Ignoring one semester's worth of lessons at age 7 or so (neither Mom nor I can remember clearly how old I was-I do vaguely remember doing what in retrospect I know is the first basic figures) I've been skating since January, and I'll take my first USFSA dance test on Monday (Dutch Waltz and Canasta Tango) and hopefully will take Rythym Blues and pre-pre MIF in November. I actually have practiced about half of the Preliminary MIF, too, but the back edges have been keeping me back from testing any. Weirdly I seem to have had a breakthrough with them in the past couple weeks. Possibly because my MIF coach started me on back crossovers and suddenly they didnt' seem nearly as hard! I picked up back crosses my "good" way quickly, then we turned around and tried it the bad way and I nearly took us both out. It's taken me about three weeks to really get comfortable doing the back figure eights.
