In need of blade advice

Hellooo,

I have recently posted about my blade problems and decided to get new blades. I am currently upgrading from coronation ace lites, the one's I've been looking into are the John Wilson Gold Seals Revolution, I'm unsure if the revolution version is worth the money tho. Phoneix blades also appeal to me, I have asked some people and they told me to also open my options to matrix supreme or Eclipse pinacle, unfortunately, Eclipse will be almost impossible to get where i live, and it'll be extremely expensive. Gold Seals appealed to me because of their design and people's claims of spins getting better with them. I am also unsure about the parabolic or the tapered version. I'm looking for long lasting edge life as well since i skate around 9 to 10 hours a week.

A Phoenix and Gold Seal and top level blades are still too advanced for your level. You are safe to stay with a JW coronation ace, or MK Pro.

Yes, I know, but i have coronation ace lites at the moment and since i have to change them i decided to go for the next level blade, instead of buying again the same blade.

Yes and the lites are not a great blade. Try the traditional Coronation Ace or switch to MK Pro. There is NO need to upgrade at this point, esp when you are just starting doubles with a two footed single axel. There are many that stay on intermediate level blades for years and until they have triples. You do not need top level blades, they are very expensive and too advanced for your level right now.

I asked my coach and she told me to get gold seals, she had them since she started skating, that's why i asked if i should get the normal or the revolution version. Also I would like a blade that is 8' Rocker. Thank you for your advice tho, also may i ask why is coronation ace lite a bad blade?

Your coach should have never had gold seals since she started skating, so that tells me alot of what I need to know.
The Rev blades aren't the be all end all and actually cause more technical issues with peoples skating than they help. The lite coro ace is too thin of a blade for intermediate level skaters, you never learn to switch and control your edges and edgework properly on them bc of their construction.
Just in case you weren't aware from being newer here. I've worn/tested just about every boot and blade out there. I'm a former elite competitor, now pro. I would not lead you wrong.

Actually, you were talking initially about wanting all products that are John Wilson. Their blades at the top level are both 8ft rockers, the intermediate blades (coro ace, etc) are 7ft rockers. MK Top of the line blades (Phantom, Gold Star are 7ft rockers). I know what I'm talking about. Also, I wasn't judging your coach, it just let me know what I was dealing with (and no that wasn't meant negative). Also, because you mentioned it, Jackson Ultima blades are split between 7ft and 8ft rockers at all levels esp top level: Matrix Nova is 7ft rocker, other 3 at that level are 8ft With their legacy blades theres an 8ft and 7ft rocker version of the blade. Honestly: Their intermediate Protege and Protege XP are 8ft blades, but the rockers are too flat IMHO and others opinions so .

Ohh, I'm sorry for the missunderstanding, In my original post i asked if i should think of other brands like Matrix or Eclipse. Yes, Jackson Ultima have a lot of blades with 7' Rocker, but they have mostly 8' Rocker. About the toe pick, I am honestly not sure, since i only had the ones in my recreational skates and the coronation ace lites, I think i would like a bigger toe pick to get higher jumps, and in between cross and straight cut I am unsure, In my coro aces i have cross cut and I am not mad about it.

If you don't like the crosscut picks in your coronation ace lites then you aren't going to like the pick on JW gold seal nor the MK Phantom or Gold Star. And the straight cut drag pick (bottom pick) on Pattern 99 is going to be way too aggressive for your skating right now it seems).

Be aware that many of the other styles you are looking at with Jackson Ultimas have a separate runner from the blade chassis and it requires a special sharpening jig to sharpen them and someone that knows how to do so or they will completely ruin the blades.

IF you are fine with cross cut picks then pick a blade that has that. Know that Gold Seals have a much higher stanchion (will make you feel like you are on your toepicks constantly til you figure out how to adjust to it), and aggressive spin rocker and the blade shape is different than others.

If you are going to get Gold Seals, just get the regular one, not rev. The revs are a pain for many things including catch foot spins, etc.

MK Gold Star or MK Phantom---yes I know they are 7ft rocker but hear me out. Based on your preferences you've stated previously in this thread: Gold Star would especially be great b/c it has the lift you want in the heel, cross cut toe picks, as well as the blade being both taped and sidehoned. the latter will help you with turns and edgework, the former will help with your spin technique.

@WednesdayMarch is a big fan of the Gold Star and can help you more with them.

I'll chime in even tough I am no expert... I am a bit above you in level and an adult with my own money.
I went from classic Coro Ace to classic Gold Seal and then to Coro Ace Lite and then back to Gold Seal.
I loved the regular Coro Ace but switched to Gold Seal too soon. It is a lot of blade with the stanchion height. I was unstable. At the time I was only on single jumps and my spins were not centered.
So skated on Coro Ace Lites for a while until they were ruined by a bad sharpening. I found them to be nice but inconvenient with the shape of the blade. Before deciding on blades I asked my coach (she said anything by JW) and this forum. I was actually leaning towards Gold Star or MK pro, but because several knowing people here said I should give Gold Seal another try, I did, and it is the most amazing blade ever.
I just rave about now. I'll never skate on anything else than Gold Seal. Spins were easy to center, it glides like nothing else on the ice, it is just beautiful. I know I don't need it skills wise, I will never jump higher than a double loop and there are people at my rink jumping double axels in Coronation aces, but it is worth it for me. And it is an easy transition from Coro Ace to Gold Seal, like literally it took me thirty minutes to get everything back and better.
