I've really enjoyed their skating these last two seasons but I think this move is a bit strange. They have a lot of momentum now with Igor and have risen quite quickly through the ice dance ranks, to me that means they are doing the right things. Would a move to Marina and co jeopardise all their hard work? I'm sure they have weighted up all the options.

Maybe they feel that Igor has too many couples? Does Marina has less couples?

Igor: Chock/Bates (#7 at Worlds), Isabella/Ilya (#12), Nazarova/Nikitin (#14), Lorenz/Polizoakis (#19), Min/Gamelin (#20), Kozmova/Shumski (#32) + Coomes/Buckland (who were out this season because of her injury but were top 10 last year). He also have 2 top 10 Junior teams: Carreira/Ponomarenko and Abachkina/Thauron.
Marina: Shibutani/Shibutani (#3), Muramoto/Reed (#23), Tran/Ambrulevicius (#30). Sinitsina/Katsalapov appears not to be based in Canton anymore since the end of 2016.

Euros was really good for them, by worlds they seemed pretty flat. I just think Igor has his priorities set for next season and it isn't them. Hope they have a better time of it with Marina.

I think the reason for the coaching change is to get better programs from the better choreographer for the Olympic season. While I love their sassy SD this season which to be honest, hugely relies on Isabella's charms, the bland FD is a real snooze for me. Igor is very good at making their trainees hit their levels but his choreographic ability is not a top level quality IMO. His choreography for SD, comprised of required pattern dance and elements is generally good, but as for FD....either hit or miss. His top priority students; Chock/Bates' programs this season garnered polar responses from fans. Meanwhile, Zoueva's programs got great praises encompassing from singles and dances. Teams like Tobias/Tkachenko need programs to stand out and to appeal their characters to the audience and more importantly to the judges.
they can´t get programs of Marina without move to her team? Anyway, the Shibs are with her and the last seasons they got other choreographers.

Considering how the partnership between Marina and Igor ended, they won't get programs from Marina as long as they move out of Igor. The reversed case can be applied for the skaters with Marina. The SD of the Shibutanis is choreographed by non-figure skating coaches, professional hip-hop dancers because of their hip-hop pattern.

Fix you is by Peter T., no Marina, and this year in their FD (Evolution) Marina was only colaborator and the exhibition was by Lambiel and they got another one by J. Buttle. This olympic season they already went with Lambiel, and considering that they were one week with him, probably they were preparing the FD.

You're missing my point. It is puzzling if you had not known anything about the sour relationship between Igor and Marina as you seem to be as a long-time ice dance fan. I haven't said that the siblings have not received programs from other choreographers. They might think they needed help from professional dancers outside of the figure skating world when it comes to the SD hip-hop pattern this season. Besides, Peter Tchernyshev, a former US ice dancer from Russia is not a coach and the other choreographers are also not ice dancing coaches. Have you ever heard of any news on the three choreographers you mentioned having built an uncomfortable relationship with Marina before like the one between Marina and Igor? Not that I have heard of.
Anyway, I don't know whether the shift can bring out better results for Isabella and Ilia or not yet until I see the actual outcome. It could be risky for the Olympic season, but I just hope for the best.

I understood your first point. But with your comment about the hip hop I thought that you were implying that the Shibs have not problem with Marina´s programs and that the hip hop was an isolated thing. It is beyond of me that someone decide move to Marina because her choreographies.

I could be mistaken but I think Marina rarely if ever does choreo for dance teams not in her group.
She does currently have far fewer teams than Igor.
I'm one of the people who think this move is rather bizarre, but they know more about their situation and what they want than we ever could, I assume whatever their reasons for switching are they've given them some thought.

My opinion is just a speculation for the coaching change. After Papadakis and Cizeron's success at 2015 Worlds, many dancing teams started following the trend of the French's subtle and fluid style in choreography. The Montreal team got crowded with a lot of students. So, choreography does matter a lot especially in the dance field. Some may say dancers would seek for more attention from their coach or something else that they haven't been satisfied with the previous coaches.
