Wow, P&B won the OD and the FD! Even though they didn't win overall this has to be somewhat encouraging for them.

Too bad for B&S. Winning bronze here would have given them great momentum going into the fight for the third spot on the Russian dance team. At least they got themselves in front of G&B.

Failla & Scali won completely on the strength of their compulsory; they lost tiny fractions of points on both their original and their free. Interesting...

It is interesting indeed! Judges seemed to LOVE their FD in TEB. I thought that Kerrs were so much better than F/S. Therefore, I could not understand why F/S outscored K/K in Paris so clearly. But, maybe there is some hope to Kerrs to beat F/S at the Europeans :), since now the judges did not overscore F/S program this time.

i thought that the costumes and the makeup of the team that won Gold were interesting (the music was Beethoven Moonlight and dressing like clowns). What was the idea?

Kinga, no need to apologize for being negative LOL. I was expecting a lot more from the dancers this competition too, but most teams seemed to have little bobbles and stumbles here and there and S/B fell out of a dance spin. Weird. But I love the unpredictability in which dance has become and how the judges seem to be rewarding teams for what they see at each current competition.

It's good for the sport, the skaters, and the fans.

Yes, the ice dance has become SUPER interesting!

I don't get the idea :) Sorry, does not work for me.

He's Pierrot and I assume she's Colombina.
But what was it about Moonlight Sonata that made them think "clowns"?

I'm with Kinga. F/S are one couple I find very overrated; to me, they're competent but not particularly interesting. I've no idea why they are consistently ahead of the Kerrs and how they finished ahead of P/B overall this time.

It's not a "clowns" program.

He's Pierrot, a mime:
Pierrot is a stock character of mime and Commedia dell'Arte, a French variant of the Italian Pedrolino. His character is that of the sad clown, pining for love of Columbine, who inevitably breaks his heart and leaves him for Harlequin. He is usually depicted wearing a loose, white tunic
It inspired one of the most if not the most popular french song: Au Clair de la Lune

Then there are different versions: Some says that Pierrot "took the moon" For Columbina's love. In other versions Colombina is the moon and Pierrot falls in love with the moon.

So the moon is very important in the story. Pierrot is often portrayed win the moon:

Oh, thank you so much! Sounds very interesting! I have been familar with that melody since my childhood, but never knew the lyric or the title. Thank you. It is cool that they picked the very serious one, Moonlight Sonata, to depict that story.

This field felt weaker than SC to me. Seems like FD scored in the low 90s are the winning ones this season so far. Will be interesting to see how things go in the GPF, then 4CC and Worlds. Ice dance is amazing...no team seems to be the undisputed lock, I'm loving the competitiveness this year!

F/S just don't do it for me...I don't like their look, they seem physically to be the same especially when it always looks like she is actually bigger than him! Just not aesthetically pleasing to me. P/B looked better, glad to see they had their skates under them better. S/B are just dull to me, I can appreciate their teknik but they just kinda bore me. I think the Kerrs are more interesting than any of the teams here. And of course, my faves (D/W) are doing so well this season. Except for the OD from hell, I'm loving their scores so far!

GPF is going to be so exciting!

ETA: I love Kim and Brent, but they are in so much trouble this year...I worry for them at Nationals.

Thanks for the explanation, I am ashamed of my ignorance :)
Nevertheless, the program as such still does not work for me, I agree with this opinion:

For me there's no problem with someone not liking a team because of...
you know, taste. ;)
What I don't like is people saying that F/S just picked a random music and put some clowns costumes to do a free dance. There was a LOT of thought in this program. It's a wery well constructed program, very cleaver and original.
Talking about F/S in general, I find them...nice. But they have never been a team that made me say "Wow!" if you know what I mean. But I still respect them and their efforts. Especially when you see at NHK the free dances the new generation (S/B, G/B, B/S) had :sheesh:, painful to watch...
Cool, Massamo's costume is almost identical to the one in the picture.
Yep, that's why I got the thema right away. Just google "Pierrot" and you'll see more pictures.

Thanks, rosee. I still don't really like the program, or F/S as performers, but at least now I know what they're trying to convey out on the ice. As could be seen from my earlier post, I was quite confused about the concept before your explanation.

As to their actual skating today, he seemed pretty shaky on some of the lifts, esp. the first one. I was surprised to see a +GOE for it.

I have never said that they 'just' put random clothes and chose random music. I assumed that they had an idea behind it,which took them some time and work to figure out. I just did not find it appealing.

I watch top three free dance. I thought they were all gorgous in their on way. I am falling inlove with ice danceing. I think the networks should show a lot more ice dancing. If more people watched it they would realize how much artistry is still in figure skating. The highlight of NHK so far for me.(including mao and oda)
