Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

this is french humour !!! when we say it'is is white, that is just because we think it is white .. not grey

Look at us, one week without a GP and the drama  I think we are like ice dance addicts who need our fix, not getting it makes us over analyse everything

Personally, I will be SOOOOO happy to see the end of this season and the end of the V/M vs P/C misery.
I can't wait for this whole ridiculousness to be over, and simply have Gaby and Guillaume focus on innovating Ice Dance and exploring new music, rhythms and movements. With only 7 minutes of creative output PER YEAR, there's no second to waste, and I want to see them bring on stuff that will be controversial simply because it is different and new and not because of some silly rivalry.

They need the confidence boost of winning everything this season, because they need to feel free to do their thing, regardless of the points. They need to believe that they can do the same with the SD. They need to get the OG under their belt so they can have the confidence and trust that they are the masters of the field, and can take all the liberty they want to experiment, try, search, reach, explore, stretch, cross limits and take this 'sport' to a different level. I feel that that is what all of their talent culminates in. Creating something this world has never seen before. Risk everything, make mistakes, but pull this thing into a new era.

To give them the reassurance that they have the space to do so, they need to win always.
As I said in my very first post: they are so special that they should always come out on top, even if they each fall three times. I don't care. This is something else, and it needs to be cherished, nourished, cared for and made to bloom no matter what.

Was that a link gone wrong? Can we have the link?

Of course, I should have included it but wanted to stay focus on the point. Here you go, it is a very long, detailed and interesting interview. I wish there would be more like these. I fully agree with you on the ridiculousness of this season and the rivalry. But it did push them to new heights much faster than it would have happened otherwise, so we have this to be thankful for. Last year was an eye opener for them who won everything so fast and so young. As a champion, I think you always need to feel slightly threatened to push yourself. However as you said, after being focused on the chase, gathering titles, they should feel finally completely free to explore even further than what they've done with their FD last year. I wished they had skated the full 4 min on just Oddudua, it would have been glorious. They also mentioned they'd love to skate on silence, that would be stunning, but the rules forbid it.

Alain, you cracked me up with your disclaimers, maybe we should all do it from now on in this tricky season

You are absolutely right. Their technical improvement is so enormous, it is extremely unlikely that they would have worked so hard on that without the push of having to catch up with the level of V/M's extraordinary technical skills.

For me, it is especially this combination of the so totally specific and unique physical abilities that are needed to become a top skater, together with the huge dancing talent of Guillaume and the huge acting talent of Gabriella, together with the talents of Marie-France and Patrice, with the added personalities of Romain and other coaches, all that enormous heap of talent has manifested something fully unique. The fact that at this age, they already are have such a technical skating mastery makes that they have become the only persons (at this moment of course) in the world that can express something that is out of reach for the rest of us. Even if you take the best dancers in the world, they simply have no physical means to copy the routines that Gaby and Guillaume skate. How could they? The main issue is that GabGui can glide, and be in motion without moving. To be able to do this off the ice, you need some kind of harness and cable feature, which will become a total mess once you start spinning.
Most probably, someone will figure out something in the future, but for now, at this moment, Gaby and Guigui are the only ones in the world that can show us what they show us.
That deserves all the support, attention, care etc. we can possibly muster.

Dear god, let nobody throw away any second of recording, because we need to enjoy these programs from all possible angles for years to come.

Does anyone know who the crying woman in the audience is in last year's FD at Euros and Worlds, don't know if she appeared in other competitions as well?

I can hardly imagine that she has not been talked about last year but I have no clue where to find the event forum of last year, if it is still kept somewhere at all.

I didn't mind to see her once, but I must have seen her cry by now hundreds of times, and I'm honestly fed up with her. I wish the camera would stay on GabGui all the time, specifically immediately after skating, even though I understand that the director wants to show the audience's reaction.

If you guys know something about her, something nice, it may help me finding her more sympathetic. By now I'm turning my head when that shot comes, and I feel an urge to start yelling at her. Poor soul.
I'm sure she is a very sweet lady, and she must be a big fan because she was there at at least two competitions. But showing how she cries twice makes her look more like a gimmick than like a genuine reaction from the audience.

And pleaaaase don't let it turn out that she's on this forum. Or that's she's someone's mom here. Or that Alain in fact is that woman. Or something like that, which would make my question extremely painful...

Yes. Although there is new movement and ideas in their free dance, and their approach to the short dance feels fresh and innovative. Plus choosing a piece of music like moonlight sonata is deceptive- because it's a warhorse people think they have seen it so many times before, but it hasn't really been danced to like this in the history of ice dance; and also because choosing a perceived warhorse puts people in a comfort zone watching it, such that you can put in more outre or avant-garde movement without people having the qualms about it they would have if it was actually accompanied by a avant-garde soundtrack, because people's reactions to what they see is often more based on what their reaction to the soundtrack than a real choreogprahic breakdown. I thought the reaction to last year's free dance was a sign from the judges that they were free to go ahead and plough their own furrow, so to speak. But I can also understand why they are fulfilling a four year plan leading up to these Olympics where the free dance consolidates everything they have done over the last three years.

She seems to be genuinely admirative of Gaby and Guillaume and supports them with all her heart.
Seeing them live can be very emotional, I understand her reaction ;-)
Thanks, that's what I was looking for!

