IMO it is only natural for ISU members to recommend changes that would help their own skaters.

This is indeed the mind set that dominates the ISU.

A little bit off topic, but I read yesterday that the 15 member executive committee that runs the International Olympic Committee comprises 9 Europeans, 3 Asians, 2 from Latin America and 1 African. The lone North America representative was voted out last year.
