Is Irina Really A Nice Person?

Just throw the question back at yourself. Are you Irina? Do you spend time with her when she is off ice? How do YOU know that she's really sick?

Unless we have personally seen her, the ONLY evidence we have is what we see: her skating. And that's as public as can be. If she is sick off-the-ice, how should there be a difference when she is ON the ice? Does she change her heart and become a different human being when she steps on the ice? Our only evidence is her skating. Is THAT how a sick person with a VERY SERIOUS HEART PROBLEM skates?

There's so much blah, blah, blah on her supposed illness, family, behavior, etc. which are all excuses. It's all about skating. If she skates that well, why should there be all this drama about her supposedly being sick, in need of money, etc. etc. Sympathy votes? Just plain "attention"?

Yes, it's annoying when people make assumptions (such as thinking a skater is really sick simply because her agent and publicists tell people so) and are so gullible, when the evidence is facing them right in front of their faces.

Actually, according to Irina, besides loving the sport, skating actually helps her illness. Many people who want more stamina, stronger heart and lungs are told by doctors to take up skating. Tanja Szewczenko, who herself had a dream season after coming back from near-death also said that it was skating that helped her come back.

Yes, JanJam, it is possible that people who are near death may never want to skate again, but in the case of these two champions, skating was what brought them back to life.

I think that they are afraid that Irina is going to sweep their favouite into the dust.

This is already a given, a non-issue, as the Olympics are just an award-giving ceremony for her. Anyone entertaining the thought that a skater other than Irina is going to win the gold is delusional.

Do you know what the problem is in this thread? All the people that are being negative and making childish remarks are the very people that would bow down and worship one particular skater while on the other hand would cut down another skater with their tongue. If the tables were turned on them and someone started bashing their favourite, all h-ll would break lose and start crying to the moderators...

If I remember correctly, Michelle and Sasha get way more bashings ("criticisms," if you prefer that term) than Irina. People are very protective of Irina; after all, her sob stories have generated so much sympathy for her you just want to hug her. The strategy has obviously worked. Michelle and Sasha's camps haven't been that imaginative to create an "I'm dying" spin to generate pity for them from the public, so their fans can only put up with all the criticisms of their favorite skaters that come their way. Irina's in a much, much better place.

Well Phillip Hersch from Chicago newpaper received okay from Irina to check with her specialist in Moscow, look at her doctor reports, etc He was one of the first in the US to report on what her final diagnosis is, Churgg Strauss. zzzzzz .
We heard enough of how authentic this was/is....I do believe she was very ill.

However, I for one not going to completely discount JanJam's point of view.....ppl do have their doubt by reading those reports and watching how extremly well she skated after the sickness...zzzzzz

Tsk tsk tsk and naughty hooligans indeed, LOL.

Can't you guys give us poor moderators a small break for the holiday season? Now I have to go through this whole thread and delete all the posts that are in violation of Golden Skate rules (about bashing skaters and other posters, etc.)

While you are waiting to pounce on each other again after I reopen the thread, here is some reading material for you.

Please note especially the part about tact and saying the "kindest and most fitting thing."

Aaagh! Stop me before I kill again!

I started through this thread deleting everything that was off topic and constituted a personal attack on other posters, and I ended up just deleting all of today's posts in their entirety.

I will save you guys the trouble of composing your next post. Just everyone sign below:

"Hey Mathman, you no-good bum, how dare you delete my wonderful, thoughtful and fair post, and let ______'s (fill in the blank) stupid rant stand?"

MM :)

PS. How am I doing, Spirit? LOL.

What? You deleted my "sitting at home munching on a bag of Ding-Dongs" post? I was sure that was going to pass scrutiny. :)
