I was thinking about how we can keep three spots for the ladies this year at worlds, with our team of kimmie, ashley and bebe. Last year with a team of kimmie, alissa and emily we just made it, with emily and kimmie's combined placement of 9th and 4th just making 13. if the top two add up to 13...and we get 3 spots... what would happen if all three of the ladies that were sent placed 1,2,3? I know that esp this year it is next to impossibe.... but what if. Or a better question if the three men sent this year placed first, second, third. would we get four spots the next year or is three the limit?

Even if you have 3 skaters on the podium, only the placements for the two highest finishers will be added together.

Three is the limit.

Yeah.. i should have realized that from last year, Miki and Mao finshed 1,2 at worlds and the third skater was 5th or so.... but they still only have 3 spots. Thanks.

I think there should be a special exception to that rule, only in those rare moments when the whole podium is sweeped by 1 country they should allow 4 spots. You know if a federation can sweep the podium their 4th skater is at a top level aswell.

If just one of the ladies medals, does that not qualify the country for three competitors for the next worlds? (If no one medals, then the rule of 13 is applied????)

I just mean that there were years when China had three pairs capable of sweeping the podium at 4Cs and did not have a fourth senior pair. Which would be a counterexample to the assertion that "You know if a federation can sweep the podium their 4th skater is at a top level as well."

It's not about the medal count anymore, it's about the 13 total for the top 2 from a country.

I'm not very knowledgeable about Rules except to break them, but I believe any skater who lands on the podium at Worlds allows 3 skaters from their respective countries to compete the following year if their respective Federations wants them to.

I also believe the 4th place skater at Worlds allows for 3 the following year.

Any other skaters from the top ten from the same country must total 13 to have 3skaters the following year.

If there is only one top ten skater in the mix then the Federation can send two. I am not sure of this.

Lambiel, as an example, can allow for 3 male skaters from Switzerland to compete in the next Worlds. But will Switzerland want to pay the costs?

Sara Meier, if she is top ten, can allow for 2 female skaters from Switzerland to comete in the next Worlds. Not sure, but it certainly registers as less than 13.

I believe that may have been the old way of determining the number of entrants allowed per country. Now, it's decided by adding together each country's 2 highest placements. Having skaters make the podium doesn't automatically earn 3 spots, but it certainly helps a lot.
