Right or wrong, the competition in Sochi just reiterated the fact that in order to be a fan of this sport is to accept that judging is politically driven/motivated. As it stands, I can't do this anymore... I can't continue to poor my efforts into supporting skaters who I know may never achieve their dreams because of opaque judging.
It was always thus. At least since I started watching skating - 1968. Used to be even more blatant back in the "eastern bloc" days when we knew what judges gave what scores. If you don't have tolerance for a certain amount of this you can't be a fan or a skater.
Personally, I am considering giving it a rest because I don't enjoy skating as much under CoP for a variety of reasons. None of them having to do with the honesty of the judging. I haven't decided yet. Worlds in Boston may be my last attended event due to the price/enjoyment ratio, but again, I hope to be convinced otherwise. I have so loved going to events in the past that I hate to give that up.

I kept asking myself why I continue to watch but I finally found my reason: I love the sport. I hate the bias/politicking/lowballing/over-scoring/subjectiveness of it but that's just the way it is. I enjoy the skating, the performances, the moments...that's why I continue to watch. The scoring will continue to puzzle me and piss me off...I've just learned to take it all in stride.
