GPs being shown on Eurosport

I've been extremely slow on the uptake but my sister rang me last night to inform me she was watching skating on Eurosport last night. Imagine my surprise when i saw it was the FD from Skate Canada.

Having checked the listings most of the SPs and LPs (and the CD) from Cup of China will be shown live, with anything not being shown live appearing later on at night.

Having not shown the GPs for a number of years i had stopped even checking to see if they would be shown!

Ant, I'm so sorry you didn't notice my post about this before - you could have seen most of SC as well... Eurosport will be showing at least part of every GP event this season. Very cool of them!

I love it too! They aren't always the most knowledgable, but most of the times they manage to find nice things to say about every skater. Also, they know when to shut it and let the audience just enjoy the skating.

I must say I'm very excited. I live in Hong Kong and last season, the only coverage we got was the US Nationals on ESPN. First played in this September. Imagine my surprise and excitement to find that they're actually broadcasting live skating in Hong Kong on Eurosport. FS isn't very popular here at all, but I really appreciate that they're playing it. Now that I've actually watched live coverage, I really understand how much better it is than internet feeds and YouTube videos. Looking foward to CoC this weekend!

Oh, please do so! I am a big, big fan and I know that there are so many other ppl who love them.

Just listening to their commentary, I could see how much they love the sport. They are not too obsessed with the final result, but appreciate the beauty of skating. Especially, they have a lot of nice things to say about the skaters who have good basics and good programs with beautiful choreos.

They are also always very classy in their comments. They are always very kind and gentlemanlike. They are sympathetic to those who failed and give the greatest compliments to those who did well. I also like them for being modest and reserved. They know when to be quiet and don't try to be argumentative or impose their own theories to the audience. Finally, I love their calm voices and sophisticated language. They are very comfortable to listen to.

I am sorry that I cannot understand other languages in Eurosport (but I know that French commentary is very funny (I read translation before)!).

Seeing Youtube clips with other announcers has made me appreciate the Eurosport team even more! They're wonderful at explaining the rules and the action without making it into a technical manual. When they disagree with a decision, it's not turned into proof of some giant conspiracy. They're gracious about the skaters, including those who are less accomplished and well-known. And they know when to shut up and let the viewers enjoy a program.

I have to say that my favourite commentary is from Robin Cousins and Barry Davies on the BBC mostly because Barry doesn't know a lot and stays very quiet throughout and Robin specifically only opints out elements and leavs his commentary to the replays and the K&C. When worlds and Europeans is on it's always a pleasure to hear what Robin thinks of the programs, though he can sometimes be a little biased.

After them though Nicky, Chris and Simone all do a great job on Eurosport with their commentating. I like the way that Chris and Nicky often rib each other about things. And also so their "set phrases" like, i don't think i've heard Chris ever start his commentary on any event (and that includes British Nationals when he announces there) without saying something about the event being a "real humdinger of a competition"! I think they're great!

:thumbsup: This is so great! When I realised they were broadcasting I couldn't believe what I saw! Sometimes they didn't even show every segment of worlds, but now even GPs! So looking forward to Cup of China!
Agree about Nicky and Chris, there is no worse than a skate that you can't enjoy due to a commentator who doesn't stop talking!

I have never read an unfavorable comment on those Eurosport guys. I love them too. Very classy and unbiased.

Once there was even a thread called something like, Who are those wonderful Eurosport guys? No one knew their names! Talk about low-key.
