2025 World Junior Championships Men's FS

I am.

What I saw from the junior men looked more like Shoma "exhaustion" than Ilia "exhaustion".

Not that it matters a hill of beans one way or the other. Except that Ilia wasn't starting no trends. In this, at least :)

I don't know if Rio was asked here, but when he starfished at JGP Wuxi, he mentioned doing it since "Ilia did it last year." Flopping to the ice after a great skate didn't start with Ilia, but it does seem to be a bit of a trend for the men. I recall Shaidorov flopping down last week after his great skate.

I haven't had time to watch the FS yet, but I'm very happy for Rio. I seriously think he's a star, and I cannot wait to watch him in seniors. I have big predictions for his career.

Rio didn't even skate a clean FS program at JGP Wuxi, nor did he skate a clean FS program here at Jr. Worlds. As someone who is not a fan of Ilia's skating, it is fitting that I make the following comment which will be free of bias. At 2024 Worlds, Ilia did what no man had ever done: He skated a clean 6-quad program which means he did so with positive GOE on every jump and in many cases not just positive GOE, but with excellent GOE. It was a WR.

THAT was definitely worth falling to the ice for. He made history.

Having said all that, if you click the link you provided, Rio makes it sound like he should fall to the ice like Ilia, just to be cool — but without doing anything outstanding to justify it. That I cannot accept. Further, at this event, Rio started his drama display on the ice (face down) before the last skater even came out. To be frank, Rio got quite a few choice words from me. But they can't be posted. Sportsmanship shouldn't be an afterthought if you're in a sport, it should be ever-present in the human psyche.

Rio has to stay in juniors - he's currently 16 and his birthday is in September which means he's not yet senior-eligible next season.
Yes, a month or so older than Mao Shimada and both unlucky to have to wait a further 4 years for the chance to go to the Olympics.
Still, the rivalry with Minkyu, Sena and Yanhao in juniors should be pretty exciting. :hap10:

I’m not sure there was much in that for a Japanese teenager to relate to.

Not familiar with this skater, but he reminds me a bit of Sota Yamamoto, in a good way
Shunsuke totally reminds me of Sota! I’ve noticed it, forgotten about it, and re-noticed it multiple times. It’s fine since I like Sota.
