I'm seeing daytime family events here in Virginia called Noon Year's Day, but they seem to feature plain ol' balloons dropped at the stroke of noon, not that bodacious peep! Very cute!

No, the drop is geared to young children and I'm not young enough at heart.
I must admit, I am a bad Bethl'emite. The Peeps factory (they make Mike and Ike's too, for those of us who remember old candies) is three miles from my house. But I do. not. like. Peeps. A Peep dropping for New Years. though, that's cool.

Gate of Living is a program about the "Three Poisons" in Buddhism, represented as a snake (for ill-will), a rooster (for greed) and a pig (for ignorance), his costume reflecting the two first, it starts in about 25 minutes:
