Narcisa Cup Advanced Novice Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

Oliviia finished 3rd out of 47 in the SP, with a score of 41.57.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Narcisa Cup / Triglav Trophy as it is on a pay stream.

Looking at the Protocols, there were two elements that had issues.

The second element, the Triple Lutz, was under-rotated. It had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.94, which meant that it went from having the second highest BAse Value of the programme, to being the third lowest scoring element of the programme. It got -2 from all four Judges.

In the fourth element, the Triple Loop-Double Loop, the Triple Loop was landed on the quarter. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.21, but because it had the highest Base Value of the programme, and because the Triple Loop also got a bonus point, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. It got -5 from three Judges; and -3 from Judge 3.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.60 for the third element, the Change Foot Combination Spin, to +0.83 for both the opening element, the Double Axel, and the final element, the Step Sequence. The aforementioned Double Axel also got a bonus point. All the Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE were either +2 or +3.

However, Oliviia got a 0.50 point dedeuction for a Time Violation. And one of the Judges also called her for a Costume / Prop Violation. I don't know what either of those related to.

It should be noted that Oliviia had the third highest total Technical Elements Score of the field (behind the two skaters ahead of her in the SP standings), as well as the second highest total Programme Components Score (behind only the winner of the SP).

Oliviia is currently 1.54 points behind 2nd position, Paula KASNAR (HRV), and 1.74 points ahead of 4th position, Klara JEVNIK (SVN). The three of them are the top 3 skaters in a group where 46 skaters are covered by 23.06 points, stretching down to Valentina ARA (ITA) in 47th position, 21.52 points behind Oliviia.

Yes, I am being serious. Apart from the 2.98 point gap between 1st and 2nd positions, none of the gaps after the SP are over 2.00 points. If we cut it down to 1.75 points, then the three of them are the top 3 skaters in a group where 5 skaters are covered by 5.23 points, stretching down to Anna SERGIENKO (SVN) in 6th position, 3.69 points behind Oliviia.

The leader, Katinka SZEPLAKI (HUN) is 4.52 points ahead of Oliviia. So, if she has a particularly good Free Skate, there is still an outside chance that Oliviia could win this without having to rely on Katinka making mistakes. But, being honest, the Silver Medal is probably a more realistic target to aim for.

So, lets hope she does have a good Free Skate.

:cheer: WELL DONE OLIVIIA!!! :cheer:

The Advanced Novice Ladies FS is due to start at 13:20:00 CEST (11:20:00 GMT / 12:20:00 BST / 14:20:00 EEST / 14:20:00 MSK). So 6 hours from now.

Oliviia will be the 45th and antepenultimate skater to start. So, sixth and antepenultimate skater to go in Group 6.

The Group 6 Warm-Up is due to start at 17:57:30 CEST (15:57:30 GMT / 16:57:30 BST / 18:57:30 EEST / 18:57:30 MSK). So 10h 37m from now.

Oliviia is due to start at 18:32:10 CEST (16:32:10 GMT / 17:32:10 BST / 19:32:10 EEST / 19:32:10 MSK). So 11h 12m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Narcisa Cup Advanced Novice Ladies FS: Results; Protocols
Narcisa Cup Advanced Novice Ladies: Results

Oliviia finished 1st out of 47 in the FS, with a score of 77.87. This meant that she climbed to 2nd position overall, with a score of 119.44.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Santa Claus Cup due to concentrating on the Bosphorus Cup and the British Championships.

Looking at the Protocols, Oliviia didn't actually have as good a skate as the position implies. All six of her jumping elements had negative GOE. In fact, all six of them were under-rotated. So, I will not bother to go through them all individually. I will just focus in on the three that had other things noted.

In the second element, the Triple Salchow-Triple Toe, the Triple Salchow got a bonus point, and the Triple Toe was under-rotated. It had the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.86, but because it had the second highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as teh scond highest scoring element of the programme. It got -2 from all four Judges.

She fell on the third element, the Triple Flip. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.12, which meant it went from having the fourth highest Base Value of the programme, to being the lowest scoring element of the programme. Unsurprisingly, it got -5 from all four Judges.

In the fifth element, the Triple Loop-Double Axel-Double Axel done in sequence, the Triple Loop was under-rotated and the first Double Axel got a bonus point. It had the joint fourth biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.49, but because it had the highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. It got -2 from Judge 3; and -1 from the remaining three Judges.

The smallest GOE hit of the programme was -0.43 for the seventh element, the Triple Salchow, and the second biggest GOE hit of the programme was -0.94 for the opening element, the Triple Lutz. Apart from a 0 from Judge 3 for the sixth element, the Triple Loop, all the Judges marks for the elements with negative GOE that she didn't fall on were either -2 or -1.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.65 for the penultimate element, the Flying Sit Spin, to +1.63 for the final element, the Choreographic Sequence. For the three elements with positive GOE, the Judges marks ranged from +2 to +4.

Interestingly, Oliviia's programme had the highest Base Value of the field, but although her total Technical Elements Score was identical, it was the second highest of the field. The Top 3 had the highest total Technical Elements Scores of the field, but there were big gaps between them. The girl who finished second in the FS had the highest total TES, 3.93 points ahead of Oliviia, while the girl who finished third in the FS had the third highest total TES, 3.15 points behind Oliviia.

Oliviia had the highest total Programme Components Score of the field, and only one skater had a total PCS that was close her's. Anna SERGIENKO (SVN) had a good Free Skate and her PCS was only 0.69 lower than Oliviia's. However, her programme had a much lower Base Value, which in turn meant that her total TES was much lower, resulting in her finishing in 4th position in the FS.

Oliviia finished the Free Skate 0.58 points ahead of 2nd position, Paula KASNAR (HRV), and 5.03 points ahead of 3rd position, Katinka SZEPLAKI (HUN).

Overall, Oliviia finished 0.96 points behind 1st position, Kasnar, and 0.51 points ahead of 3rd position, Szeplaki.

Now that was a surprise. I was expecting Szeplaki to hold on to win; not drop to 3rd position overall. I know that a 2.98 point lead from the SP isn't big in the greater scheme of things, but it was in terms of this field. But, I didn't realise that her FS programme was going to have a much lower Base Value than the programmes of the two girls nearest her.

Given that Oliviia actually had more elements with negative GOE than Szeplaki did, she was very fortunate to win the FS. Although she did not have the highest total TES, having the highest total PCS meant she won the FS, and the Silver Medal.

But, what this Free Skate showed is that she really needs to eliminate the under-rotations. Because if she had just had two fewer under-rotations, she would have won the title.

:cheer: WELL DONE OLIVIIA!!! :cheer:
