Japanese names

So there I was, watching the FD from Abu Dhabi and I hit pause and about 6 tiles appeared at the bottom. One was Dreams on Ice 2025. So I clicked on it and it was a Japan show where about 30 Japanese skaters did their short programs for this year. It was cool but one of the good side effects was I could hear a Japanese person say Japanese names of my fav skaters, so I could clear up pronunciation issues. Then I made a cheat sheet with the phonetics. Then I went to the web. It says, for instance,

• Mone (百音):
  • MOH: The "mo" is pronounced like the "mo" in "more".
  • neh: The "ne" is pronounced like the "ne" in "net".

But that is not what I HEAR. I have hearing issues.
I hear Moe-nay....I played it back and forth 3 times....
Probably explains why I am a terrible speller.
