Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

D/L's school didn't have much success before Dubreuil decided to steal Haguenauer from Muriel Zazoui. And Haguenauer brought them P/C.
They did not steal anything. Didier was burrying Zazoui's school it was in the newspaper even P/C refused to move on his demands because Romain was still in Lyon. At that time, it was the perfect opportunity for Romain to leave Lyon to avoid all that mess, and like P/C said 100 times : "We're so loyal to him, we followed him". Nobody stole anybody. It was perfect timing and look where it got them.
I'm not debating this any longer, this is a Fan thread, and if anything were to happen, so it be, but I am not making any conspiracy theories because that does not belong in this Fan thread, we prefer to trust the skating (and not make excuses). The SD is in 4 days so let's cheer on all the teams we like

I agree with Anyasnake - if anyone wants to debate Dubreuil and Lauzon as coaches, go create a separate thread in The Edge forum to take the discussion over there. This is not the place for it.

Thanks but the site will still not load for me. I'm starting to wonder if there's some kind of a boycott of Southern India going on. I am unable to load about every video posted on this forum if it's not YT.

I send you a private message

Just making a comparison between the Mist from V/M's free particularly as it has a number of turns at the end of it, with Papadakis and Cizeron's Dist from last year (as recorded at practice). Because the music is similar and the direction across the ice similar and there is some parallel between the choreography it makes a very interesting compare and and contrast exercise.

Their FD last year has held up beautifully. The complexity of it and the ease of its execution is even more striking during rewatch.

Only wish the camera angle in Helsinki hadn't been that awful.

Can you give us a bit more details on your observations ? I'm curious. Also are you using the last outing of V/M's FD at the team event ?

This was filmed during the summer btw ;)

First of all, Big ... Big thanks to Anyasnake for this link to this GREAT video. :agree:

This video was recorded on August 29 by NBC. It was partly recorded in the old city of Montréal, next to the harbour and the Saint-Laurent and partly in Guillaume's apartment.

Before moving to Montréal, Gaby and Guillaume used to share their time between ice dance and their studies, literature for Gaby and Beaux-Arts for Guillaume. As Guillaume's mother pointed out in a recent interview, the 2013/14 season was really a turning point as it became obvious it was no longer possible to continue that way. G&G had to make a choice: studies or figure skating.
The Montréal project helped them to take the decision to focus 100% on ice dance. When they arrived in Montréal, they were far away from their families and from their friends. It was somehow the best situation to devote their time for the 2014/15 season. Guillaume is of course so right when he says "there was no magic recipe". In fact, they worked and worked and worked... and all this work and commitment payed off. So yes, their meteoric rise was by no means fortuitous! I am so happy Gaby and moreover Guillaume are not as shy as they used to be and share their history with us. Their story and the way they owe their success to the sweat of their forehead is now part of ice dance history. And it's such a nice story... Really....

oakandbirch, as I understand, you think D/L may have favoured V/M more than P/C but I don't think this is true. You may find it weird but I am 100% sure Marie-France and Patrice have a lot (and really a lot) of affection for Gaby and Guillaume. They love them. Well.... Gaby and Guillaume are just great people (and I am talking here about their personalities not about the talented ice dancers). Anyone who meets them - and understand who they are - can just fall in love with this amazing couple.
Second, Gaby & Guillaume are probably the best you can expect from highly talented and highly skilled skaters: hard workers with a unique connection. Both are easy to coach (Marie-France said that many times) ... as long as their coaches set very ambitious goals, meaning their coaches implement ambitious means to achieve these objectives. And I am convinced that Marie-France and Patrice enjoy to be challenged by Gaby and Guillaume while challenging them! It's a win/win relationship with interaction on both sides and in both directions. Listen carefully to what Marie-France says about Gaby and Guillaume, she brought a lot to them but she learned a lot from them. Coaching highly talented skaters who have huge expectations from you is a challenge. It's actually a challenge for the whole team, skaters and coaches included.
Gabriella and Guillaume’s meteoric rise is for ever linked to the success of the Gadbois team... and the meteoric rise of the Gadbois team is for ever linked to the success of Gaby and Guillaume. One should never forget that.

We all saw what it looks like when a team is unable to trust their coaching team -- back then Tessa and Scott were drained and desperate way before they even got to Sochi. Gabi and Guillaume are actually skating with a RENEWED confidence after last season. Is that the behavior of a betrayed team? Personally I will always trust and respect Marie-France after the way she handled Gabi's concussion. The lack of respect for injuries in this sport can be depressing sometimes and is often encouraged by coaches.

edit- A sidenote: a Christopher Dean program just won the gold :coffee:

Ok, they have finally arrived! I saw them cheering for Eric and Meagan at the Pairs FS.

I saw Romain from the audience after Bruno and Aljona performed (I am very happy for Aljona's gold! They deserved it after that magical performance), I but did not see Gabby and Guillaume.

I adore this! Sometimes I think we forget that the skating community is very small (because we're so committed to our favorites :luv17:,) so there is a great deal of respect between all skaters regardless of nationality. (It probably helps that they all train in Montreal.) This makes me all warm and fuzzy!

Gotta say, I'm gonna miss the tank top.... :slink:

Me too ! Well, Olympics are a different story everyone is watching (though the V-neck compensate but not as much haha) :laugh2:
OTOH, we'll see the lines even more (if that's possible) so a big big plus ;)

I was watching the Pairs FS earlier this morning on Eurosport as well, and saw Gaby and Guillaume at the bottom left corner of my screen. Nice to see that they were caught by the arena cam among the other Canadian supporters, their coaches and their mental coach as well. There was some great skating in the FS so I'm glad they're settling in by watching that. And it just feels so nice to be seeing them again after some kind of social media drought as they closed in on their training right before flying over to Korea but now we finally have that long awaited NBC fluff piece and that French news piece so yay :)

Also, I didn't know this earlier but Roast Toast is right, Bruno and Aljona's FS was choreographed by Christopher Dean. He's very, very good indeed. Can't wait to see how his choreography gets owned once again with G&G :)

Guillaume sat close to M-F and Gabby to Romain. You can spot two navy blue dots among the Canadian red uniforms. After the performance of Duhamel and Radford for example. :)

Jackie Wong posted a picture from G&G's SD practice! :hap10:

LOL, that's a very Latin-ballroom look for Guillaume. Somebody making a point?

It's hard to tell because the picture is in black and white, but it looks like there might have been some changes to Gabi's outfit too? More spangles in the midriff area perhaps? (As if that outfit needed more spangles...)

An article from a French magazine (yes, there is an error ... a little mixture ... I let you find it:laugh:).

For Romain, Gabriella has the talent of an actress
For Gabriella and Guillaume, Romain "is much more than their coach, it's their mentor, their agent and sometimes even their father." They trust him absolutely.
I stop there for the summary in English ... :scratch2:

Interesting to learn that Marie-France used to skate with Fabian Bourzat
