Favorite Holiday song?

I also have 2...

"Breath of Heaven" (Amy Grant)
and
"Grown-Up Christmas List (Amy Grant, the Kelly Clarkson one is decent too)

I always forget about Breath of Heaven... it's the only song of Grant's that I listen to and enjoy. :)

That is also one of my favorites. Have you heard the Klezmatics doing Woody Guthrie's Chanukah songs?

attyfan, I had no idea that Woody Guthrie did any Chanukah songs! I think I've heard of the Klezmatics (I do like Klezmer music, even though I don't have any of their recordings).

I know it would become a classic for me!!! Did I say before that I love Josh.    (I know, I know, if I loved him so much how could I forget his song.........it has to do with brain cells   or lack of   )

"Where Are You Christmas?" from The Grinch *sniff* makes me think of my mom when I hear the movie's version.

There are also a few others I forgot about till now.

"Somewhere In My Memory" from Home Alone

Candles in the window
shadows painting the ceiling
gazing at the fire glow
feeling that gingerbread feeling

Precious moments
special people
happy faces
I can see

Somewhere in my mem-'ry
Christmas joys all around me
living in my mem-'ry
all of the music
all of the magic
all of the fam'ly
home here with me

Somewhere in my mem-'ry
Christmas joys all around me
living in my mem-'ry
all of the music
all of the magic
all of the fam'ly
home here with me

"Star of Bethlehem" also from Home Alone

Star of Bethlehem shining bright
bathing the world in heav'nly light,
Let the glow of your distant glory
fill us with hope this Christmas night.

Star of innocence, star of goodness
gazing out since time began,
You who've lived through endless ages
view with love the age of man.

Star of beauty hear our plea,
whisper your wisdom tenderly.
Star of Bethlehem set us free
make us a world we long to see.

Star of Bethlehem, star up high,
miracle of the midnight sky,
Let your luminous life of heaven
better our hearts and make us fly.

Star of happiness, star of wonder
you see everything from afar,
Cast your eye upon the future
make us wiser than we are.

Star of gentleness, hear our plea,
whisper your wisdom tenderly.
Star of Bethlehem set us free
make us a world we long to see.

Just wanted to add the WORST holiday song, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. I despise that song!!!!!

OK good funny and acknowledgment that is not often recognized.

Chanukah Song by Adam Sandler

Put on your yarmulke
Here comes chanukah
So much funukah
To celebrate chanukah
Chanukah is the festival of lights
Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights

When you feel like the only kid in town without a christmas tree
Heres a list of people who are jewish just like you and me
David lee roth lights the menorah
So do james caan, kirk douglas, and the late dinah shore-ah

Guess who eats together at the carnegie deli
Bowser from sha na na and arthur fonzerelli
Paul newmans half jewish, goldie hawns half too
Put them together, what a fine lookin jew

You dont need deck the halls or jingle bell rock
cause you can spin a dreidel with captain kirk and mr. spock- both jewish

Put on your yarmulke
Its time for chanukah
The owner of the seattle supersonicahs
Celebrates chanukah

O.j. simpson, not a jew
But guess who is? hall of famer rod carew- he converted
We got ann landers and her sister dear abby
Harrison fords a quarter jewish- not too shabby

Some people think that ebenezer scrooge is
Well hes not, but guess who is
All three stooges
So many jews are in showbiz
Tom cruise isnt, but I heard his agent is

Tell your friend veronica
Its time to celebrate chanukah
I hope I get a harmonicah
Oh this lovely, lovely chanukah
So drink your gin and tonicah
And smoke your marijuanikah
If you really, really wannakah
Have a happy, happy, happy, happy chanukah
Happy chanukah"

Now Sean, would it be Christmas without hearing it just once???

"O Holy Night"--there are so many beautiful renditions of this Carol but I think Pavoratti's is my favorite.
"Don't Save It All For Christmas Day", Clay Aiken version.

while we're on the subject of anti-Christmas songs... Ray Stevens has some great ones!

