Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

How can they be so unprepared?
The Finnstep, the twizzles and the lift were SO messy! When was the last time we've seen them that...cringy? They really need to rework on that choreo, which is a total fail for me. Even the transitions, which are usually their forte, are bad... Yes they have great speed, but that's pretty much it for now. Irrelevant scores, as we could expect.
Hopefully the FD looks more finished, 'cause the Russian are right around the corner. Now I'm scared...

I think this is the usual level of preparedness they've always been this early tbh...? Go back and watch Challenger Moonlight Sonata, it's an almost entirely different program. Their first international assignment is in 5 weeks! I really think all the problems you've mentioned are simply caused by a lack of runthroughs, which is the easiest thing to remediate. I'm just so happy the program is fun!

Already rewatched it and that warm up section will quickly become my favorite thing ever. So much fun and attitude, plus right on the beat none of that guessing game like last year's Tango pattern. Once they put the heavy work, cause there is indeed lots to fix, it will be so fun.

question: are these their costumes. I know they often (nearly always...)change them during season. I love the concept and tailoring but I would love them to add some neon. my goodness I would have never thought I would ever, ever ask for neon or at least for more color... but this time....

I must say that I have hardly seen anything that I liked in the RD so far. Of course, as always, I'm worthless in the technical department, so I go by what the skaters give as atmosphere and overall entertainment or art. What is moving, gripping - for whatever reason? Not that I can't figure out when stuff is sloppy.

Yes this was a bit sloppy, but so what? Was this for any big prize? Not at all, no? Any reason why it should already be perfect?
There's no need to be scared, they will nail this as well as their Tango. Give them some time. They probably spent a lot of time on their FD, since it's such a special creation. This RD will also stand out a lot. Have you looked at the other things? Rather a bit boring, no? This was great. Only thing I regret is the very slow middle part. Just get the fast guns out all the time as far as I'm concerned. If they would cut the slow intro to Irene Cara, I would be even more happy. But that's all I could criticise.

Remember that this is not 'them' at all. The tango fitted them like a glove, this is a different thing altogether. They don't feel naturally comfortable in this, it's something new and they need some time to make it 'theirs'. It needs to grow on them, and they need to grow in it. That will surely happen, you can see that from afar.
This is going to be FUN FUN FUN. Can't wait for the Grand Prix!

According to that article in l'Equipe that I couldn't read (but maybe now I can!), these are not the costumes.

(EDIT: getting lost in all the info we got today, that article isn't geo-blocked but behind a pay-wall)

Nope, those were just practice clothes! Although I think we can expect the hair and — maybe — the bandana to stay. The article does jokingly mention "fluo" for the actual costumes, so you may very well get your wish :agree:

Upon rewatching, I think it was Guillaume who messed up his twizzles a bit. Gabi's looked good. Have to note their legendary ice coverage. When watching the live stream, all the previous teams made me think this was an oversized rink. Huge. But then they came on and I was like, oh this is a normal sized rink after all.

I agree, this is the most un-boring RD I've seen so far. I do think the Russians have a very polished and lovely RD but this program just makes you want to dance with them, which I think would make a rather distinct impression on the judges when in competition.

No, they mentioned in an article that the costumes for this program aren't quite ready yet, so they were wearing practice gear instead.

Re. the performance being a bit sloppy - I think the thing that confuses people about the Masters is the fact that scores are given. Even though some of these skaters have already competed internationally by now, the event is more like the Russian test skates: for internal assessment, feedback and assignment purposes. And schmoozing sponsors, off-ice, of course. The skaters aren't expected to be foot-perfect yet and the placements matter more than the scores.

This is Gabi and Guillaume's equivalent of an early Challenger or Senior B; they're here to run the programs in a low-stress environment, get feedback and go into the final polish phase before their first GP. Being too polished at this stage would actually make that task harder, I think.

thank you- I thought for a first showing it was quite good. Guillaume losing balance and therefor not completing the turn at the first set of twizzles is a fault that sometimes happens in any team. the mid steps seemed quite sharp to me, good edges. just a small balance check at the double twizzle at the end. now they have 5 weeks to do the polishing. this is quite a lot of time to get it clean.

Thanks a lot!
I have to confess that, at the beginning I was thinking "this looks like an aerobic class waiting for superjavi…" but when the Fame tune begins, it transports me to those days watching the original TV serie in an awe :luv17:
I know that by the end of the season, I will love it, as always.

That's exactly what I thought at the beginning! SuperJavi!

I can't access the new L'Equipe article but from twitter screencaps I gather Romain says the RD is at about 30% and Gabi explains they had 10 days of full runthroughs versus 3 weeks for usual int competitions, which makes sense to me :agree: Can't wait to see the free — the new straight line lift looks great.
