Favourite Figure Skating documentary ?

I've always enjoyed the late, great Bud Greenspan's Olympic documentaries, especially with regard to the figure skaters' stories. Loved Ron Luddington's insights in "Rise."

Wow....thanks guys! I just bought Reflections on ice in vhs tape for $2.53 on that website that sounds like a river in South America. I will transfer it to
DVD for my collection.....thanks JC! (5 copies left)

Thanks so much, jcoates! I never had HBO, so this will be the first time I get to view any of this. You're a plum. And thanks for your links as well, Jtsmith12

I notice that the Curry series was posted by Floskate. She has some wonderful skating videos on YouTube, including lots of vintage footage from the fifties, sixties, and seventies--people like Sabine Baess and Tassillo Thierbach of East Germany, for instance. A real skating scholar, like many of the folk on GS. Maybe she actually is here, under another name.

I just watched the Sonia Henie section of one of the documentaries. It's easy to forget how influential she was, and how she overshadowed everyone else for a decade. Phenomenal.

Oh Thanks, Doris! Another half an hour spent on Amazon checking out skating tapes and DVDs I might not have! :)
Actually, that "Magic Memories on Ice III" looks tempting...

From the reviews, I would say that vol III is the only one I would personally be interested in.....
I think ABC should bring out a DVD called, MK's best 12 skates....they would make billions....

Oh, Chris, Volume 1 of Magic Memories on Ice is fantastic, too. So much great stuff on it early "Uncle Dickie," Dorothy Hamill, Rodnina and Zaitsev (?) (when the music stopped, and Uncle Dickie was flabbergasted), Janet Lynn, Scott Hamilton, G&G -1988, The Battle of the Brians, Midori Ito in Calgary

I own pretty much every one of the skating videos mentioned, but my all-time favorite has to be this one: http://www.amazon.com/Sonja-Henie-Fire-Ice/dp/B000E3731M

It has everything and anything one would wish to know about the Immortal Sonja Henie, and presented in a poignant lovely manner as well. This one I could watch over & over & over again ad infinitum, and which I have, lol. My favorite parts are old footage of her on the ice.

One day I would like to add to my collection a documentary about the King of Figure Skating ~ Evgeni Plushenko ~ but for now I'm enjoying living & watching and being part of the times in which he still reigns supreme and continues to make history each time he steps on the ice.
