Alexandra Stepanova turns 21 in August.

Viktoria Sinitsina just turned 21 today.

Natalia Kaliszek is almost 20.

Anastasia Khromova is almost 19.

Alexandra Nazarova is 19.

Rebeka Kim is 18.

Tina Garabedian is 18.

For that matter, Maia Shibutani is only 21, but turns 22 in July.

Yes, extremely impressive, but especially Guillaume. Gabriella is the same age or older than quite a few of this Worlds' ice dance ladies. Maia Shibutani is only 10 months older, for example. In May they will both be 21.

It's a local program from the region where P/C are originally from.

She mentions they've lived there for 17 years, it's where they trained for many years and their families still live there. So they are happy to be back for a short vacation after TEB 2014. They then explain how local people are recognizing them more after having two victories in COC and TEB when it's just their 2nd season as seniors. They talk about COC and how they had for objective to be on the podium but certainly not the 1st so they were extremely surprised. Guillaume adds it was even more of a surprise for them and the skating world because there were some serious competition from the World champion at the time. The journalist says the Italians must be taking it hard to be passed by young skaters. Guillaume minimizes it by mentioning how the Italians had a tough start this season and they will most probably come back strong.
Then a small report about the post TEB victory. Guillaume says they thought they could make it but certainly not that fast.
The journalist tells them how important a step those victories were and people are being so flattering about their performances. Guillaume agrees and Gaby adds it's the result of a lot of hard work and sacrifices and that it means their decision to leave for Montreal was the right choice.
They go on to talk about how they skate together for so long and how their bond is a great advantage compared to their competitors. Gaby says their style of skating slowly got in tune with one another. They also remember how hard it was when they were training in high school, training at 6.00 AM then again at lunch time and finally after school. Now they put studying a bit aside even though they still both follow correspondence courses.
sThen they play this cute old reports from 2008 when they were 14. In it, she mentions that when one partner is too stiff and the other too soft, it can't work. And the young Guillaume says they are thinking doing something internationally. They laugh seeing their old self saying it's horrible to see that.
They just talked about the next competitions Euros, World and footage of the French Nationals are shown.

And another crazy thing about Guillaume, he started skating quite "late" meaning he started when he was 8 years old AFAIK. I did not check all other males ice dancers but from what I could see, most of them started latest at 6 years old...
 
For some reason, I thought Maia was around 24 and Alex 21, lol! I must have mistaken this with another ice dance couple.
Honestly, I'm happy that young couples like them and Gabriella/Guillaume are taking over the "older" ones. It shows how Ice Dance is evolving and is not just about "priority to the elders", but simply about ART.
 
I think they are already legend (even if they don't win a OGM yet):
because they are the youngest world championship since 50 years.
because we never see a couple win after the 2nd year in senior, who come from nowhere.
because they have already in top 3 score in sd and have the world record in FD.
because in only 3 years they have already 2/3 masterpiece : mozart, build a home, SD waltz.
because everybody is OK that Guillaume is special maybe in top 5 male ice dancer ever.

I hope next year, they don't be injured to see them compete vs V/M and other.

Are they able to make others masterpiece ?
After mozart, I thought it was impossible at least not right away. Because a masterpiece is something uncommon, and they are young. But I was wrong. I prefer build a home to mozart (that I love so much) incredible !!!
Now, I know the answer : it's YES. They can do others masterpiece.

I am sure they are not only legend. If they will no be injured, I think they can be in top 3 of the legend and we are lucky to see live these phenomena, see them grow. :love:

If I'm not mistaken, Tessa and Scott were 19/21 when they won the oylmpic title and Meryl and Charlie were 21/22. Maybe this is the age when the best teams rise. :biggrin:

I'm looking forward to see Gabi and Guillaume competing with Tessa and Scott next season! Imo the French have the first chance, but the battle seems to be very interesting.:hap85:

I checked and Tessa was 20 while Scott was 21 when they won the 2010 Olympics, same age as P/C this year in Boston winning their 2nd World title. Meryl and Charlie won the silver at respectively 23 and 22. They were all young and very talented. In French we have a saying "Valour doesn't await for the number of years" I guess we could say "Talent doesn't await the numbers of years" in this instance.

I think their friendship is quite unique and clearly contributes significantly to their success. Building a success together for a couple is such a big challenge. It's not obvious at all. In the case of Gabriella and Guillaume, I am just thinking of all those years when they were kids then adolescents and now adults. It's hard to imagine. During these years, everything changed deeply: their bodies, their minds, loves, their relatons to others, and so many other things as well.

Even though they have their own private lives outside of the rink, it's so obvious they have a huge commitment to each other. It can't be otherwise. Also the fact they almost never have disputes, max twice a year... Amazing...

In that Paris Match interview, Gabriella explains how they keep their lives really separate outside the rink and I think this is the key of their successful relationship. It also resonates even more with their FD this year. Ice rink is their special home and outside is another life. I wonder if most ice dance teams do the same. They definitely found each other and are complementary in the best way.
BTW, welcome back @alain06fr, it has been a while since your last post. Did you take time to recover from all the emotions experienced in Boston ?
