Figure Skating in Kazakhstan

And Samodelkina didn’t just kept her 8th but solidly placed 7th, outskating some serious competition! With a score in 190s! I am so happy! Kazakhstan feds should be happy too, and I hope they are.

She was a "little" robbed in PCs

I don't think she was. Both her tech scores and PCS seemed fair for what she did. However, the skaters who placed immediately above and below her did have inflated PCS marks for the skates they did.

The PCS/GoE tune ups are always going to be there. One thing though, if you don't see the performances live, you don't see what the judges are seeing. One thing TV captures really badly is speed. The other is the command of ice. I am gonna tell ya, that one time I saw Tennell skate live made me see how much cameras take away from her. On the other hand, cameras are generous to Levito (and Shaidorov to make it more about Kazakhstan). I really want to see Samodelkina live, like a lot! Not to the point of going to States or overseas, but fingers crossed she gets Skate Canada! She didn't explore her ceiling yet, not by the long mile.

Great season for Samo. The way she is scored is appalling. 59 PCS her one mistake across two programs was that fall, but her programs are seamless from one element to the next, and her jumps are solid, she's has so much control out there.

One of the only girls to have a 3-3 in the second half of their program as well. Liu, Chiba, Glenn, Levito, Wakaba, Pinzaronne, Petrokina (that's 7 of the top 8) could do a 3-3 in the second half, so well done to Samo.

That underrotation they hit her with on her 3Lz in the combo was really cruel. It was a q, it had a bit of a hook landing, but the winner of the event had a hook on the majority of her landings in both programs yet not a single underrotation, not a single q.

It is really appalling. She should be in the last group getting PCS around 66 or 67.

I think Samodelkina's FP PCS was fair yesterday. Presentation and choreography were weaker than that of the skaters around her. There is a lot of empty space in that programme which needs to developed choreographically, and that affected presentation because there was very little between jumps. There are other PCS scores which were questionable yesterday, but that does not in itself make Samodelkina's incorrect. She was underscored a bit in the SP, but not as much as I feared might happen in such an early group. I expect her to have better choreography next season.

What an amazing worlds for Kazakhstan in individual disciplines!

Samodelkina progressed so far during the season! I kinda disagree that her program is empty, because that's how Japanese skaters skate, putting emphasis on smoothness and fluidity and no movement between elements and they are yardstick for pcs. Her placement for the first time was fine. If she didn't fall, she would have cracked top 10 with zero hand outs. Hoping she will continue establishing her new form over the summer and remain injury free.

And Shaidorov's free was the absolute blast! I was worried about him after how hard the short went for him, but wow! Blew my mind! So glad the judges didn't try harder to keep Adam on the podium!

Now, Kazakhstan, look at dance and pairs, and the future is bright!

Congrats to Shaidorov's! And the gold if possible is they stop overscoring Mallin... And for Samoldelikina .. to be honest except for Amber that has a 3A ... everything is for catch ( the tech part is very close .. the wining is base on PCs and other factors) ... is keep going .. be consistent

Misha's performance was the highlight of the entire event. Really held it together under huge pressure, knowing he won't be getting the PCS gifts like the rest so had to go clean with much more difficult content than anyone but Malinin (Misha's jumps are much cleaner than Ilia's though). One of the great performances I've watched. To back it up as well after that incredible 4CC performance.

It's so hard for Kazakh skaters they really get low balled. That's what makes this silver all the more sweeter for Misha because he earned it the hard way, he's never been given a gift from international judges in his entire career. It's something he can truly be proud of.

I don't know how to properly share the post in another thread, so fingers crossed, but the point is Samodelkina is basically first on the list of subs for most GP events to get a second spot. Rooting for her!!!

Abaeva and Smagulov looked good after the SP in Ankara, but alas, it didn't hold in the free skate for either junior athlete. Hope to see a gradual improvement in that respect.

Omigosh, Samodelkina in second after the short in her GP stage! Hope she keeps the podium position!

Samo was great really strict as always with her levels. Good to see the PCS nudging a little higher, it needs to be even higher though (at the same level of Everhardt who interrupted her program with a big fall :scratch2:).

She keeps silver, despite Hendrickx and Young putting a cleaner skates in the free. Love both programs for Samodelkina this year. ❤️ I hope she paces herself, recovers fully and has the great first Olympics

Samo did it. What an achievement defeated some big name skaters despite limited preparation. She should have got more in the SP so it shouldn't have been so close. I thought she had the best, cleanest jumps of anyone including Kaori across both programs.

My palms were sweating when she landed that wonky 2A but still managed to put a 2T on the end of it. She held her nerve and didn't panic, even when she singled on that 3F late in program.

Sad that Samodelkina was unable to participate in Finland, but I hope that it gives her more time to prepare for the next competition. And, well, we are going to find out this weekend if Shaidorov makes the cut for the GPF. I think this only happens if Brown is in first place, beating both Kagiyama and Adam. Fingers crossed!

It's all a little strange because she's planning to go to Tallinn or Zagreb and they're in the EU, so presumably they have a visa already for those events. Terrible organisation given we knew Petrokina was likely to not participate for a long time. Got to put the blame on Raf and Kazakh fed for this. Amateur hour stuff.
