I am off on a 4 day motorcycle trip around WA state in a day so will be away for awhile but thought I would pass on this ammusing story....
Went to dinner with friends tonight after checking on the web that the fire near us was "small" . Turned out the two other fires near us were red heerings.
Came home to find three water bombers, two airline sized, fighting a 138 acre wildfire 3 miles from our house. Thankfully, the winds were light.
Bless out fire fighters!

The silver lining, Chris, is that you got some spectacular photos out of it. You ought to submit them somewhere.

When I was a teenager growing up in Spokane it was not uncommon for the county to put out a call for all the young guys to come out as volunteers to fight small brush fires (and also to treat trees for diseases like blister rust). They gave us one hour's worth of training and off we went. Lucky nobody got killed.

Nothing like what we are seeing now, of course.
