehow I can only wonder how is that he skates the way he does.

Thanks Ximena - After reading that I understand his pain, and his will to go beyond the pain. Not easy, and the adrenalin can only be used in competition and not in practice.

I was surprised to read he had back problems, although, that seems to be the ailment of the month. Like Irina he looks like he has a natural backbend for arching at the waist. Perhaps he went too far with it. But, that should heal in time.

I also had knee problems way back before there was arthroscopic surgery. The only "cure" at the time was complete removal of the cartiledge in the knee, and later in life I had knee replacements.

Maybe his best bet would be to avoid surgery until after the Olys????? I can not suggest anything except some athletes I've know who have arthroscopic surgery do not get 100 per cent movement afterwards. But one has to face life after skating, too.

Let's hope Evgeni makes the correct decision.

This is sad. I really hope he can overcome his injury/surgery and realizes his full potential. It will be a great loss to FS if his career is cut short.

Everytime I read an interview with Plushenko, he seems even more thoughtful. While I hadn't liked much of his competitive style until St. Petersburg 300 -- I've always loved his exhibitions -- it's clear that he's committed to an artistic vision, collaboration, and expansion of the boundarie of skating performance, regardless of the venue. In that sense, he's most like Curry, even if he has a different style. It's not often that all is copacetic on coaching and creative teams, and he's always seemed very loyal and grateful for what he has and fulfilled by his collaboration with Edvin Marton.

I agree that had he performed in the Prague exhibition, he would have had the opportunity to expand the audience for figure skating more than had he competed in the GP series. I hope he's able to recover from his injuries in time for Torino.

.

To me what happened to Plushenko in Prague was sheer atrocity. He was forbidden not only to skate but also to explain to the audience why he can't skate. And he was brave enough to step out to the stage on the request of the show organizers and to endure all the mad fury of the public. That's the ISU's idea of popularizing the sport!!! And that's their idea of how the reighning world champion should be treated!
