Honouring Barbra Ann Scott

As part of Canada's 150th year birthday celebration the CBC figure skating website has a wonderful piece with footage of Barbara Ann Scott skating and making the rounds after her triumph as Canada's first Women's World champion in 1947 and Olympic champion in 1948 in Switzerland. She was Canada's first figure skating "sweetheart" and remains that in our hearts today. A couple of generation of Canadian female figure skaters were inspired by her, I am sure. She even carried the Olympic torch in 2010 when the games were held here in Vancouver.

The footage of Barbara skating actually pretty cool. I love historical skating. I would recommend people look at the pictures too. Barbara is wearing a dashing Rose Marie wedding dress.

This is Barbra on a curious game show in the 1950s called What's My Line. She pretends to be "Mrs. Settlemeyer" from Florida, and the 4 panelists have to guess what her job is by asking yes-no questions.

An American named Bridgette Lindsey. I love this. Poor Bridgette. Even back in 1948, there was two footed jumps, tentative jumps, and falls.
