Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

Totally agree with what you've said. Such choices are always a challenge. Their Oddudua dance was mesmerizing. And contemporary ballet is something special. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SMmL6kIx-w

I also agree. If they continue going contemporary ballet, I'd love to have it to be Jiri Kylian-inspired.

The dancing without music at the end of this Jiri Kylian is so beautiful:

Note the various pas de deux elements in this Jiri Kylian:

I'd like them to go test different colour. They will always keep their style of skating, but if they could impersonate anger, or fear... I'm actually very eager to see that!
Or if they could refind their edginess with a different choreographer for their free, I wouldn't mind it at all. Carol Lane ?

If they want edginess in their work (I would love that as well!) to depart from their current well-honed fluidity, they could check out this for lots of ideas:

Which styles do you guys think P/C should go for/can pull off in the next four years?
Personally I love their EX this season. And I would to see them do something like that but I’m not sure how well it would work in a FD competitive format.

If the SD theme for next year is tango i would like to see them skating on White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane :)). I think
it will be interesting to see something darker :)) just because their programs have a special intensity that really captures the audience

EDIT : a couple of very intersting things - They were asked : what are your favourites program you've done ?

Gaby : to skate, maybe this year. Guillaume kind of agrees, he said Mozart too.
But to watch, they both said "Build a Home" - it wasn't the easiest to skate though. There is something that came along that was a discovery (the "Build a home moment", I'm sure everyone know what I'm talking about - something that isn't controlled)
Gaby : Also to watch, strangely, the waltz SD. We hated it at first  Well not hated it, no, but because it gave us so much trouble (Guillaume adds : we hated it for a long time because of that ). When I (Gaby) watched, I was like : I like it, not bad !

Also : what are your favourite moments on the ice/in your career ?

Gaby : maybe after the Mozart FD in China (the 1st she thought about) but they are so many, they are all equal.
Guillaume : at the end of the day, probably the trainings, because this is what I'll remember.
------
It's funny how they make it look so easy yet they have so much trouble doing it right at first - testament of the hardwork all the skaters put on the ice. It's nice that they "like" to watch themselves on the ice too (probably not as much as we do but still )

Funnily enough, it was exactly this specific ballet I had in mind. Love the intensity. I wanted to ask them if they gonna refine their FD one more time with Cirio before hitting the last 2 big competitions alas I was to late. There was no time during the GP but now it's time to tune all the details and make the FD even more impactful. Cirio could certainly help.

How great to have so many interviews from them! :yahoo: Thank you everyone for all links and especially translations, i cannot imagine how much time it takes, i am really very very greatful to you all.
Gabriella and Guillaume look very good on all those videos, they are beautiful, confident, calm and relaxed. I hope they are not too exhausted and have some time to rest before Nationals.

And hello and welcome to new members, post often and express your love for our favourite ice dancers, do not be silent like me! :)

My French is not very good(as well as my English), do i understand it correct that Gabriella's mother said " You often complain that I am more coach than mother, but I do not regret anything, it's the best present I could give to you". Something like that?

Yes indeed. Mark Hanretty said one day he thought Gaby's mum had a big influence on their knee bend and glide quality. She might have been a demanding coach but selfishly, I'm grateful to her to have push those two and have been instrumental in pairing them up together. Strike of genius Madame, merci

I really am hoping they could do this with Cirio before the Olympic Games ...

I am greatful to her too. :) And I remember Martin Scotnitsky (sorry if i misspelled his name) said in one interview about her big input in P/C's success, how she regularly visited various training camps to learn new things and always asked judges and other coaches what they want to see in ice dance and what PC need to improve to be on the top.

