Thanks to my supportive friends here. The eye journey is reaching its climax. Today I had my second eye surgery to eliminate sight robbing cararacts. I went from a near sighted old man who needed progressive lenses to see near and far to a far sighted old man using cheaters for five weeks till my eyes heal and I can get new progressive lenses.

Second (right) eye done today. The cataracts were getting really bad. Now the patch is off and the double vision is going away. My eye is still dialated but better tomorrow. I have "over the web " bifocals for close up reading as I now have two monofocal lenses set to "far" that can see from the stearing wheel out to way far away. Now its a five week wait before I can get new progressive lenses. Frankly, I dont know why anyone would fool around with reading glasses/bifocals when there are progressive lens available. Cheaters are a real PITA. The journey continues. I am thankful my surgeaon doesnt use eye drops for weeks and just does one slow release antibiotic shot in the eye.

Had cataract surgery, both eyes last summer so hang in there. Distance vision is now 20/20 with grocery store lenses for reading etc which is OK using half glasses when reading or on the phone and watching TV. It has been a relief to have vision restored; my mother was totally blind so I feared the same. Somehow one can deal with most anything as long as vision is sound. Heal fast and well. All the best.

I had both eyes done the winter before last, rather to my surprise as I only used glasses for driving at that time. But I told my optometrist I didn't like to drive after dark because streetlights and car headlights all had sparkling halos around them, and he found cataracts in an early stage. Now I just use reading glasses I buy online in batch lots of four of five (different coloured frames, which is fun). There's always a pair near to slip on when I need to see something in small print.

The one thing I didn't like about having the cataracts removed was discovering the face in the mirror was older than I'd thought :(. Apparently I'd been seeing myself in soft focus for some time without realizing it!

Same here about the “soft focus” which I swear had me laughing so hard my sides ached. 😅