"I Won't Be Home For Christmas"
"Little Drummer Boy Next Door"
"I'm Giving Guilt This Christmas"
"Xerox Christmas Letters"

all top my list

I love the song "The Twelve Pains of Christmas." LOL it's so true! If you haven't heard it this should give you some laughs.

The first thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Is finding a Christmas tree

The second thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me:
Rigging up the lights
And finding a Christmas tree

The third thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Hangovers
Rigging up the lights
And finding a Christmas tree

The fourth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Sending Christmas cards
Hangovers
Rigging up the lights
And finding a Christmas tree

The fifth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Five months of bills!
Sending Christmas cards
Hangovers
Rigging up the lights
And finding a Christmas tree

The sixth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me:
Facing my in-laws
Five months of bills!
Oh, I hate those Christmas cards!
Hangovers
Rigging up these lights!
And finding a Christmas tree

The seventh thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me:
The Salvation Army
Facing my in-laws
Five months of bills!
Sending Christmas cards
Oh, geez!
I'm tryin' to rig up these lights!
And finding a Christmas tree

The eighth thing at Christmas that such a pain to me:
I WANNA TRANSFORMER FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!
Charities,
And whataya mean "YOUR in-laws"?!?
Five months of bills!
Oh, making out these cards
Honey, get me a beer, huh?
What, we have no extension cords?!?
And finding a Christmas tree

The ninth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me
Finding parking spaces
DADDY, I WANT SOME CANDY!!!!
Donations!
Facing my in-laws
Five months of bills!
Writing out those Christmas cards
Hangovers!
Now why the hell are they blinking?!?!?
And finding a Christmas tree

The tenth thing at Christmas that's such a pain to me:
"Batteries Not Included"
No parking spaces
BUY ME SOMETHIN'!!!
Get a job, ya bum!
Oh, facing my in-laws!
Five months of bills!
Yo-ho, sending Christmas cards
Oh, geez, look at this!
One light goes out, they ALL go out!!!
And finding a Christmas tree

The eleventh thing of Christmas that's such a pain to me:
Stale TV specials
"Batteries Not Included"
No parking spaces
DAD, I GOTTA GO TA BATHROOM!!
Charities!
She's a witch...I hate her!
Five months of bills!
Oh, I don't even KNOW half these people!
Oh, who's got the toilet paper, huh?
Get a flashlight...I blew a fuse!!
And finding a Christmas tree

The twelfth thing of Christmas that's such a pain to me:
Singing Christmas carols
Stale TV specials
"Batteries Not Included"
No parking?!?
WAAAAAAAAAAH! WAAAAAAAAAAH!
Charities!
Gotta make 'em dinner!
Five months of bills!
I'm not sendin' them this year, that's it!
Shut up, you!
FINE! YOU'RE SO SMART, YOU RIG UP THE LIGHTS!!!
And finding a Christmas tree

Then there's that "Christmas is Almost Here" that Kurt skated to a few years back... hilarious program to a hilarious song!

One of my favorites, too, but unlike Dee, I've never heard Groban sing it. Does anyone know if it is available anywhere on the internet?

Nan
Nan, I'll try to upload just for you this evening. Promise you won't have a heart problem but you can pant if you want.

Dee

I've never heard Josh's version either! When you upload will you post the link here or in a PM?

For traditional Christmas songs, nothing beats "O Holy Night". I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Josh Groban's version. I also love "Silver Bells," though I don't have any favorite singer for that one. Martina McBride's version is nice even though I'm not usually a fan of hers.

I don't really like a lot of the new "contemporary" Christmas songs, but there are a few good ones out there. Right now I'm addicted to Clay Aiken's "Merry Christmas, with Love." Linda Eder's "Bells of St. Paul" is beautiful and I also like "Where are You, Christmas" by Faith Hill and "Grown-Up Christmas List," (both Amy Grant and Barbra Streisand have lovely versions."

In terms of just plain funny, there is "Dominick the Donkey." My whole family thinks it is just hilarious because I have a brother named Dominick, and so we all sing the song to him when it comes on the radio.