For me : it was more : you often complained ... as in the past when her mother was their coach ... probably the reason why to go to romain who was more acting as a consultant coach before. They ned (to need, ned ned Ok ?) to change location in order to Guillaume 's school and they choose to go to lyon where Romain used to coach along with muriel ZaZoui a this time. I remember reading an interview from Gabriella (Paris match where there was Gabriella as an angel .. where they were some words about this ..)
And there Gabby told that now she can talk a lot with a mother about skating becauxe now her mother has the knowledge about any king of difficulty they can encounter in their skating live

Frustration galore: I'm getting sick, have a lot of work, and my computer is falling apart. Hardly able to see anything, :hpull::hpull::hpull::hpull:

They've done a radio show called Super Moscato Show I searched but couldn't find the whole interview yet. Here is a snippet with a bit of fun: https://twitter.com/hashtag/LaFameuseQuestionChelouDeMoscato?src=hash&lang=en
The guys were asking about the meaning of a record in skating, so Guillaume was just explaining it's not as meaningful because the point system constantly evolves and their record is only valid within to the two last seasons, it's mainly a personal record. The other guy then ask a silly question: when you go back to the locker room and take off your skates, are the skates aware of the world record ???? ahahahaha giggles giggles giggles. Then someone ask if they can communicate while performing like talking or having some kind of signing language. But they can't, then Guillaume goes on saying they already don't talk to each other outside the rink so ....

Quick overview because there's not much new except for the first question, very direct and many are thinking about this elephant in the room so the funny guy with the southern accent and the big voice just went ahead and asked it. Does reputation help in the notation ? He says that know they beat the Canadians, it might play in their favor in the notation but Guillaume says not that much because the system has changed so that they need to be absolutely flawless in their technique and interpretation to get the points. He acknowledges there is a grey zone but not as wide as people might think. Their job is then to deliver the most flawless performance to reduce this grey zone to a minimum.
Otherwise they're asked about the Olympics of course, do they feel to closer to the Oly Gold. She says yes, they feel good and on the right path.
Remind us about the SD and FD portion of the competition and how it was important to beat the Canadians in the short for the first time. She does say SD was not their forte but they worked really hard to catch up. They learnt a lot from last year so this competition proved they're able and on the right path.
Guillaume says it's a real mental game, so yes a victory here is important. The big guy asks yet another interesting question  do you do like the parachutists and mime your choreography in your room ? Gaby says they do it in the back room where they rehearse it on the floor.
Can you still improve those big scores ? Guillaume says of course, they need to work on all those little details to reach the next level.
They will have a small break during the end of year festivities but not relax too much. Then they ask if in this sport they have to be careful of their weight. Gaby answers they're both blessed with a good metabolism. So no, they don't pay attention to which Guillaume adds they do so much sports anyway, it's not easy to fatten up really.
Do you approach the Oly like any other competitions? Are you gonna protect yourself from the media for instance ? Guillaume says living abroad in Montreal is already a way to be quite out of the media's reach. But just before the games they will try to stay away.
Last, a question about their relation with V/M especially after this win in the GPF to which Guillaume jokes around saying they're get along better and better as a result  Gaby says this victory will not change much even though there's always a bit of tension. The big guy jokes around regretting the days of yore when there was baseball bat attacks in the knees, what has this sport come to ? ahahahahaha They don't share the ice so much but when they cross path they're friendly being able to put aside the competition mindset. To which the interviewer adds" so you're friendly but you don't go and have dinner together" Guillaume answers something funny I can't totally translate but it goes sg like this "well no, we're not going to out to eat fish dumpling on the weekend" the odd choice of fish dumpling cracks up everyone (including me tbh)

Thank you so much for the translation!!! I am really sorry for them for not even talking to each other outside the rink…it doesn’t sound good I think!!! Because after so many years it looks weird!!

Gaby and Guillaume already spend more time together than with anyone else. They've always been very open about the fact that they don't need to spend even more time together in their spare time, they need space away from each other in order for their connection on ice to work. No surprise here, really. And not weird at all, since they aren't a couple off ice.

That's a great question. There's still a pink elephant in the room left though. I do think it would help a lot with the other delicate question and get some of that stuff out of the way for good. But I won't push, each in their own time, but boy, patience really never was my forte! :o:

No no, Guillaume was joking really. He's very cheeky in this interview and from the tone you could see it was just having fun. OTOH they did say they don't hang around together much because a) they train so much they don't have much time anyway and b) they spend so much time together they need their breathing space.
