for Tim. Hopefully he'll be ready for Nationals, which is probably his focus now. Too bad that Brian couldn't make it ('due to time constraints' from the Skate Canada article), but shouldn't he have been ready as the 1st alternate? Well, we'll see what Sandhu can do here, it should be very interesting.

As much as I like Sandhu, I am sorry to see this. It looks to me like nobody cares enough about the Grand Prix final to even want to show up. Even with "boot problems" Tim could make the effort if it meant anything to him. Same with Brian -- if he cared anthing about the competition he would come. This is a sad commentary on the whole Grand Prix, to me.

Perhaps Tim doesn't want to go to a competition he knows he probably won't win, given the many problems he's had this season (boots, jumps). With Nationals and Worlds just around the corner, perhaps it's a wise decision. Anyhow, I'm just guessing.

PS. I think Tim did the right thing. He's having problems and a trip to Far East is quite a trek, and US Nats are not far behind. Better he qualify for Worlds.

Tim needs to concentrate on getting his equipment problems resolved PDQ. Although he won gold and silver in the GP with his jumps not under control, the cheesefest skate was a disaster.
I don't think he has to worry that much about not making the World Team. The USFSA has been known to prop up its champions even when they don't skate well (Weiss, 2002 and 2003 US Championships), and Tim is an Olympic and World medalwinner.
What he DOES have to worry about is getting his programs in competitive shape for Worlds, and he really can't do that with unreliable equipment.

I admit I had my reservations when I read the article about Tim dropping out of the GPF. But remember what happened to Yoshie Onda last year when she tried to break into a pair of new boots? Ankle injury right through Worlds '03. I think Goebel is trying to avoid another injury. He already had a hip injury last year, I don't think he wants an ankle injury for Christmas.

In all fairness to Brian, he did get the invite on very short notice, and he'd have to travel from France. For Sandhu, it's a much shorter trip. Since it was such short notice, it would make sense that Brian wouldn't want to come.

But I am still disappointed. Why go through the charade of competing in the Grand Prix events, then skip the final because of equipment problems or because it is not convenient to your schedule? Skip the whole GP and let someone else compete who wants it.
