Hi guys! I wanna start skating, but I don’t have too much money to spend, so I found some Jackson Mystiques Size 10 with discount. I usually usually wear a 10.5 in street shoes and I thought it would be ok, but now I think they are a little too big. I wanna size down, but now I’m not sure if I should get 9 or 9.5, because when I measure my (bare) foot it’s exactly exactly the size of the 9 (I measured 26 cm which converted is 10 1/4 inches). But now I don’t know if they would be a little too small or not, especially if I will also wear socks, even if they only add a little. I also don’t have any skate shops near me and don’t have the opportunity to go far to get a pro fitting. I also don’t want to spend too much because it’s just gonna be a hobby and not professional. What do you guys think is best?

Hi :wave2:

Sorry to be a bit discouraging, but skating is a sport where you can be seriously injured when wearing the wrong equipment. Different boot brands are intended for different shaped feet, and fit much more snugly than street shoes, particularly in the heel. Your feet should not be able to shift or wiggle at all. Jackson may or may not be the right shape for your particular feet. Buying online is never a good idea, particularly because you won't be able to return the skates you saw once they've been worn. Skating is a very expensive sport, even at the hobby level.

What is your age, height and weight? What shape is the line of your toes, Egyptian?Roman?Greek? (Those have nothing to do with your ancestry, they're just names given to the slant or otherwise of your toes. You can Google to find descriptions with diagrams.) Do you have high, medium, or low arches? Knowing that, we can advise which brands will fit you best. It may be Jackson, but could be any of many other brands.

It's impossible to measure your own feet accurately either sitting or standing. You need someone else to do it for you, and not just the length and width, the circumference at various points as well. That's why skaters use professional fitters at skate shops. If it's impossible for you to get to a skate shop, there are shops that do virtual fitting and can at least advise you as to the brand of boot best suited for your foot. Where do you live, and someone may be able to steer you to the nearest helpful fitter? Good luck!

Hi, I think Greek/roman feet. Something in between I guess. I’m 19, 5.10 and 135 pounds. Right now I’m in Atlanta.
I liked them but I just think they are too big from the length. But let me know what you think!

You'll definitely need a smaller size boot than your street shoes. You wouldn't know until you tried them on wearing the socks you plan to skate in, so they could need to be a half or a full size smaller than street shoes. For instance, I'm a lot smaller than you, but I wear size 4 in women's shoes and either size 3 or 3.5 skate boots depending on the brand. I have Egyptian feet with high arches and wear Risport, Riedell or Graf skate boots.

Risport or Jackson for you, Risport would be the better choice. A Jackson Mystique is not going to be stiff enough for your weight. It will break and you will get injured. Risport Electra could work, as could Jackson Freestyle.

There are fitters in Atlanta that you can go to. Try Atlanta Ice House in Marietta, GA.
