Hey Kwan fans!

Kwan now, Kwan forever!!!

We are still here!!

Kwan did wonderfully at wolds LOOK at her SP!!! I think that was one of her better short programs ever!! I don't care about the .1 dedution or the marks, look at her flip exit, look at her footwork, look at the energy she gave that final combo spin, just wonderful!! Kwan has been on the podium for 9 years.

Look at all the other ladies that have been on the world podium since Kwan won in 1996:
Lu Chen
Irina Slutskaya
Tara Lapinski
Vanessa Gursmoli
Maria Burtyskaya
Julia Soldatava
Sarah Hughes
Fumie Suguri
Elena Sokolava
Sasha Cohen
Shizuka Arakawa

WOW!! That is am impressive list of Champions, yet Michelle is still around still in the mix. I think that says ALOT about Michelle Kwan.

I'm still on the MK bandwagon, too and I have others that I enjoy immensely, too.

Between the mistake during QR and the time deduction, MK was in a pretty impossible position to win World gold. Did she give up? No - she went out and skated the best she could for the day. I think she came in 2nd on the LP.

This type of thread always seems to come up when MK comes in 2nd during SP's at Nationals and then she goes and wins the LP and gold.

Even with a flub in competition now and then, she's still probably the most consistent skater on the eligible scene - thus all the medals.

Besides, just as Ladskater will always be a Karen Magnussen fan, many of us will remain MK fans even when she decide to move into the next phase of her life. Just because I'm in an MK fan, doesn't mean that I can't be a Kristi fan, Irina fan, Sasha fan, Angela fan, etc. Don't lumps us all into the ranks of the over the top rabid fans.

Gosh, I'm still around. Was I supposed to go somewhere?! Did I miss the memo?!?! LOL

We haven't gone anywhere. We are still here and love her more now then ever. She still skated well enough to win her 9th world medal and got 6-6.0s along the way. Michelle skated a brilliant lp after the crazy person got on the ice. She came back and it was amazing. I am so proud of her and what she does and proud to be a Michelle Kwan fan.

So don't ever think we will go away, we are here and we are staying......

diamond:love:

What other CHAMPION have you heard of taking what happen & just moving on. No real crying to the media or whatever. The US federation made a protest watched the clip & moved on. I think that if it was caught eariler( at Nationals) her program whould have been corrected. Maybe whoever was timing her their watch was off. Or plain & Simple she just went over on that program. She said at 1st that she did not understand it. But, like she said it is her job just to skate. But, like her coach stated to someone that 5.1 score was retarded. A perfectly skated program (outside of the deduction then would have pushe it up to 5.2). After what she went through at two olympics. This is small stuff. For me that last lutz at the end of her program. I think that she used up some enegery skating around the rink checking the ice after the prankster. Because, she had no problem with it during the warmup. & then she pops it open & does a double. But, she made me smile & a shucks(sp) with her hand. But, was happy with her performance.

But, I agree that afer the QR & with other skating clean the gold was gone. Look what happen to S&Z. They too had an error in their SP & took the silver. Meanwhile their outskated the Gold medal winners.

As long as Michelle is skating she will have her fans from all over the world behind her.

Michelle won worlds in 96, 98, 00, 01, 03. Since compulsory figure was eliminated, only Yamaguchi and Kwan defended their title. Chen, Lipinski, Butyrskaya were all great champions but after they are gone, Kwan is still here.

She made me smile too with that hand gesture. At National she had the similar one but with her hand in a fist. At Nats it was like 'I did it!'. At Worlds it was like 'Damnd, how come I missed that lutz'.

You got that right, fsf, and welcome to Golden Skate!!:) 42

Show42, I loved your first post. I'm so proud of Michelle for rebounding to get her 9th world medal with a great free skate, but if she never won another medal again, I'd still be a fan.

If all the kwan fans are "going somewhere" let me know because I'd like to go too! For what it's worth, I like Shizuka's skating too and feel that both she and Sasha earned their World medals with some lovely performances.

Yep, how great it was so see (multiple) great programs from each of the medalists. What a great ladies' event overall. :)

Don't really know where to put this, but it's for Kwanfans ... Mathman especially. Nice pics from the Worlds banquet. Click on the photo of MK and Katie under latest news. 1st column, 4th pic down is for the Kwan fans.

Edited to add: 3 column, 4th down is for Idle;)

I agree with everyone else that said having 9 world
medals is impressive. :) Especially (like someone else
said) since she went from 6th to 3rd.
There will never be another Michelle, not for a very
long time. :)

Nice pics, tharrtell. Thanks for the link.

don't throw the Kwan dolls

How can the ISU possibly put Kwan off the podium?

