If not, think about whether you would want to see it.

There are enough gory scenes in it to make you ill.

The film is shot in the Tim Burton style of never show a sunny day.

You will want to forget it when it ends.

However -

It is a good ghoulish picture and somewhat different than the stage presentation. The movie goes into showing how Sweeney got that way so for a third of the movie, there is no real gore.

All actors are perfect in their roles;

I thought Helena Bonham Carter was stupendous. So complex of a women
Johnny was just driven but he did it well

Don't eat before you see it, and afterwards, you will never eat meat pies.

No, but I saw Atonement and it was a very moving movie - need at least three tissues by the end. Acting is superb and the cinemaphotography as well.

I am not sure I want to see Burton's new flick...sounds gory....

If you don't see it, you will miss Miss Lovette swatting all those roaches as she fills up the meat pies. And that's not among the gory scenes.

No way.......Hubby wants to but he'll have to go by himself. We saw the new "National Treasure" last night. Not a deep movie, but lots of fun.....42

I saw Sweeney last night....LOVED IT!! Beautiful score, art direction, cinematography, costumes.....did I mention the music? Yes, most of it is shot in the "dark" style of Tim Burton...but it also shows brilliant bright colors contrasting the past to present... YES, it is alittle "gory" and the blood itself should be in the character credits....but you also have to understand the story of Sweeney Todd... I see this movie getting several Oscar noms this year.. I thought Sacha Baron Cohn (Borat) was great and added a lot of humor to this horror/musical.. Of course, I have always loved Johnny and Helen Bonham Carter.. I'm getting the soundtrack for sure!!!!

Big Fish had sunny scenes and was sunny in the end ;) my all time favorite of his, and one of my all time favorite movies

Lad - you should start another thread for Atonement because I want to see it but I need to know a bit more about it :)

Actually, there isn't a Tim Burton film that I haven't liked... He is such a creative genious and is WAY over due for a Oscar for director.. Big Fish was one of my fav films that year... Of course, it all started with Beattle Juice, Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Xmas, etc.. Sleepy Hollow, Ed Wood and of course Pirates "Dead Mans Chest"...all great films...

I saw it yesterday. I was actually expecting more gore. Other than the blood, I liked it very much. Depp and Bonham Carter did great jobs with their roles. While Depp's character wasn't likable, I really felt for him and his predicament.

I was impressed with all of the singing. For Depp, it must have been difficult to sing with a British accent.

I did find the ending a bit abrupt. There were parts of the story line that weren't completely sewn up in my opinion, but I don't want to include any spoilers.

I was left hangin at the end also... I wanted to know what happened to Johanna and Anthony....but I found it satisfying visually how Toby gets his revenge...I was really impressed by the young people who played these characters (Ant, Johanna and Toby).. They had wonderful voices..

Who directed the dark Batmans? Did Burton do one?

Burton directed Batman - 1989 and Batman Returns - 1992.

Joel Schumacher directed Batman Forever - 1995 and Batman and Robin - 1997

Christopher Nolan directed Batman Begins - 2005

Burton directed the first two Batmans. Joel Schumacher did the 3rd and 4th. Christopher Nolan did the most recent incarnation.