DISCLAIMER:
I am not making fun of this lady. I have GabGui's programs on repeat very very very often, and so I saw that moment literally a few hundred times I think. Every time, I am frustrated that the camera goes onto the audience instead of staying with GabGui.
I was convinced that she is a big fan and that her emotions are genuine. I fully understand them. I have cried many many times in front of my screen when watching GabGui. I showed MS to a friend lately, an older man who ended with a tear running down his face that he tried to hide from me. I think that if he had been alone, there would have been many more.
I am very happy to read that she is as annoyed with the maledetta televisione showing her all cracked up as I am by now. Not because I don't understand her or because I don't want to see her emotion, but because the fact that she was so focused on at (at least) two events made it look as if she was more of an advertised emo-moment than a spontaneous reaction. At least after hundred viewings.
I asked for something to make her a genuine person for me again, which was given, and I now can watch her again with different eyes.

I wanted to share this article with you :

http://www.parismatch.com/Actu/Spor...S2-14&utm_source=Twitter&link_time=1512124781

So basically this is relating facts about the "earrings gate" by a French newspaper and so on, nothing new. For me, this is nothing much to care about, because I think this was just a move not thought about by Skate Canada officials, and now, they know it and they won't do it again. That personnally doesn't bother me at all, and since the Games are coming this is a French paper taking on the news maybe to make a case about the off-ice politics. Nothing new, everybody does that, let's not care that much.

However, there is something much more important in the article. This :

Basically, before NHK, David Molina who was on the Tech Panel at NHK received several threat on his social media accounts (Twitter : you can go check they are still there, but I'm sure there might be more that we can't see sent in private messages). V/M fans (or should I say Ubers/freaks) told him to "mark them correctly", "we won't tolerate Bull**** when the Games are so close".

Déposer une main courante = You don't come foward, but you relate facts to the police (I think). This is not considered as a fellony, but if it's too important, it could be AND if it happens again (in an aggraved manner) it could go further. That's what Molina apparently did...

This isn't really P/C related, I know, but I don't think I want to share that in the Ice Dance thread (I should honestly, but I don't want to start a stupid fight, tell me if I should).

Those people are first of all, putting Tessa & Scott in some sort of awful position, because, yes they didn't do anything but not everybody is able to look past that. They are doing them a disservice. They must have already so much pressure on their shoulders (they must have their country's expectations which must be so tough to take) and what those idiots are doing is unfair.
Second, I hope we can all keep our sanity, enjoy the competition (or be nervous as hell which is fine too) and get past the childish fights because it seems that it might get too far if this continues.

The newspaper are already sometimes putting the skaters into uncomfortable situations by relating facts that they don't know about or that the skaters aren't aware of : "earrings as gifts", "political judging", "figure skating is corrupted". This isn't helping the sport at all.

Another funny story from Gadbois. Was talking to Laurence about her free dance dress. Laurence worked together with Guillaume to design it. To proceed, Laurence described in details the dress she had in mind while Guillaume was in charge to draw it and provide advices and suggestions. The outcome of this team work is great and this dress is actually one of the nicest this season imHo.
That dress is sensational. It's magnificent.

Look! I am taking care of some people who may interpret my messages the wrong way ;)
Posting comments in this forum requires a lot of thought :rolleye:

It's actually becoming more challenging than competing at the Olympics

an article on certain behaviors, which gives a very negative image of ice dance:( http://www.leparisien.fr/sports/JO/pyeongchang-2018/patinage-artistique-les-scandales-se-multiplient-a-quelques-semaines-des-jo-01-12-2017-7425825.php
the article talks about threatening messages sent on twitter to Molina (and also the earrings). It's truly sad . (I make clear: Skaters have nothing to do with these behaviors of some fans)

I did not realize that the SD of the final was next Thursday (8:40 pm local time)... it's soon (hopefully I do not work at this time:drama:) and the free dance at 5:55 pm saturday.

I agree with you (how could I disagree, I have really no knowledge of anything skating compared to you). However, that earring gift was extremely blatant and it is totally ridiculous for Skate Canada to claim that it was innocent. Next year, it will be a great and beautiful gift. This year, it's a not subtle move to give Tessa even more presence than she already has. Pretending such a gift has no influence is like pretending that advertisement does not influence anybody. Duh. So even if Tessa was not involved, the people of her fed were, and those are not just random idiotic fans. That's on another level than the twitter nonsense.

On this part of course, I think it's an absolute stupid thing not to have thought about it beforehand. It's putting a bad light on them and worse, on the skaters.
I just don't understand how a couple of earrings can influence someone who might jdge at the Olympics. If it was a bigger/more expensive gift, yes, for sure. But it gives a "legitimate" reason for someone to wonder, whether we like it or not, whether we think it's ridiculous or not.

It's just that I feel the articles incoming, the false accusations and everything... I don't know if you know that, but 4 years ago a french article proclaimed that there was a conspiracy between USA and Russia, to insure Davis/White's victory in Sochi. Of course Canadian press didn't waist a second relaying this article (funny how they were supposed to hate France since 2002 and 12 years later, this happens and everyone is best friend again). And then everyone claims Canada was robbed etc... I don't want a repeat of that. It bothers me that the French press is starting the off-ice war. Because I can feel the "Didier is still the French fed president" coming around February.

Anyway, I don't think we should go on with this subject for too long, it's a Fan thread

Sorry, I did not see your message before posting my previous post.:)

The purpose of a newspaper is to say facts even if they are not glorious : that's not what I find sad, it's the different annoying cases that hurt skaters and ice dance and not press articles.
