Grand Prix Speculation 2015-2016

Ihey, broad more jump, the new version, is coming soon.Lake Placid IDC starts about July 30th. Glacier Falls and Liberty and Thornhill and Skate Detroit and the BC and Quebec summer comps and Indy Pairs and Cranberry Open will be here before we know it!

Is it confirmed that Skate America will be in Milwaukee? And really hope Yuzu, Max A, Ashley, Gracie, Julia, and Jason is at SA!!:cheer::dance:

I doubt the USFS wants to put Ashley against Gracie at SA. They want both of them to make the GPF so Ashley will most likely get SA and Gracie will go elsewhere to increase the odds of both of them making the GPF again.

Agreed, just like this past season. With Ashley as US champion, and Gracie having got SA last year, Ashley should be getting SA.

Can Skate America have both Ashley and Gracie? Isn't each event guaranteed to have exactly one of Gold, Wagner and Hongo, as well as exactly one of Tuktamysheva, Miyahara, and Radionova?

In theory, you could pick Gracie or Wagner as a host pick and then pick the other as a 4-6 Worlds pick, IIRC. I believe that is probably how they managed to have Yuzuru and Daisuke at 2012 NHK Trophy (Yuzuru finished 3rd at the previous Worlds, Takahashi 2nd).

Did that mean that one of the GP events did not have a top three competitor?

yeah basically Japan and France made a little deal and traded Yuzuru who was 3rd at worlds and originally assigned TEB and Brian who was 4th and originally assigned NHK.
The reason was that NHK was held in Sendai that year and it was Yuzu's home town and not a long time after the tsunami so it was really a wish of both Yuzu and his fed that he'd be able to compete there. ISU said ok under the particular circumstances and France was accommodating. Beyond that, I am also sure both France and Japan were happy to have their two stars respectively Yuzu and Daisuke and Brian and Florent at their home event.

I doubt if JSF / other fed would do that kind of trade again...
If my memory wasn't lying, Dai qualified GPF with 2 silvers that season, which wasn't a very safe play I'd say...

yeah no I really think it was a one of. Kind of a gift to Yuzuru to be able to compete in front of his public given the trauma of the tsunami and the destruction of the rink etc. I don't think fed want their best skaters to go head to head and take the risk to eliminate each other for the GPF. ISU wouldn't also allow these kind of trades without really special circumstances like it was for that year

I'd want both France and Japan as my events every year. Those other countries are icky/boring. ;)

The first JGP starts August 19th, but the ISU starts releasing the rosters for the JGPs about 28 days ahead of time. We should start to see a weekly roster starting around the 20th of July.

And let's not forget about the summer comps---some of the big ones start off towards the end of June.

This is going to sound stupid considering that I have all the JGPs written up in my planner, but which comps are in June? I didn't see those when I was looking for season schedules online.

The Broadmoor Open, for one, will be in June.

Last year's Summer 2014 subforum will give you an idea of other summer comps.

Obviously, the 2015 dates will not be exactly the same.

The threads in the Summer 2014 subforum are mostly for North American comps. Don't know whether 2014 summer comps in other countries were "hiding" elsewhere on GS (b/c of placement by the OP).

How do we find which skaters are competing at the Broadmoor open?

We don't usually find out until much closer to the event, usually during the week before. Sometimes there are rumours, and the ever-knowledgeable Sylvia always has the latest news. But entry-lists into such events can be fickle for the top-level skaters. For example, Max was supposed to skate at Vail last year, and didn't.

Jason has done the Broadmoor Open for the last two years, which is usually when we see the debuts of his new programs. I would not be at all surprised if we saw him there this year. Joshua prefers the Vail Invitational (which he has also done for the last two years), a much smaller event from which we almost never see video or even get results.

Since Tom Zakrasjek is one of the major movers and shakers behind the Broadmoor Open's revamped jump event, and there's prize-money on offer, I wouldn't be surprised to see Max pop up at that event (though maybe not to compete his programs, but you never know). Actually, I'm rather hoping that quite a few of the top guys will show up for this new event. The Broadmoor Open usually has a stream available for a very reasonable price and you can access the video for a year afterwards.
