Gracie Gold's prospects for 2018 season?

As promised earlier in the thread: Here's my first part of the report on Gracie at Sun Valley.

Pro practice and show practice has been over for about a half hour now. From what I could see when I wasn't busy, she mostly ran choreography (which looked like she was having a hard time remembering), and practiced spins. She mostly did single jumps, waltz jumps and one or two badly UR doubles.

She wore all black with a oversized sweatshirt for 99% of the practice.

Will try to report later after the show.

Actually... There's footage of Gracie doing axel half loop sal THE OTHER way... and it was clean, I think you were mistaken.https://www.instagram.com/p/BYRYkFNnCqq/?taken-by=superangiekatja

So I had to go look into that persons account... if you were to delve deeper you will see what I was talking about from practice account earlier...:sarcasm:

Here is her and Ryan earlier doing SBS "lefty" jumps (she ended up doing one later by herself which you posted earlier, Ryan was at the boards at the time): https://www.instagram.com/p/BYRKsNWnQAj/?taken-by=superangiekatja

Here is one of her show run throughs: Single/Double jumps. https://www.instagram.com/p/BYRI8DlHYDU/?taken-by=superangiekatja

:rolleye: I don't have to come on and give first hand accounts of anything. I did so for the few here that actually appreciate it.
If it's so much of a problem then forget about any further accounts of Gracie today. I'll leave people to their delusions.

I love how quickly people are assuming that just because Gracie did a couple of singles and doubles in the practice warmup that's all she can do...

I can't speak for everyone but I think they're just eager to see evidence to the contrary. It's been quite a while since I've seen video of her doing triples so it's hard not to lose hope a little.

Ic3Rabbit, please add me to the list of people who have been very interested to read your reports and greatly appreciate your taking the time to post. I hope you will reconsider and give us another update after the show tonight.

I would also be interested in a report from tonight. I appreciate you taking the time out to do so, especially when you're getting some heat for being the bearer of some possibly bad news.

Just unlurking to say that I very much appreciate your posts about Gracie. It's clear now why Lynn Rutherford did not sound optimistic about her in that podcast she did for IceNetwork. I have no idea what's going on with her but she does not look at all ready for elite competition.

Whether or not Gracie can eke out a triple toe isn't the point. She's scheduled for Ondrej Nepala which begins on Sep 21 so it's kind of hard to see how she can ready for that.

Ic3Rabbit, You're the only poster who has any semblance of how Gracie is looking. Without you, we'd all be completely in the dark. Please don't stop posting your reports. Trust me, if Gracie skates well, we want to hear that too. However, I'd rather hear the truth than be shocked like I was over her Summer performances.

Thank you to Ic3Rabbit for posting the updates. I wish I saw anything to be positive about here. It's really hard to speculate about what's going on here, but I have to think Gracie's chances of turning in a successful season are very slim. If there was a chance that she would pull out of the funk she was in last year, there should have been a very considerable effort here. Hours and hours of nose to the grindstone work, and maybe a few updates here and there for her fans. I'm just not seeing that any of that is happening.
She's had some brilliant moments, for sure. And her accomplishments are nothing to sneeze at. I just truly hope at this point that Gracie the person finds what she loves and we see more from her either in competition or elsewhere.

I agree with mrrice, and I'd rather hear an honest and non-candycoated report. So thanks IceRabbit. And if she's hitting 3z-3t's all over the ice I'd be pleased to read that too. But it's always better to be prepared for a disaster.

Am I the only one who thinks that Gracie was given Nepala in a few weeks to test her out? And that if she bombs she will be dropped from the GP? I'd rather see more deserving skaters like Hicks get some GPs since she's been putting in the work this summer.

Nobody can "drop" Gracie from the GP at this point. The only way she doesn't go to GPs is if she withdraws.

That's an interesting theory. Are they allowed to drop a skater at the last minute and replace them with someone from the same country?

No.

And if Gracie withdraws, the USFS don't get to decide who replaces her. The host country does. Which means it may not be another American at all.

I guess I wasn't being literal in that she would be dropped from the GP, but maybe that she would be 'encouraged' to drop out by USFS so as not to humiliate herself more.

This is true, there is already a list of skaters who are alternates for each event and if Gracie were to withdraw, I believe the show host gets to pick her replacement.