SHE is still the bread and butter. I don't care what they say, she has been upheld and overmarked technically, and has so many fans because she was so humble pie eating from Nagano. She is a great competitor, the best since Kat Witt. She has had the best of luck- barely an injury. Tara had to go pro. Otherwise, she'd have clobbered Michelle. For many reasons, mostly her hip we now see she made the best of her last few years, touring with the SOI greats. Sarah with her 2 3/3's really rose to her best performance. I think she had a taste of 'winner over Michelle backlash' in her injured final year.

She is not competitive re 2006, unless the jumpers are all injured and she pulls off a really great skate. I personally don't see her in the mix in Turino. I have enjoyed so many of her programs. It will be hard to see her move on, hard to "let her go."

 First column, 3rd down. Look how long and pretty her hair is. Fourth column, third down: Garrett in paradise, LOL. Second column, 4th down: Who is that with Garrett? Beautiful hazel eyes.

About Kwan fans, etc., this was recently called to my attention. Has anyone else noticed how peaceful things are on GS after Worlds? Before we had a lot of fights going on between Michelle fans and Sasha fans. Now, all the talk is, "What do our two girls Michelle and Sasha have to do to reclaim the initiative that has been seized by the Japanese skaters?"

Bijoux, yes it's always hard to "let go" of our favorite. We will just have to bear up as best we can when she moves on.

What is the point of joining a thread that's about support for Kwan? There have/always will be plenty of posts to discuss Tara vs. Michelle, Sarah vs. Michelle, 2006, etc. What is the point of poisoning the well?

I don't think it really matters anymore, neither Tara nor Sarah stuck around to "clobber" Michelle. Would Tara and Sarah have been able to consistently bring their 3/3s to the table? Would their presentation skills have developed more so that they wouldn't have had to rely so much on their technical abilities? It is impossible to say and whatever anyone feels concerning those questions can't possibly be supported by fact. Michelle is still here and a viable podium contender at any event.....those are facts.

what's the point of a forum?

I didn't realize this was a "cheer kwan thread." Isn't that called Kwan forum where just idolatry is allowed hockeyfan? Poisoning the well? Her sucesses were also other's failure under pressure. Kwan will be missed- her own coach calls her the most consistent skater, not every compiment in the dictionary. Again, I guess the rabid fans must need to strike out. I'm a normal fan of many many skaters, her too, but thought it rediculous she should go to Turino, always assuming it's up to her alone. As I said and many before, barring the injuries of our younger skaters, she would not be competitive in 2006.

It will be sad seeing her go. I have to laugh at anyone who was blind to Sarah/Tara's artistry. They had the big package. When Nancy, Yama, Tonya and Midori Ito had triple triples and 3 axels many years ago, you'd have to admit that your personal bias for her leaves you blind to who's done what on the Ice. The person asked what happened to all the Kwan fans, tongue in cheek.

I don't think you caught that, as in where are they now. They all fade, stars and idols. Esp when just making the podium is the best you can do. She won't continue to skate- you could hear in her "can my body take it?" comments. After Nationals, she was "definitely leaning toward Turino." She won't embarass herself, she's had a long ride.

No one here mentioned Tara/Sarah thus your criticizing of blinding ppl is invalid.

That's right every one will fade. See who is last one to fade away.

Interesting tangents. Lots of us maybe haven't written all the more serious skating threads, or read or argued our points. I think that this thread shows that GS members have in general a lot of free time to debate.
Seems you are not lacking of your own free time to make a dig on Michelle whenever have a chance.

Would their presentation skills have developed more so that they wouldn't have had to rely so much on their technical abilities?

Bijoux,

I'm not certain, but I believe you might have been referring to this statement that I had written earlier. I am more than willing to be open to your thoughts and opinions, but please don't embellish on or misconstrue general statements that I have made. So that we can avoid confusion in the future concerning my thoughts on Tara and Sarah's artistry, I'll explain further. I never knocked Tara or Sarah's artistry, but I did make an assertion that their was room for improvement. Their major strength was never really the second mark. They were both excellent skaters with good presentation, but they were young and developing. Both had the potential to be wonderful artists, I just think they left too soon for that to happen fully.

Actually, Bijoux, I think that this particular thread is pretty much a "cheer Kwan" thread. Not that everyone has to do that, of course. I think that the original poster's intentions were quite clear ("It seems to me that you (Kwan fans) have been so quiet ever since MK lost..."), and that a bunch of Michelle fans (including me) responded to the challenge with our usual, yeah but we love her anyway!

Actually, though, I do agree with the main point of your first post: the ISU does know what side its bread is buttered on (the Michelle side, LOL). Most of the money to support the sport of figure skating comes from the U.S., and to casual fans in the U.S. Michelle Kwan is figure skating. This despite the comings and goings of greatly talented skaters like Tara, Sarah, etc., and despite the popularity of a few skaters from other countries such as Irina, and despite remarkable achievements in the men's, pairs and dance disciplines.

It will be interesting to see whether Sasha or some other skater can make inroads into that position in the next two years.

Mathman:)
