Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

This is art
I'm so speechless
The way that this FD is build, since the twizzles till the very end just I have no words

I'm afraid that critics will say that they skate to one type of music, but this is beautiful, mature, and CLASSY (VM..ahem). Maybe instead of having the two spin-based (lift, spin) elements for the beginning of the presto, they can have a different special moment for that? Can't wait for the grand prixs
I love you. I think the transition part into the fast movement can be improved. It’s still abrupt right now. But the second part is quite stronger than the first.

I love P/C, I have loved them since Junior Days.

But that is not an unproblematic FD.

Problematic in what way? I feel it's a diamond in the rough for them and a very good showing for how early in the season it is. It's an especially good comparison with the Mozart 3 years back since it shows how much they improved.

The choreography suits the music - beautifully crafted. Choreographic style/touch is so unlike their coaches' (:scratch2:) .... I love the soft touch, the seamless transitions from element to element to interpretative movements, the depth of the interpretation is fantastic, etc. So refreshing.

Once again, there are people on Twitter sending nasty comments to G&G (yes, you read that right, they have the audacity to tag them). Could I please ask something of all of you who have a Twitter account? Could we come together for Gaby and Guillaume and send them some positive messages to support them? Some of the comments people are making about their programs... these comments shouldn't be the first thing they see when they check their mentions on Twitter (at least Gaby sometimes does).

Yes, and also on the youtube video, the V/M fans starting with the thumbs down.

Lovely, exquisite, and what is great is as with the last two years, you kind of feel they are starting off from the place they got to at the end of last year. There are some issues to be resolved- the legs didn't match at the end of the second set of twizzles; Guillaume is pulling focus too much with those down on the knee moments and the drops- Gabi needs a bit more to do balance them out; the last lift isn't enough; I question the two spinning movements together during the presto; and some of the Jeffrey Cirio bits feel like movements for movements sake- I 'm not sure how effectively this dance communicates a narrative like last year's did, and whether more work need to be done make sure all moves fit within a narrative structure. The marvellous bits though- the twizzles to the music, gabi's hand on her heart before the twizzles, the exit from the twizzles, the very ballet influenced exit from the spin/lift, the exit from the spin, though this feels like a repeat of the twizzle exit, the developed difficulty in the position of the curved lift, the retention of connection between them in the straight line lift (which is better than last years), the direction across the ice rink for the diagonal step is better for the judges to be fully aware of both skaters, the ending where genuine emotion is evident, the overall execution which apart from the swizzle legs not matching up was excellent, the musicality of it all, and both step sequences were very good. I loved it, but there is also work.......and it was great first skate. I also wish we had seen it from the judge's side and closer up, because gabby pulls focus with her face; and a lot of the detail is missed (and that might clarify intention over some of the choreography) But overall, a really great outing.

The choreography looks simple but it works!!! What I like about it is the pacing - thoughtfully ... beautifully crafted _ the elements seamlessly woven into the fabric of the dance. It's kinda balletic in style/touch. I don't know how the judges will handle this as this is so different. The dance has a lot of artistic potentials .... Would it be truly competitive? It remains to be seen.

Agreed on those three points

I think the last lift is just a placeholder for now, just like last season. I hope they won't be too dear with some of those Jeffrey Cirio hand movements because there are a couple unnecessary ones for sure.

Agreed on the placeholder comment. I think the last lift changed four times last year? It's a real danger with working with a dancer that there is movement for movement's sake; and without seeing their faces in the last position for example, it's really hard to work out what the intent is. But the fact that they bring all manner of cultural bearing onto what they do is to be applauded: it's not just about skating in the most literal sense for them: it's about everything that skating that can possibly be. However, in this instance, the external influence maybe needs to be a little more worked in.

But (to add) it looks like he has also done some stellar work too; esp in the diagonal step sequence; Gabi's exit from the circular step; and also within one of the transitional sequences too. There are really just two sections where it is perhaps just a little too much.

I really love this dance - a poetry in motion. I love that it makes me less aware of the different elements ... and allows me to just enjoy it for what it is - a beautiful artistic expression.

Indeed typical reaction of scared people realizing the incredible beauty of the Moonlight Sonata program.

I think the best thing to do is to ignore such comments. It's hard but arguing with simple-minded people is useless; it takes so much energy and the result will be the same - they are not going to change their minds. Gabriella and Guillaume are the closest to my heart as I started watching ice dance because of them, but there are/were other incredibly talented and great teams as well. Tessa and Scott are undoubtedly one of these greats and as they seem to be nice people, I truly believe that the majority of their fans are like their idols. And the remaining small bunch of 'fans' with offensive 'arguments' should not be counted.

I have never been particularly enthused with this team's past effort but this dance is just exquisite ... beautiful. I can't wait to see what else they can do to make it more exciting ... more extraordinary. The choreography has a dancer's touch -the optics are simply exquisite.

Why don't you go and read some of my comments in previous dance threads--including this one--before you start slinging insulting phrases like "simple-minded" around. Ad hominem doesn't look good on anyone.

You know what I find simmple-minded? Uncritical fauning bordering on empty flattery. I take P/C as serious dancers, artists AND athletes. Crying "masterpiece" after a single outing of a Free Dance to me is the very epitome of simple minded. First drafts that are perfect are very very rare indeed, almost to the point of being miraculous.

There are moments of this that are brilliant--the entire pesto interlude. And yes, there are problems.

Frankly given the personalized attacks, I save that discussion for more open-minded people.

This FD is art on ice. And what is more important is that they can do even better. I'm curious to see the evolution of this program which can become a true masterpiece in the future.
